GlossyBox April 2020 Review

GlossyBox includes an info booklet that tells you about each included item, their value, and a tip on how to use.

GlossyBox normally sends some promotional coupons as well. This month included two vouchers for HelloFresh and Laithwaites Wines.

Avant Gentle Rose Beautifying Face Exfoliant, 1.69 oz. - Retail Value $114.00

I am a little surprised at the price of this exfoliant but I do really like it. The physical exfoliation comes in the form of tiny scrubbies (though I can't be sure what they are made of) that are supremely gentle and get to work without irritating my skin. In addition to clearing away any dull skin, the formula aims to help reduce wrinkles in aging skin and reduce redness. Though I don't have any wrinkles I'm worried about yet, redness can be an issue for my skin especially on my chin. My face feels fantastic after using this in the shower after cleansing and it claims to help the rest of my skincare regimen to penetrate 20% better. I'm interested to see differences this can make long-term.

Cirem HCR 3-IN-1 Facial Sheet Mask - Retail Value $20.00

The Cirem sheet mask I received is different than the Vitamasque mask in the info booklet but that happens sometimes and it has a much higher retail value. I will say that this mask has, by far, the most serum I have ever seen in a pack. It was almost bulky, it had so much extra serum in it. I could create a whole second mask if I had the cloth. It is also one of the most intense as far as fit since it comes with ear holes and a flap that goes under the chin and also comes back up to fasten around the ears. The design of the mask holds it tightly against my face which I love, but at the same time doesn't allow much room for sizing and gets serum on my ears and hair. I have a pretty small head and the mask felt so snug that I could imagine it not fitting a lot of people. It was also quite tight against the bottom of my eyes, causing them to water and I head to free them with some slits on the corners of each eye. In addition to the fit of the mask, it has a very strong floral smell to it that I am not a big fan of. I left it on for 15 of the suggested 15-30 minutes and was happy to remove it since the fragrance starting to give me a headache. It does contain all sorts of great skin ingredients though like retinol, vitamin C, and hyaluronic acid in a quite syrupy serum. Once removed, I massaged the serum into my face and neck and even after 10 minutes, my face felt like it had a pretty heavy film on it. My skin was looking quite plump but the whole experience of this mask wasn't for me. The fragrance was way too strong and the sizing of the mask seemed too fixed to work for most people in one way or another.

Nails Inc Nail Polish in Blossom Kisses, 0.47 fl oz. - Listed Retail Value $11.00

I am slowly getting back into nail polish after years of getting them done at the salon since I previously had acrylics. This pretty pink color is perfect for spring, even if my nails are going through very hard times right now. My favorite part of this polish is that the brush is wide, plush, and rounded so it's very easy to use and offers a wonderful application. Two coats are all this color needs to form an opaque solid paint job.

COLAB Dry Shampoo Original, 6.7 fl oz. - Retail Value $5.49

I wash my hair every day which means if I skip a day, my hair immediately turns into an oil slick. Since I'm working from home right now and not doing a whole lot, that's been happening more often. I still have daily video calls with the MSA team which means dry shampoo is my friend. COLAB's take on it has a really nice sweet floral scent that I really like. There's no white powder left behind on my dirty blonde locks either. This full-size can will last me a long time since my hair isn't super thick and doesn't require too much with each use.

Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb Nectar, 0.24 oz. – Estimated Value $16.94 (Buy a 1.7 oz. for $120.00)

Flowerbomb is quite popular from what I know and happens to be one of Megan's favorite fragrances. The soft powdery floral scent is definitely more up her alley than mine so I'll be gifting it to her when I can. As far as florals go, this is still a wonderful scent. The little bottle is so pretty and gives it much more of a special feeling than just a rollerball or sample vial. It's actually a nice size that will last some time.

Bonus Item! Inked by Dani Temporary Tattoos - Listed Value $12.99

Being someone with many of my own real tattoos, temporary ones have mostly lost their luster. I love the detailed delicate designs of these though and it will be fun to put them in places I wouldn't ever get tattooed, like my face! Why not see what it'd look like, right? Each flower design is different and none of them is over an inch and a half in size, so they'll be discreet.

Verdict: GlossyBox really delivered a nice theme with their Blossom box. Everything included easily relates to springtime and flowers with scent and sight. I'll get the most use out fo the exfoliant and dry shampoo but I am excited to gift the fragrance to Megan next time I see her. The mask was not my scene at all, but I have to admit that my skin looked great after using it. The temporary tattoos are cute but I'll most likely gift them as well. This box has quite a high-value thanks to the exfoliant and mask with a total of $180.42.

Temporary tattoos with more adult (rather than childish) designs on them seem like a fun idea. I recently got into tattoos and have two of my own now, but am looking to get more. A sheet of temporary tattoos seem fun for finding my next placement haha

Flowerbomb Nectar is not the same perfume as Flowerbomb, it’s a perfume in the same line. It’s supposedly a bit more smokey and exotic, with gunpowder and orange notes in it.

I subscribed in April just for the Viktor and rolf perfume, instead of the April box, GLOSSYBOX sent me the contents of the January 2020 box !!! 😡😡😡😡😡 I definitely won’t make the mistake of paying for this junk subscription again.

