Ipsy is a monthly beauty and makeup subscription box. Each month you get full-size or deluxe-sized products, plus a cute makeup bag.

This is one of Liz’s top recommendations if you are looking for a subscription box - the value and sample sizes are amazing. (Check out our list of the best beauty boxes for 2019 and our reviews of Cheap Subscription Boxes for more recommendations!)

(FYI – Just like Birchbox, Ipsy sends out many different variations of their bag each month – so my review is just one of the bag variations you might receive!)

My Ipsy Glam Bag August 2019 Review

front of info paper product list back cover

Included is a card detailing your included items.

Each month, Ipsy subscribers get a makeup bag in addition to their items. This month was a sleek hunter green bag with a studded texture and pink interior. I am feeling deep greens for fall and this is one of my fave designs yet!

Huda Beauty Lip Contour Pencil in 'Trophy Wife', 1.2 g - Full Size! Retail Value $19.00

I have mad love for the Huda Beauty brand. I have yet to try anything that I don't really like (other than the false lashes which I am not cool enough to use). I own the Trophy Wife Matte Lipstick and I adore the color and formula, so I am happy to add the coordinating liner to my stash. It is super smooth, highly pigmented, and just the most perfect rosewood shade.

Yes, please!

belif Moisturizing Eye Bomb, 5 ml - Estimated Value $9.60 (Buy a full-size 25 ml for $48.00)

I love an eye cream, especially since I wipe my eyes down literally all day between eyeshadow and mascara swatches. The delicate skin around my peepers gets really irritated and dry. A little of this stuff goes a long way and though it feels light on your fingertips it feels heavier on your face, but in a good way. This is absolutely more of a before bed treatment in my opinion, as I can't imagine most makeup sitting well on top of it. My skin drank it up though, and I even tried it on the other dry patches on my face (namely around my nose and eyebrows) with much success. This is an eye cream I would whole-heartedly recommend if you need a literal moisture bomb.

ESTATE Cosmetics Eye Shade in 'Pipe', 1.7 g - Full Size! Retail Value $10.00

Ooooooh this color! It is like fall in a powder! Perfect for the upcoming fall months, this soft, metallic burnt orange would be gorgeous when used lightly for daytime looks or a little heavier for nighttime drama. It also made a dreamy liner when used wet and applied with a small brush. I tend to have a soft spot for shimmery shades that have a smooth finish without visible individual particles and this one is like butter without sacrificing the shine.

shadow swatch on arm

Pure fall.

Nails INC Polish in Feelings Feelings, 10 ml - Estimated Value $7.86 (It looks like most of their full size 14 ml polishes are $11.00)

This polish is like my skin tone, but shimmery! The formula is a little thick, but I prefer that, especially since I apply polish on top of an acrylic overlay so even if it is thick, it dried pretty fast. The coverage is great, as you can see from the image below, which is two coats over a dark navy gel polish.

I always enjoy a minimal mani.

Papa Recipe Bombee Honey Moisture Cleansing Foam, 15 ml - Estimated Value $1.88 (Buy a full-size 120 ml for $15.00)

Our last item is from Papa Recipe, which also happens to be the brand behind some of my favorite sheet masks. I liked this cleanser because it was a super creamy formula and had a soft honey scent. It left my skin feeling clean and very soft.

Verdict: This Ipsy Glam Bag had two full-size items! Full-size things always get me excited. I was also happy that one of those items was from Huda Beauty. Send me all the Huda! I actually really liked all the products this month and thought the selections were very well rounded. I will be keeping all of these items for myself this month! The overall value is somewhere around $48.34 which is great for a $10 bag.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Possibly! As of publication, there was no Ipsy waitlist. Check here to see what month you’ll get first.

Good to Know: Ipsy sends out variations. You may get a completely different bag than me.

Value Breakdown: At $10 for this box, here’s what you are paying approximately per item:

  • Makeup Bag: n/a
  • Huda Beauty Lip Liner $3.93
  • belif Moisture Bomb $1.99
  • ESTATE Cosmetics Shadow $2.07
  • Nails INC Polish $1.63
  • Papa Recipe Cleanser $0.39

Alternatively, each of the 5 items (not including the makeup bag) has an average cost of $2.00.

