Oriental Saragli

I am loving this syrupy phyllo dough pastry! It is packed with almonds and walnuts and is so sticky and delicious. The phyllo dough was perfectly flaky and tasty. While I’ve had other baklava from previous boxes, I have to say this one is my favorite!

Kritsinaki Pesto Basil

These little breadsticks are so cute and delicious. I love the crunchiness and flavoring of these basil pesto breadsticks. They really pair nicely with a glass of wine. It makes me want to track down more!

Serenata Finger

I am obsessed with wafers and chocolate, so this was a definite win for me! This milk chocolate coated wafer with cocoa cream filling is so rich and tasty! My kids were basically attacking me for it. Not only was it delicious, but look how pretty it is too! That extra chocolate drizzle really took it to the next level!

Tottis Chips Oregano

Next up is this nice sized bag of oregano flavored potato chips. These chips may look identical to Lay’s sour cream and onion chips, but instead of having an onion flavor, they have a deliciously salty and deep oregano flavor. I found them to be quite addicting, and couldn’t keep my hand out of the bag!

Moustokoulouro

My kids were so excited to see this item in the box. My 4-year-old is obsessed with grapes, and cookies, and when he saw the picture of the grape ON the cookie package he could hardly contain himself… that is until he tasted it. The description of this item reads “soft wheat cookies with grape must flavor.” What is must flavor you ask? It’s the thick mixture containing the freshly pressed grape juice, skins, seeds, and stems of the grape. While I appreciate the use of the “must” in these cookies rather than discarding it, I just didn’t care for the flavor. It also was very dry and crumbly, but if you are a mega wine lover, maybe you’ll enjoy this!

Serenata Triplo Hazelnut

Ekkk! Milk chocolate + hazelnuts + wafers + cream filling = LOVE!!! Seriously this chocolate bar is amazing. It honestly tastes a little like a Ferrero Rocher but with more cream filling and in a bigger bar! It literally just melts in your mouth. I need more of these in my life!

Bruschettini Pizza

Check out this nice bag of bread crisps! These bruschetta bites are flavored with cheese, tomato, and basil for a light taste of pizza. I enjoyed these all by themselves, but might just have to add them to my tomato soup for dinner tomorrow night because I’m pretty sure it would be fantastic!

Kings Soft Cookie with Dark Chocolate Chunks

Look at this chocolate-on-chocolate soft cocoa cookie. This was definitely a favorite of the kids. It was so soft and chewy- almost like a brownie. They loved the big dark chocolate pieces, although they did request a large glass of milk because it was very rich! We give it 2 thumbs up!

Universal Yums Subscription Box September 2019 - Minos Nut Bar Peanut & Honey Unopened Top Universal Yums Subscription Box September 2019 - Minos Nut Bar Peanut & Honey Opened Top

Minos Nut Bar Peanut & Honey

This was one of my favorites of the month. I am such a sucker for peanut brittle, and this took that to another whole level. The peanuts and honey and sesame seeds were super crunchy and sticky and I loved every bite of it. It was a little hard for my little guys to bite and chew, but I devoured it! I am especially impressed because they are preservative-, gluten-, and lactose-free!

Universal Yums Subscription Box September 2019 - Tsourekaki with Cocoa Cream Unopened TopUniversal Yums Subscription Box September 2019 - Tsourekaki with Cocoa Cream Opened Top

Tsourekaki with Cocoa Cream

This was the largest item in the box, and I’m really excited about it! We received an entire loaf of sweet bread filled with chocolate cream! I wasn’t quite sure what to expect with this, but I was pleasantly surprised! This very soft, moist bread was just sweet enough, and the chocolate cream surprise was delish! I was happy to sample it! While my younger son wasn’t a fan, my older one kept asking for more!

Universal Yums Subscription Box September 2019 - Frugeli Pomegranate Jelly Top

Frugeli Pomegranate Jelly

We love the little pretty packages in the Yum Bag, and these pomegranate flavored jelly candies were no exception! These little fruit rectangles taste like sugar-coated fruit snacks and my kids gobbled them right up!

Universal Yums Subscription Box September 2019 - Kokos Ouzo Top

Kokos Ouzo

Apparently Greece’s most beloved, most famous, and most popular drink is ouzo which has an anise flavor. These hard candies are also flavored with anise for a black licorice-like flavor. While my mom loves this kind of treat, I’m not really a fan, so while I did try one, I will be sending the rest her way to enjoy!

Universal Yums Subscription Box September 2019 - Kokos Honey Toffee Top

Kokos Honey Toffee

While I didn’t care for the Kokos Ouzo candy, I gotta say I did enjoy these Kokos honey toffees! They are honey flavored chews that have a perfectly sweet, natural honey flavor. They are deliciously chewy and creamy without a gritty texture. I will gladly eat all these!

The Verdict: We seriously enjoy Universal Yums so much. Each month they curate the box so well, and the included information booklet adds so much to the experience. My kids and I really feel like we were in Greece! This month was probably one of our favorites ever. While I never expect to like absolutely everything in the box, this month came close! My kids always ask when this box is coming and what country it is coming from. It really has created a family experience! We can’t wait to see where the next box comes from. The clue states: “Where we’re headed next, the symphonies give chills, you can hear ‘em in the opera house, the castles- the hills! But when you taste the Yums, the music will be eclipsed, by world-famous chocolates and punchy red chips!” Any ideas?

