BarkBox is a reader-favorite monthly subscription box for dogs.

BarkBox customizes your box to your dog’s size. For reference, this review is for the medium size, which is recommended for dogs 20-50 lbs. We recently changed the size because Tucker, our Standard Poodle, is the most playful pup in the house when it comes to toys.

FYI: Two of my dogs are quite old! Piper (the minpin) has to eat soft food and has trouble with hard treats. Charlie is a pug, and a glutton who will eat LITERALLY anything. They both still really enjoy toys, though it has been years since either of them managed to destroy anything.

If you have a younger pup or just one who needs toys of the rough and tumble variety, I highly recommend trying the Super Chewer subscription (read our reviews to learn more!).

My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

April 2020 BarkBox "Night at the Squeakeasy" Review

The details behind our items this month were printed inside, on the box lining.

The April box included 2 toys, 2 bags of treats, and a chew - this is close to what you can expect with your monthly subscription, though it does vary for everyone once in a while.

A lot of these items are marked as 'Sold Out' on the BarkBox app - but they have a little 'As Seen In BarkBox' section of the BarkShop where you can grab items featured in monthly themes.

Included this month was a little card about the upcoming May Scooby Doo box and how you can send one to a friend!

We took a little trip out to see my in-laws this last weekend (we all wore masks and played it safe!) and I decided to take the BarkBox along since they have 3 little dogs who love to chew. While two were totally camera shy, I did manage to capture their silver Miniature Pinscher, Lily, in some shots. She will be helping Tucker out with this review. 🙂

These Marvelous Duck Cuts Treats, 4.5 oz

These treats were larger, and in a rectangular strip style. Made of duck and presumably super-tasty, all the little dogs (and the big one too) were beside themselves to try these.

Duck Soup Treats, 4.5 oz - Retail Value $5.00

These treats were also duck flavored, and very similar in shape and hardness. I wish there has been a bag of shorter treats for Piper and Charlie to enjoy, but luckily we have loads of treats from previous boxes that will work. These were another big hit with the dog herd.

Bub the Bouncer Toy - Retail Value $10.00

I am cracking up at this speakeasy theme. This aggressive-looking fellow presumably stands by the door to make sure that order is maintained and the booze is kept safe! He is filled with a large squeaker and some crinkle.

Ever the gentleman, Tucker let Lily choose her preferred toy first. She is a tough little thing so I imagine this bouncer toy spoke to her.

She also isn't used to having her photo taken and was confused as to why I was in her face as she played.

She sure is cute though!

Wry Whisky Toy

Whisky on the rocks makes for a fun toy! The outer "cup" is filled with crinkle and the ice cube inside has a big squeaker, making this very much a two-in-one sort of toy.

Tucker preferred the crinkle filled cup part, especially after one of the smaller dogs ran outside with the ice cube and promptly hid it. RIP ice cube.

Tucker didn't care. This boy is full of joy.

Thinkers Chew

Tucker has grown quite accustomed to his secret chew treats. He spends all day with me in my WFH office and when Piper and Charlie are napping I sneak these chews to him. He loves them!

Verdict: BarkBox was super clever and cute this month. I loved the speakeasy theme and creative toys. It was really fun to take this out to see Will's parents and share with their pups, even if they were confused by having my camera in their faces. I am super excited for the Scooby-Doo-themed box next month! I loved that show as a kid and I can only imagine how creatively the BarkBox team tackles such a classic cartoon!

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.