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

I got an email this morning from Ipsy about the changes they are making to make the Glambag experience better.
1. Picking 1 item for my Glambag starting in October.
2. Promising a value of $50 or more per bag plus a new quiz so we get less of the stuff we don’t want. 😂
3. Pick up to 5 Add Ons.
Then it goes on to state that their price is going up to $12 per month. Or, for loyal subscribers, such as myself, I can lock in my $10 per month by updating to annual. 🙄
It goes on a bit more… Glam Bag Ultimate, 12 items.
Then, thanks to you we’ve grown the largest and most engaged beauty membership in the world…just getting started…more Ipsy magic to come.

I’m happy for Ipsy. I truly am. They were my 1st subscription. I have tried Birchbox, Play by Sephora, Beauty Box 5 (BB5 is OOB), Macy’s Beauty Box, FFF, Allure Beauty Box and a couple that are not beauty related. I used to get the Walmart box & I purchase the Target boxes I want. None of them have lasted longer than 6 months except Ipsy & Allure. Ipsy has been the longest and the best overall, in my opinion. Even though I’m in my mid 40’s and am more into a natural look, I still find Ipsy to be the best of all in curation & value.
Yep! It’s true! I complain about ALL the eyeshadow brushes they send me. But, apparently, they are listening. Hopefully, their newer quiz will separate products differently. And hopefully, they will get it together with their add ons issues.
I do not like the raise in pricing. Even though it’s only $2 per month more which still makes them the least expensive beauty sub. I still think the long-term loyal subscribers should be locked into the $10 price at least for the 1st 6 months of the roll out. We aren’t paying for products. We are paying for Ipsy salaries, warehouse costs, shipping costs, etc. I think they made a smart choice to keep their price lower than $15.
Anyway, it is what it is and regardless of the $2 price increase, I will still stick with Ipsy.

I’m canceling my subscription to Ipsy because they sent the large plus with broken nail polish and it smeared on everything in that box…a sure waste of my money and time…cancel my subscription immediately…Beverly Carr Conley Georgia.. .disappointed after 3 years….

Reply ButtonReply

Lynda

So what do you think? That they purposely and knowingly put a broken nail polish in your bag? I doubt it. It more likely broke in transit. Things happen. I am sure if you contacted them, they would have been helpful. They have been more than accommodating to me.

And MSA cannot cancel your subscription. You best contact Ipsy, if you want to, before you are upset that they sent you December’s bag.

I’m sooo curious on the new Glam Bag Plus Ultimate that I had to sign up for it! I logged into my Ipsy app this morning and saw the new option. Super excited for October!

Reply ButtonReply

Cindy

Ipsy is going up to 12.00 in October and there’s a new Ipsy Ultimate for 50.00 a month with 12 products(not all full size) I think it says 4 full size products and 8 trial size but I’m not 100% on that. All the information is on Ipsys website.

Reply ButtonReply

D

Wow, my Ipsy bag the last year hasn’t even been worth the $10 they have been charging. Two of my samples this month were almost all air and now they are raising the price? I think it may be time for me to switch to the Macy’s subscription if it is only going to be $3 higher. They have better stuff anyway.

Reply ButtonReply

Kenley

I hear you! I got the It Cosmetics Confidence in a Gel Lotion this month and there was barely enough for even one application.

Cindy

Ultimate is expected to have 8 full size products and 4 trial sizes.

Reply ButtonReply

MzKayleeJames

Yeah I just bit the bullet but may change my mind. It’s 8 full size and 4 deluxe. But the example pic was actually more like 6-7 full size and I think they considered either a $6 morphe blush or. $12 travel ouia spray as full size. And they counted the smaller bum bum and mercier powder as full size. So I’m not sure how I feel about it. I figure the first month or two it’ll rock to get people to sign up. So I’ll take advantage of that then maybe go back to the regular plus. I mean it’s twice as much as the plus but you only get three more full size item so I think this should be more like $40 cause otherwise why not just get two plus bags or one plus and a regular bag. I guess the incentive is the deluxe size bag? I mean we were originally supposed to get the bag but they took it to give better/more product. So I’ll give it a shot for a month or two then back off cause I’m already on overload. Maybe this is their counterpart to boxyluxe and that market? I just wonder if it’ll be same products as the plus but just more or if they will reserve a few special things just for the ultimate to keep people on that one. I cancelled FabFitFun so that’s the only reason I’m willing to try it cause I have WAY to much as it is lol. Fingers crossed it’s good though cause right now I like plus more than boxy.

