Birchbox's Limited Edition Clean Beauty 2.0 Box Review

The info card inside talks about how hard it is to navigate the "clean" beauty space and that they've evaluated "potentially harmful" additives and vetted ingredients lists to give customers easy to understand framework. The other side of the card gives a brief description of each of the 11 (!) items included in the box.

FIG+YARROW Night Nutrient Booster Serum, FULL SIZE 1 oz. - Retail Value $34.00

I have been really enjoying this creamy opaque serum from FIG+YARROW. After cleaning, I take a couple of pumps to my fingertips to then smooth over my face and neck. The scent here is barely detectable and very non-threatening, like an unscented moisturizer. Once it's on my skin it has a comforting rich feel to it that is quickly absorbed and leaves a soft smooth surface behind. Using featured ingredients hematite (a retinol alternative), smithsonite, and calendula flower, this serum regenerates and repairs skin while it fights bacteria that cause acne.

OSEA Ocean Cleanser,  FULL SIZE 5 oz. - Retail Value $48.00

Receiving a full-size cleanser is something I can really get behind, especially when it's from OSEA. Made with algae extract, cypress seed oil, jojoba seed oil, juniper fruit oil, and lactic acid, this gel cleanser aims to balance any skin type, be it combo, oily, or dry. It's ultra-gentle on my skin and I love that the botanical oils used really perk up senses (which is great for morning cleansing) with a citrus-forward scent. Some cleansers strip the skin of its natural oils, but this one keeps mine feeling hydrated and well-balanced so that it's not screaming for moisture after use. There is very little to no foam while massaging this into my face, but it still gives me a clean feeling.

Pai Rosehip BioRegenerate Oil, 0.34 oz. - Estimated Value $14.96 (Buy a full-size 1 oz. for $44.00)

I was lucky enough to get an entire box dedicated to this brand, Pai, just a few months ago from another subscription. However, I didn't receive this facial oil so it's a nice treat! The cute little deluxe sample bottle comes with its own cute little dropper that I can use to dole out 2-3 drops onto my fingertips to then spread onto my hands and pat onto my face. In addition to using on its own, it can also be added to any moisturizer to give it a little boost of antioxidants. The scent comes from its natural seed oil ingredients and doesn't have anything added for fragrance.

Philip Kingsley Elasticizer Deep Conditioning Treatment, 1.35 oz. - Estimated Value $42.74 (Buy a full-size 3.38 oz. for $107.00)

Hair products can be tough for me to really love. I have very fine hair and since I only get it cut once or twice a year normally, I always have split ends and flyaways. This conditioning treatment is similar to Olaplex, which I've used in the past in the order that it is to be used. Before even shampooing, this product is to be put on wet hair, covered with a shower cap, and left in for 10-20 minutes. The logistics of this are a little much for me since I like to take 10-minute showers and be done. The thought of wetting my hair awkwardly in the tub, then wrapping my hair in plastic wrap (since I don't own a shower cap) and just hanging out for 20 minutes before a shower isn't conducive to my lifestyle. So I'll be honest- I put this onto my wet hair in the shower and left it on for as long as I had the patience for before rinsing and continuing with my normal hair routine. My hair felt nice after this, but I honestly didn't really see a major difference. I'm just not a hair product aficionado, I guess!

French Girl Rose Lip Polish, FULL SIZE 1 oz. - Retail Value $18.00

As a massive lip polish fan, I was tickled to get such a large full-size jar of this rose polish from the popular brand French Girl! I went down a serious beauty YouTube hole last night and happened upon a video of Kourtney Kardashian's skincare routine which happened to include this as well. So if you're someone who likes a celebrity endorsement, there ya go (although I realize that a Kardashian endorsement may do more harm than good for some). I find this polish to have a great balance of oil and grit, which can be surprisingly tricky in my experience. Sugar is used here as the physical exfoliant while mint and rose geranium essential oils give a little plump action (in addition to smelling lovely). Cocoa and shea butter along with coconut oil give much-needed moisture to my lips so they don't dry out from scrubbing and beet powder lends its beautiful color. I love everything about this lip scrub and I know this size will provide me a long life of exfoliation before I have to buy another.

Type:A Deodorant in The Achiever, FULL SIZE 2.82 oz. - Retail Value $9.99

I am kind of obsessed with this deodorant. I've never used one this soft that comes from a tube but after wearing it for a few days, I began to love it and now have been using it daily for quite some time! The Ocean Mist scent smells amazing and I'm surprised at how much I love a cream deodorant! The tube looks a lot like toothpaste, but it comes out through three slits in the applicator end that is easily smoothed onto my armpits with no mess at all. While some solid natural deodorants can crumble a little when applied, Type:A goes on smooth as silk! I now smell great and find this formula to be really gentle with no irritation at all. If I ever run out of natural deodorants on hand (fat chance), this will be the one I go to reorder.