I ordered this box the first few days of April, got a message that they were delayed in shipping around the 9th. I canceled a few days later since when I signed up their was a pop-up box reminding me that to not be charged for May I needed to cancel by the 15th. I then waited and waited for shipping info. After another 10 days I contacted them. Well because I canceled the box I paid for was canceled too! That is a terrible business practice! Don’t make customers pay for more boxes to get what they want. Anyway they then issued a refund. I don’t think they would have if I had not contacted them. I had loved Glossy in the past, but I will never purchase from them again after this month’s experience.

Oh dear, I cancelled too, and haven’t got my box yet. I wonder if they did that to me, too!

I would contact them ASAP! They did not fulfill a lot of people’s orders it looks like.

I stuck my “tattoos” in my craft room. They are just rub ons, after all. Will probably use them for card making!

My April box hasn’t moved since April 25th. I’m pretty sure DHL lost it. I sent GB a message through the website, but I have not received a response. This is the 1st GB that I have been looking forward to in a long time. I hope that I eventually get the box.

Out of my three months with Glossy this is the only box that I was truly excited about. If all months were like this one I would have continued my subscription!

What are the microbeads compromised of? They are absolutely horrendous for the environment.

Reply ButtonReply

Marne Orenich

Hi J- Very sorry for my incorrect usage of the word “microbeads”. Jackie Cupcake is right, I just meant they have little scrubbing particles. I’ll definitely be updating the review to reflect that! Thanks for calling it out!

Reply ButtonReply

Mimosa

Hi J, I totally agree that microbeads are terrible for the environment. Judging from the Avant scrub’s ingredients list, it looks like it’s the Acrylates Copolymer that’s responsible for the microbeads. It sucks, because environmentally-minded beauty box subscribers are just sent this stuff with an absence of informed consent, and what are they supposed to do with this insanely-priced ‘hero’ item? If they care about the environment, do they just dispose of it? Use it and feel guilty? It puts subscribers in a pretty crappy position. I checked the ingredients list against the info on beatthemicrobead dot org, so I’m pretty sure that the Acrylates Copolymer that’s the culprit here.

JackieCupcake

I had the same thought, but looking at the product they don’t have anything listed that looks like a microbeads in the ingredient. I think she was just saying they have small scrubbing particles.

When I opened my box this month and noticed I did not get a mask, I was sorely disappointed. I was really hoping to get the Citem mask. I love the Cirem serum, and the mask has the serum in it. I have milked that glorious liquid right into the serum pump I already own. My disappoint soon turned to Joy when I realized what they replaced the mask with! Leighton Denny Miracle Mist! I received this speed drying spray for nail polish in another box and I absolutely loved it. Even before the lockdown I was saving money by doing my own manicures, but sitting still while my polish dries has always been a challenge for me. This spray really lives up to its name oh, it is a miracle. This is probably the best curated box that I have ever gotten from glossybox.

Hi Badseedgirl – I hope you see this. I got the Cirem mask, and from what Marne has described, it’s not the mask for me. So I’d like to send mine to you, as a little “pay it forward” from me. Please let me know how to reach you so I can get your mailing address.

Sherri- this made me smile! That’s why I love this little community. On the Swap, a lovely woman once sent me a full size product she happened to have that she saw on my want list with our swap…. just because. 🙂

I liked the box, except the tattoos…I think a lady like myself at 58 should not want or need tattoos. I think they just put them in because….this is something you give a kid to play with..

I am 54. I would have liked the tattoos. Never had the nerve to get a real one. I would have applied one on my inner wrist and top of my foot when the sandal sesson fully kicks in. Age is just a number. I am still in my early 20s inside. Might search for these on ebay.

Great review, thanks Marne. I got the same mask and am now thinking I need to pass it along rather than use it myself. I was looking forward to trying it after another MSA follower mentioned to me that the serum from this line is amazing, but I have a wide face so I suspect that the mask won’t fit me properly. I also I can’t handle strong scents; it’s an instant headache for me. Plus, I hate when my face feels super tacky or like there’s still a film on it after a sheet mask. So 3 strikes, you’re out for me, lol. I’m so glad to know all of this upfront so I can pass the mask along to someone who would appreciate.

I love polishes with those wide brushes. My nails are a mess too after removing dip powder on my own. I’m currently using Olive & June to mask the damage and I highly recommend it!

HOW MUCH MORE INFORMATION IS NEEDED. ? THEY MESSED UP !
WE’LL SEE IF THEY MAKE IT RIGHT…

I was missing the mask. Didn’t even realize it till I read the review. I’ll contact them, but I’m not holding my breath.

I did not even get the April box,I have been with them since they started and they gave my box to a new subscriber…..A lot of their loyal customers got screwed over for the April box, because they got so many new Subscribers they ran out of products, and gave all of their new subscribers boxes first…..They take my money out of my account on the 2nd of each month, but yet they could not send me my box first…..I sent them at least 5 emails complaining about this, and all they said they could do was give me my money back for the April box…..I think this is unfair and complete bullcrap,if I did not like their box so much I would cancel,if it happens again I will cancel….They need to put their loyal customers first at all times, and then if they have extra boxes give them to the new subscribers.

Coco

Wow. I wanted the April box as a new subscriber, but it sold out before I signed up. But I agree it’s OUTRAGEOUS that all current members didn’t receive the April box first, before any new subscribers. They knew how many members they had, and should’ve reserved that number of April boxes from the get-go, with the remaining boxes available for new subscribers. It’s good to know that’s how GB treats their members. No thanks!!!

VA

Good luck, I was an annual subscriber and was sent a cancellation notice for the April box due to “high demand.” I had to reach out to them four times before I received the notice due to their vague answers.