Does anyone know when sample choice will be this month. It’s not showing on my timeline this month as it did last month. It usually says customization with a date, but nothing this month.

Reply ButtonReply

Luna

Did you happen to notice that it said Customization before you were able to choose a sample? If so, do you remember how many days before? My timeline also said Customization, but I didn’t notice it until either the day of or after sample selection… not that I had ever paid attention to the timeline before, but I’m wondering if they didn’t put it on there until the day of sample selection.

Reply ButtonReply

Ashley

Well, now that you mention it, it may only of shown up on the day of sample choice last month. I can’t remember exactly, but I read an earlier comment from someone that said it showed up on their timeline on the 1st of this month.

Tamichiko

I just got both my Glam Bag and my GBP today, and I am so peeved. Both the ColourPop palette and lip set that I ordered as addons for my GBP are missing, and the Suva eyeshadow in my Glam Bag arrived shattered beyond repair. And to top it off, the Hikari cream pigment that I had redeemed points for last month was not in either one of my packages. I did email IpsyCare about all of these issues, so I’ll have to wait and see what they say. I’m hoping that they can send a replacement for at least the Suva eyeshadow, but as far as the missing addons/point redemption items are concerned, I want either the products that I paid/redeemed points for or my money/points back.

Reply ButtonReply

Tamichiko

Update: I just heard back from IpsyCare. I will be getting a refund for the ColourPop palette because it is sold out, but they will be sending replacements for everything else. I’m satisfied with how their customer service handled this situation. I’m bummed that I won’t be able to get the ColourPop palette, but at the same time I am satisfied with the solution.

I got Huda lip liner,Nanette Lepore perfume, Belief eye cream, eyeshadow in a bright red and Youth to the People cleanse. I absolutely love the cleanser. I got the same one in Sephora Play a few months back and loved it. I already use the Belief eye cream so it’s nice to have an extra. I love perfume and this one is a nice fresh Summer one. The eyeshadow is tons of fun. Red eyeshadow with glitter on top looks so awesome. I can also use it as blush. I’m not a huge Huda fan. Her stuff is ok but meh. I’ll use the liner but wouldn’t buy anything of hers on my own. I love my Ipsy bag. I don’t bother with Ipsy Plus so I still actually enjoy my little bag of goodies every month!

Reply ButtonReply

Megan K.

I was kind of hoping for that cleanser! Glad to hear good things. I might just have to buy it..

When I first saw my Glam Bag reveal, I thought the bag was going to be black and I was pretty excited. Although the dark green isn’t disappointing.
The products I got were:
1. Deluxe eyeliner from Eyeko
2. Estate eyeshadow in Smash (it’s a shimmery crimson shade)
3. Pixi blush in Peach Parfait
4. Deluxe Ahava body lotion
5. Sample Belief eye cream

This was my second bag. So far, I have been very pleased with Ipsy’s curation, I haven’t gotten any products that I do not want. 3 out of 5 products are makeup and 2 are full-sized items, which I really appreciate.
This month I got 2 add-ons: the IT Cosmetics foundation and a lip stain by THE BALM Cosmetics.

Reply ButtonReply

Adeline

I was so looking forward to my add on. My pink mailer showed up and its missing. Ipsy said they ran out. So frustrated

Reply ButtonReply

Lindsey

All three of my add-ons were missing. Two they are supposed to be sending and one was out of stock. Seems to be the theme this month.

Reply ButtonReply

MissPippa

My add-ons were also missing. It was very disappointing because I was not very excited about the bag itself or the contents. I had never been disappointed by Ipsy in the two years I have subscribed until the last two months. Maybe I am just over this subscription & need to move on. I certainly have enough products to last a life time.