Kosås Color & Light Palette, Creme in Velvet Melon, FULL SIZE - Retail Value $34.00

Kosås is one of those aspirational brands for me. Every time I see a product of theirs (this gloss, hello?! I don't even like gloss!) there is a little flutter of excitement in my chest. This creme blush and highlighter palette brings me so much joy not just because of its looks but because I also happen to love cream makeup. The pans in this compact hold two of my favorite basic makeup products to get a subtle "no makeup" look. The blush on the left is a beautiful peach color that is pigmented and easily blendable and buildable. Cream blush gives me that dewy look I crave, especially in sunnier months. The highlighter on the right has a gorgeous champagne hue to it that is the perfect amount of shimmer that I can pat on my cheekbones and blend out with ease. The generously sized mirror in the lid allows for application on the go. Both products look natural and elegant which is the epitome of clean beauty.

AfterSpa Mini Jade Facial Roller - Retail Value $8.00

At first, I thought "not another jade roller!" but then realized that this mini version will come in handy for the day we all get to travel again! Measuring 3.5 inches tip to toe, and a little over 3/4ths of a roller width, this cute little roller can get into the smaller places like the corners of my nose for lymph drainage. It can be popped in the fridge for a more cooling experience, or run under warm water if you want it closer to your body temperature. It's basically the size of the smaller end of any double-ended jade roller, but with a nicely carved jade handle to boot. Don't forget to wash your roller before and after each use and use a serum to really get that spa feeling. Check out this older post about jade rollers if you want more tips (or just some laughs).

Face Halo The Modern Makeup Remover, FULL SIZE 3-pack - Retail Value $22.00

Face Halo is a green way to remove makeup since it's a reusable pad made of special fiber to grab all the pigment and dirt from your face, leaving nothing to throw away. These round pads are similar to the idea of the Makeup Eraser, but with a much thicker knap that (I think) looks a lot nicer and feels sturdier. I received a pack of these a couple of years ago in a box and still am using them today. They're double-sided and ready to get even the heaviest makeup off after just adding water. I usually wash these with my towels and although they're white and can get stained, they still come out clean and ready to use again. A great alternative to disposable cleansing wipes!

Derma E Hydrating Night Cream, FULL SIZE 2 oz. - Retail Value $29.50

I am such a Derma E fan girl. Every time I receive one of their products, I am so impressed with how it performs and this night cream is no exception. Again with the full-size product, this jar has two ounces and is sure to last a long time. Only a small amount is needed for me to cover my face and neck in a thin later of this thirst-quenching cream. It has a light scent I really like that's... fruity, perhaps? It's fresh and luscious! Ingredient hyaluronic acid hydrates while green tea battles free radicals, which delivers a nice 1-2 punch while I'm sleeping. I wake up with plump dewy skin that I want to touch... but I won't.

ILIA Beauty Color Block High Impact Lipstick in Rosette, FULL SIZE - Retail Value $28.00

Clean makeup is really gaining more and more popularity every day. That makes me happy! ILIA is a brand that seems to be one of the more popular ones and is carried at large trusted beauty retailers like Sephora, The Detox Market, and Credo. I'm familiar with the brand through other subscription boxes as well as just having an interest in clean beauty. Getting full-size lipsticks are always a huge win for me even though I still appreciate minis. There is always the risk of getting a color that isn't suited for me, but I think most boxes send pretty mauves like this that tend to look good on many people. This rich rose color is just what I love, and it has a super creamy formula. It feels hydrating on and the pigment is more like a better version of my natural lip color. Because it's so creamy, there is some transfer, but there's still plenty left on my lips.

Here is the blush, highlighter, and lipstick swatched on my hand.

Verdict: I am overjoyed by the Birchbox Limited Edition: Clean Beauty 2.0 Box. Almost every product is a win for me, and I look forward to more of these kits since last year's Clean Beauty Box was so great as well and they include so many FULL-SIZE products! It's hard for me to pick favorites from this box but the cleanser, Kosås palette, lip scrub, deodorant, and night cream are all on the top of my list. The hair treatment was the only thing I didn't really care much about, but I'm sure there is someone out there it'll do wonders for. My estimated total value for this box is actually higher than they have listed at $289.19. For a cost of just $65, I'd say it's a great deal for any (clean) beauty lover.

Great review! It’s very tempting, but I have been splurging a lot lately and am trying to resist. Even though it’s a fantastic deal. Ahhhh!

I really want this box! When I click on where it says “don’t forget your free mystery sample kit”, the page says that I “Must have lost my way”??? Anyone have words of wisdom?

they ran out of the mystery sample. birchbox usually has a free 2-piece sample with $35+ purchase, but it’s out of stock currently. you can still add a freebie with $50+ purchase, since this box is over $50. just click on “gift with purchase,” and pick your gift.

I had the same issue, I ended up just getting a grooming free mystery sample kit for the bf instead. Bummer the regular one wasn’t working! Use “first15” for 15% off, though!

aaaaand… I bought it. I’ve been thinking about it for a while and recently tried the Kosas tinted face oil and love it. This is an awesome deal if you’re interested in even 3 of the full size items. use First15 for some $ off. Also, add a free sample to it by searching “free” or “mystery”.

Almost bought this, but decided to stay strong and wait. I could of had it for $60
total including tax with FIRST15 discount. I hope there is a bigger discount in the future. Probably if it was 20% off, I would go for it. Also had my eye on another LE box from birchbox. Maybe there will be mothers day sale
