The Detox Box Review - February 2020

The Detox Box
3.8 overall rating

The Detox Box is a green beauty subscription box from The Detox Market that costs $55/month. You'll usually receive 2-3 products (although 5 this month) from a featured brand each month that follow their strict ingredient standards and help you discover non-toxic ways to continue your beauty routine. What I love about this subscription is that I can try popular and undiscovered brands alike at a really good value!

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

The Detox Box February 2020 Review feat. Pai Skincare

In each Detox Box, you'll receive two cards with your products. One introduces the featured brand (Pai Skincare) and has a short Q+A with the founder, Sarah Brown. The other card details five featured products from their various lines with an emphasis on sensitive skin.

Pai Skincare Light Work Rosehip Cleansing Oil, 0.95 oz. - Estimated Value $10.86 (Buy a full-size 4.9 oz. for $56.00)

Further down the skincare rabbit hole, I find myself really starting to enjoy oil cleansers. A couple of years ago I'd never have said that. Oil cleansers like this one from Pai are your first line of cleansing for makeup, dirt, and unwanted oils. It sounds crazy to put oil on your face to cleanse it, but trust me, this will melt away a lot of tough grime without being too harsh on your skin like a makeup wipe can be. Only a small amount is needed, so this sample will go a long way.

Pai Skincare Camellia & Rose Gentle Hydrating Cleanser, 30 mL - Estimated Value $10.50 (Buy a full-size 200 mL for $70.00)

Although it's a cleanser, this product is so gentle and hydrating that it feels like a moisturizer. Super creamy and soft, this has got to be one of the most gentle cleansers I've tried and would be great for ultra-sensitive skin. The formula contains omega 3 & vitamins A, B & E with the use of camellia oil while rose damask oil retains moisture in the skin. While I don't get that "squeaky clean" feeling (which can actually not be great for your skin) this makes my skin feel equal parts clean and hydrated before jumping into the rest of my routine.

Pai Skincare Dual Effect Sensitive Skin Cleansing Cloth - Estimated Value $6.67 (Buy a 3-pack for $20.00)

This looks like it comes with the cleanser when you buy the full size, but Detox Box has ensured we got it with the smaller size as well. I just love getting nice facial cloths like this in a box for some reason. I think it's because it's an item I can reuse for a long time that won't run out like products do. I also never buy nice cloths to wash my face with either, so it's a treat. My favorite thing about this cleansing cloth is how incredibly soft it is even after using and drying again. When I use my washcloth for my body, after drying it's kind of stiff until wet again, but this one stays soft and flexible. It also has two different textures, one on either side. The smooth side can be used to wipe away cleanser while the other side (although still gentle) can gently exfoliate. Oh- it even has a loop at one corner that allows me to properly hang it in my shower!

Pai Skincare Kukui & Jojoba Skin Brightening Exfoliator, 2.5 oz. - Retail Value $48.00

Oooh, this is a fun exfoliator with little kukui and jojoba beads to gently physically scrub away dull dead skin after cleansing. As with all exfoliants, you should only use this about 3 times a week and not overdo it, especially with sensitive skin. This isn't harsh by any means and feels quite gentle even though you are indeed exfoliating which is an essential step to any skincare routine. The bottle has a somewhat unique dispenser at the bottom that allows you to simply twist open and squeeze out a small amount to use without having to unscrew a whole cap. The scent here is uplifting but subtle and my face feels really fresh after use.

Pai Skincare Chamomile & Rosehip Calming Day Cream, 1.7 oz. - Retail Value $60.00

The chamomile and rose are back to calm and soften the skin in this day cream after cleansing and exfoliating. Here, we received a full size in a frosted glass bottle that looks pretty on the bathroom shelf. Not only does this make my skin feel supple and soft, but it also calms redness and soothe any irritation from daily stressors. This day cream has a rich thickness to it that slowly seeps into my skin to really make it look and feel plump and hydrated. The chamomile not only calms the skin but also my mind with its delicate scent that really sets a nice tone. Once again, this would be a brilliant choice for someone with sensitive skin.

Verdict: This month's Detox Box was unexpected due to the number of items I received. What a pleasant surprise that I got five items (including two full sizes and a cloth) instead of the usual two or three total. I feel like I got to know the Pai Skincare line a lot better and really enjoyed everything! I think the exfoliator and cleansing cloth are my personal favorites but I'm going to pass this whole set over to Emily since she has very delicate sensitive skin that I think these would all be perfect for her. What a nice discovery! I estimate this $55 box to be worth a retail of $136.03.

I really liked the day cream. My sensitive/ combo skin absorbs it well, and I have been reaching for it every morning. The oil cleaner is very nice too. A great box overall.