Reply ButtonReply

Marie

They told me the same thing, I really wanted the TOUCH IN SOL Pretty Filter Waterful Glow Cream.😭

Reply ButtonReply

Nikki

I wanted that too. Until I read the ingredients.

Shelbi

The same thing happened to me!! I got 2 full size add ons and is processing a refund… I was pretty bummed.

Reply ButtonReply

Marion

A lot happier with ipsy since I canceled GBP. This month, I bought my first full-size add on, theBalm palette. Surprised that it arrived stuffed into my pink bubble mailer along with everything else, & even more surprised that it arrived intact! The two lip products that I had redeemed points for were also there. Phew!

I also got the Belif eye cream, & the Cuccio polish in Gaia (not sure why a red shade is named after an Earth Goddess, but whatever, we’ll go with it). I picked the Coco Cabana sample for my bag, before they released the info about the reformulation. It’s definitely thicker like the Bum Bum, but still not as absorbant & quick-drying. I also miss the scent a little, & I feel like it didn’t change enough for people who didn’t like it before to now like it (but maybe I’m wrong! let me know if you didn’t like it before & do like this version!). It still smells buttery, but a less like popcorn & more like coconut cake. I did previously buy Coco Cabana products (on sale, because $$$), but I don’t think I would buy this reformulation.

I also got the SLMISSGLAM eye brush & the Suva eye shadow in BBQ, which are both up for swap (click my name). I’d love to swap for the Estate Cosmetics eye shadow in Smash.

Reply ButtonReply

Dawn

The only good thing about my bag was the bag. And the $27 in add ons I bought. The YTTP cleanser, the Mott primer (yuck), the Chinese made Adesse lipstick, the Satin Dream leave in cream AGAIN and another eyeshadow brush for someone who does not use the stuff. At least the cleanser is useful. A big Booooo to this month.

Reply ButtonReply

Liz

I love Ipsy but it seems like they have been having a lot of shipping and missing items issues, which really stinks. I get the Glam Bag Plus and loved everything but was most excited about my add on and of course it did not show up with my box and then when I contacted them they said the item was out of stock 😔 but on a good note I found someone to swap with so at least I’m still gonna get it.

Reply ButtonReply

Daisy

Yes! My Glam bag was missing Sol De Janeir cream (add on) and my GBP was missing IT foundation in light, also an add on. My Hikari shadow purchased with points was crushed. The cream is out of stock, still waiting to hear about the others.

Reply ButtonReply

KATHY m STEWART

i get a highlighter every bag. how about some foundation. another perfume sample would be great. i get a brush in everybag too. oh well my friends are happy. i just give them away. but i still love my bags. would love some blush please.

Reply ButtonReply

Lynda

Bliss? I’ve gotten 4 in the last two months!

Reply ButtonReply

Cary San

Opt out of brushes and highlighter. I am opt out of highlighter and eyeshadow. Just preference but in GBP they have been guarantee an eyeshadow lately so to make up for it they offer you a pick for the next bag.

Reply ButtonReply

Dani

What a fantastic bag! Well, the products anyway. I definitely didn’t care for the bag. I didn’t even notice if it was sewn properly since it immediately went into my donate pile. My product picks were okay I guess. I’ve had better and had worse. My biggest bone to pick with Ipsy is about Huda. I get two bags, one I’ve had for 6 years, the other going on 2. In the past year, maybe a little less, Ipsy has featured either the Huda lip liner or the liquid lipstick almost every month. Not only have I never received one, I’ve never even had the option to add one on. Neither product, neither of my accounts. I even contacted Ipsy Care and basically begged to at least have the option to purchase one or both in either bag in any month. They basically said too bad, no we can’t do that in their round-about generic response way. Yet I see Trophy Wife in others’ bags month after month.

I finally got the Huda liquid lipstick in my Allure box but it was a color I can’t even stand to see on myself, not even just to try out the formula. Megan, if you’re reading this I know you love those orange reds but you actually look good in them! I’m not much of a red lip color person anyway but if I dare to sport one it has to be blue based.

I guess the next time Ipsy does something wrong, which happens a lot as we all know when it comes to shipping, order cancellations without communication, etc etc. I will suggest finally sending me a Huda lip product as the best (or ONLY) solution. 😄

Reply ButtonReply

Megan K.

totally guilty of some red-orange lip love! I like borderline obnoxious lip colors in general though… 😀 Fingers crossed for some Huda love in one of your bags soon!