Score card picks:

  • Best Yum: Serenata Triplo Hazelnut
  • Runner-up: Minos Nut Bar Peanut and Honey
  • Worst Yum: Kokos Ouzo
  • Most Unusual: Moustokoulouro

To Wrap Up:

Can I still get this box if I sign up today? No. Each month they ship your box no later than the 15th day of the month. The first month you will receive a box varies based on availability and may depend on the size that you order.

Value Breakdown: This box is $25.00 a month (including shipping). I received 22 individually wrapped snacks, which averages out to $1.13 per item.

While I am taking a time-out from being a Clinical Laboratory Scientist, I am currently staying at home with my 2 sweet boys! My first subscription was Julep thanks to happening upon the MSA website, and it all went downhill from there! I have subscribed to Ipsy, Boxycharm, Degustabox, Julep, Graze, Bluum, Walmart, and more because I love a good surprise! I truly am a subscription addict!

  1. I was a little worried when I figured out we were “going” to Greece, because I don’t care for Greek food. But it was better than I thought it would be and I love reading the booklet when it comes in. To me, that’s one of the best parts of this sub.

I skipped the grape thing, didn’t care much for the peanut/honey or baklava (too sweet) and turned out to be slightly allergic to pomegranate (even though those were delicious). But it’s such a neat way to try things and I learn so much about the country. Excited for the next box!

    • I forgot to add that the heat was not as kind to my box as yours seemed to be. The honey chews paper stayed stuck to them and the chocolate was all a bit melted.

  2. This box looks so fun!! I thinking family would enjoy it as well. I may just have to try it out. Great review!! Thank you!!

  3. I’ve been missing a food box since Degustabox went away and I did study abroad in Austria, so I NEED that box. If I subscribe now, will October be my first box?

  4. Anyone else get the Super Yums box with the message that one of the featured chocolate treats was missing.. They said it was a quality issue, and there was not time to replace it from Greece, so there would be an extra chocolate large item in the next box. I don’t know how one more thing could have fit in the September box, LOL. Not sure how they are going to add anything to next month’s selections, but they pack it really well.

    • I’m glad to hear that they are sending a replacement Lily! I’ve had such great experience with Universal Yums as a whole- you’ll have to let us know what kind of extra large chocolate replacement you get!

  5. Do they have an online store where you can buy your favorites?

    • Not that I can find, but they are selling a Halloween candy box right now with wrapped candy from 4 countries.
The children who live in this community are not allowed to solicit treats, so it would be a waste for me, but it looks nice.

Next month is definitely Austria. The clues were about mountains and a rich history of music.

      • Thank you so much for commenting Lily! The Halloween box IS coming out, and so is my review for it! It has 300 pieces of candy in total – from 6 different countries. The link for it is http://www.universalyums.com/halloween

      • Thank you. And how sad that kids cannot trick or treat in your community.

    • DawnS – As of right now they don’t. I really hope they do in the future though, because I have found some supppppper yummy treats that I’ve been unable to hunt down online!

      • Thank you Becca, and great review! Looking forward to hearing about the Halloween box as I might get it for my desk at work 🙂

  6. I was a big disappointed in this box. The taste was fine, but usually when there are small items, we get 2 of the same. So I would of expected 2 of that hazelnut chocolate bar or 2 of the cookies or 2 of the wafers. There was just one of each so felt like it was missing stuff.

    • I’m sorry you were disappointed Nat! I definitely see where you are coming from with the smaller bars this time, and no duplicates. Hopefully October will really shine with all the chocolate! 🙂

  7. I think Austria!

  8. Can anyone guess next month’s box?

    • I think next month is Australia,I am hoping it is…..I get the biggest box and my family and I love this box too.

      • the next month is Austria. universal yams posted on fb. they also said it’s the most chocolate they’ve ever had in a box so I upgraded to a bigger one

      • That sounds amazing! I have been waiting for a box that I would want ever since I missed Colombia and Korea. Thanks everyone!

      • I can’t wait for the October box LunaLee! They had some photos on their Instagram advertisement that looked amazing!! Also, they have a Halloween box coming out – my review for it will be posted soon!

      • I can’t wait to receive the October box Nat! Chocolate is my FAVORITE! Good thinking on the upgrade…you’ll have to let me know what you discover!!

      • Oh I hope our weather finally cools off by the time they ship. It’s still mid-90s here for the next week!

      • Australia makes a lot of sense to me too. I almost canceled because it’s not cheap when you actually think about what you get, but I can’t do it, lol.

      • Next month is Austria not Australia

      • It’s so much fun, isn’t it Pamela? My kids wait all month long for this box! They love bringing the treats in their school lunches to show their friends all the new stuff they get to try!

      • Thanks for commenting Tina Ames! Isn’t this a great family box? We love the trivia facts we learn and eating all the tasty treats!!

  9. I got the Super Yums box and there were some super treats not in this version, and one large thing I didn’t like.

I highly recommend the Super box over the Regular box, because I believe I got around 6 more large items, and the only thing I didn’t like was a package of multi-cereal rings that looked like onion rings and tasted likt stale corn flakes. ( Not a corn flakes fan on my best day).

The top two things in the Super box not in this box was a huge apricot filled croissant, and a very large soft bar of fruit and honey nougat candy, which I associate more with France, as I first had a bit of it there.

    • Thanks for commenting Lily! Those treats sound delicious! I could really go for that apricot filled croissant right now!