Reply ButtonReply

Dani

I suppose I should also add that I have an Ipsy Plus subscription since the Huda lip products have been in that sub as well. Still, no luck. I’ve received so many other liquid lipsticks in both Plus and the original sub but never Huda and never any brand of lip liner at all. No matter how I adjust my profile.

But then again, I probably shouldn’t complain at all about the products I receive because at least I get them. I’ve been lucky enough not to ever have a bag/box that got lost permanently. Delayed yes, but never gone completely. I’ve had many issues with Ipsy Shopper orders and point redemptions but at least they’ve never cheated me out of my monthly subscription. Of course my luck may run out now that I mentioned it. 😄

Reply ButtonReply

Disappointed

I’ve only been an Ipsy member for 3 months, but today is the third time in a row I’ve received a shipment with a missing item. I’m giving them one more chance to get it right. If my 4th Glam Bag is missing anything, I’m going to cancel.

Reply ButtonReply

Mary

Same thing happened to me—my shipping email showed a whole new set of items. I like the items in the shipping email better, but either way the thing I am most hoping for is that all 3 of my add-ons will be included!

Reply ButtonReply

Luna

I should be getting my bag anyday now (it had an estimated delivery date of yesterday, but I didn’t get it), and despite seeing my reveal, I’m actually not sure what I’ll be getting. Lol. The shipping email I received has a completely different set of products showing with reasons under each product why they were chosen for me. The bag in the email would be a 5/5 bag, and the bag shown on my account would be 4/5. Funny enough I think I like my reveal a tad more cause the products I do like I like a tad more than the 5/5 bag. I can’t wait to see which version I get!

Reply ButtonReply

Jen Magers-Brown

I would just be happy to get my Ipsy box this month, was marked delivered but never arrived, was so excited about what I was getting in addition to my add-ons then they refunded my add ons and I have no clue what I’m supposed to be getting now 😪

Reply ButtonReply

tammy g

i did not like this month ipsy…and I don’t like fingernail polish..to many small samples too..ipsy you need to step products up a little..

Reply ButtonReply

MzBev

I got 2 of those Huda liners, in a previous Ipsy Plus. Gotta say, I’m not a big fan of them.
They certainly are creamy and pigmented, but came across kind of patchy. I need to try them again, probably on their own – without any lipstick over it. I think they would work better like that. I was happy to see the eye cream tub so full! I added that on to my bag. It is very small but eye creams usually last a good while. Even that one will.

Reply ButtonReply

Luna

I thought the same thing about the eye cream. 🙂 It was quite satisfying seeing the sample so full. I added this to my bag, so I’m quite pleased. I’m sure the sample has a false bottom, but even so, I always get a ton of uses out of eye cream samples, so I’m looking forward to trying this one out.

Reply ButtonReply

Megan K.

confirming that sneaky round false bottom. At least a little goes a long way!

Steph H.

I received the eye cream several months ago in my bag and unfortunately it does have a rounded false bottom unless they’ve changed the packaging. There’s still a good bit of product as a little bit goes a long way. Sadly, it burns my eyes, but I think I’ll use it on other areas that need a little extra attention.

Twyla

I would have LOVED to get that Estate eyeshadow. What a gorgeous coppery shade 😀 The Huda lip liner is gorgeous, I would also have loved that one!

You got a great bag this month! 🙂

Reply ButtonReply

Lisa

If you have not had another offer already – I won’t be using my Estate eye shadow…that shade won’t look good on me at all !!! Would be happy to send it to you 😃

Reply ButtonReply

Twyla

That would be amazing! I can pay postage 😁 Is there anything you are looking for? I am getting the Suva eyeshadow in purple, but can’t wear purples well. You can reach me at twylajordan at gmail.

Thank you!! 🌻🌷 ☺

Monica

I’m still waiting for my bag to be delivered. The Huda lip pencil is a nice shade. Wish I had received it.

Reply ButtonReply

D

The bag itself was ok but two of my samples were so small I wouldn’t even consider them single use. They were tiny tubes to begin with and then almost all air. I also got yet another brush and it is one I have received before. Not sure how much longer I will hang on with this subscription. It has really gone downhill for me for the last year.

Reply ButtonReply

Victoria

If you got a repeat product, reach out to Ipsy Customer Service. They do their best to accommodate you if you received a product twice. Though, double check to make sure its actually double, sometimes there’s a slight variance that you may not notice until taking a second look. Good luck!

Reply ButtonReply

D

Thanks. I have subscribed for several years now so yes it is a repeat. I don’t use the brushes I have now. It just seems like Ipsy is going somewhat downhill the last year or so like some others have.

Penny

Love my products this month, but I also received a bag that was poorly sewn and coming apart at the bottom.☹️ It’s a bummer because I was hoping to keep this bag, so pretty! I do love my eye bomb cream! IPSY is a great deal overall….

Reply ButtonReply

Emma

I am satisfied with the products in my bag, but the bag itself was so poorly sewn together– crooked at the zipper and the bottom. On a lot of bags, that doesn’t bug me but because the pattern of this bag is straight lines and squares, it was soooooo obvious and offputting. Won’t be keeping the bag. 🙁

Reply ButtonReply

Dawna

My Glambag wasn’t that great for me personally this month but absolutely everything will be useful to someone. I always go and look through all the products available for the month before I make a judgment call as to wether or not it’s a bad curation, or just the best they could do with what they had. This month, bad curation. I changed the categories I’m opted out of. Mascara was one of them because I only wear waterproof. Been with Ipsy 3 1/2 years. They had 4 mascaras this month, one was waterproof but that’s not the one I got. Luxie eyeshadow brush. Another eyeshadow brush?! I don’t use eyeshadow or eyeshadow brushes. I rate them at a 1 every time. I don’t get it… I think that’s the 6th or maybe 7th eyeshadow brush from Ipsy this year alone! Come on… I could have used the concealer brush though… Sheet mask duo- peach and blueberry, eh… I like sheet masks but I’ve tried some similar and I’m not a fan of the fake fruit fragrances. Feel facial oil- this stuff is really runny! Not a huge fan of the brand but I will use this because it doesn’t stink. Lol! Plus, my face isn’t sticky. This is the best thing in my Glambag. I’m in my mid 40’s, so I prefer a more age appropriate facial oil. But, I do have to give this one a 4. If you got it and don’t like facial oils, give this one a try. As I said, it’s runny/thin, so I put 4 drops in my hand, rubbed them together and pressed it in. I used it on top of my nighttime creams to help seal everything in. Some oils take all night to soak in or I might notice some on my pillow, but this absorbed very quickly, no tacky or sticky feel at all. I think this is probably best for younger skin as it does not have staying power. My face is not as supple this morning compared to other oils. I really like it on my hands though. I got a teeny little tube of Elizabeth Mott matte primer. I have 4 different primers that I use depending on the weather, time of year or the makeup I’m wearing. I was actually hoping this would be big enough to donate… I don’t know how I feel about this one… I can usually make my little crows feet unnoticeable with minimal makeup. The only thing different was this primer. Kinda drying, but might be useful to spot treat oily areas only as opposed to an all over primer. Idk… Looking at everything available this month, it could have been better. I’m definitely not at all happy about another eyeshadow brush though. 🙄

Reply ButtonReply

Luna

I chose that Elizabeth Mott primer as an add on to my Ipsy+ , and I was shocked at how tiny it was! If I would have known I wouldn’t have spent $3 on it. Lol. Hopefully, there’s more than just a couple of uses to get a feel on whether I like it.

Reply ButtonReply

Dawna

It says it’s 5ml, which I believe it is. I compared it to another sample product that says it’s the same weight but the tube is bigger and there’s are in the tube. This primer tube, although it’s small, is packed full. I did test it on the back of my hand to get a feel for it. It does not take that much. Use sparingly and then add more if you need. I probably would have loved this 15 years ago. But not so much on my aging skin. However, I will be using it sparingly on my nose and chin area again just to see how that goes. They mean matte! Which ,unfortunately, happens to accentuate fine lines, etc… but with this heat and humidity,..
