Vegan Cuts Beauty Box Subscription Review – December 2018

Vegan Cuts Beauty December 2018 - Box Review Front

The Vegan Cuts Beauty Box is a monthly beauty and makeup subscription box. All of their products are vegan (and they tend to be natural, too). They also typically include a nice mix of full-size and sample beauty items. Vegan Cuts also offers a monthly Snack Box and quarterly Makeup Box.

This review is of the Vegan Cuts Beauty, $22.95 a month, box.

Vegan Cuts sends a single package to subscribers who get both the beauty and snack boxes. The beauty items are separated into a little bag. (If you do not get the snack box, I don’t think you get the little bag.)

Vegan Cuts sent us this box for review purposes. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

Vegan Cuts Beauty Box December 2018 Review

The Vegan Cuts Beauty Box usually contains a variety of hair care, skincare, and bath and body products. There’s often one makeup product, as well:

Each Vegan Cuts Beauty Box comes with an information card detailing the items for that month.

Vegan Cuts Beauty December 2018 - Booda Organics Lip Balm

Booda Organics Lip Balm (4.25 g) – Retail Value $3.95

This is unscented and unflavored so I actually gave it to my husband who has been looking for such an item. He has been using it without any complaints (I can’t always get a lot of commentary out of him) so it seems to be working for him.

Vegan Cuts Beauty December 2018 - William Roam Sense American Pacific Bath Salts Top Vegan Cuts Beauty December 2018 - William Roam Sense American Pacific Bath Salts Open Top

William Roam Sense American Pacific Bath Salts (1 oz) – Estimated Value $2.44 (buy a 9 oz jar for $21.95)

I have a rash on my legs right now so I am hesitant to take a bath with bath salts, but my feet are A-OK and I have a heated foot bath and this small amount is just perfect for use there. It has a slight floral/spicy fragrance that I like quite a bit. I definitely found it relaxing and I think it softened my skin up some, as well.

Vegan Cuts Beauty December 2018 - Flora and Fauna Cuticle Hero Oil Top

Flora and Fauna Cuticle Hero Oil (4 mL) – Retail Value $9.99

This is full of vitamins, including vitamin E, which I have heard in the past can be good for cuticles. Right now my hands are an absolute mess due to the cold weather and having to repeatedly wash them (after giving medicine to my pets and so forth). So I have started using this. It is non-irritating and hopefully, after a few weeks, I will see some results.

Vegan Cuts Beauty December 2018 - NCLA Travel Size Manicure Kit Top Vegan Cuts Beauty December 2018 - NCLA Travel Size Manicure Kit Open Top

NCLA Travel Size Manicure Kit – Retail Value $16

This comes at a good time for me. I have been needing to get a new small nail clipper since my old one broke (I’ve been using a comically large one in the meantime). Plus, the other tools are also handy. This would not take up much space in my purse and could also come in handy those times I break a nail when I’m out and about.

Vegan Cuts Beauty December 2018 - Ogee Jojoba Restore Face Oil Top

Ogee Jojoba Restore Face Oil (20 mL) – Listed Value $44

The value here is from the information card. I believe this product has been discontinued; all the product listings I see now go to something with a different name, different bottle design, different size, and higher price (see here for an example). Anyway, this seemed to be in good shape and unexpired so I tried it out. I don’t really get dry skin on my face, even in winter, but have found that as long as I am consistent about exfoliation, I can use facial oils as moisturizers without any trouble. This is a morning product for me and does not interfere with the subsequent application of foundation.

Vegan Cuts Beauty December 2018 - Buck Naked Mint Soap Top Vegan Cuts Beauty December 2018 - Buck Naked Mint Soap Open Top

Buck Naked Soap Company Cranberry Mint Soap (0.75 oz) – Estimated Value $1.19 (buy a 5 oz bar for $7.95)

This is nice soap, very soothing and moisturizing. However, I don’t find getting tiny soaps like this particularly useful for cleaning my whole body, especially when soap, overall, is an inexpensive item. I’d rather see a full bar. Due to the size, I am using this on my hands. I would say the scent is much more “mint” than “cranberry.”

Vegan Cuts Beauty December 2018 - Hype Plant-Based Nail Enamel in Water Lily Polish Front

Hype Plant-Based Nail Enamel in Water Lily – Retail Value $7.99

This is a new brand for me. They have some nice colors and also some treatments and top coats and things that seem promising. (As I mentioned earlier, my nails are in bad shape, and if there was a gentler polish out there, I’d be all over it.) The only thing is, it is REALLY hard to find the list of ingredients in this product (in fact, I couldn’t). I am guessing this is not water-based or they would say so. It does appear to be at least 5-free.

Vegan Cuts Beauty December 2018 - Polish Swatch Front

Here is a swatch of the polish. This was two thick coats. I might suggest a layer of white under it and do bear in mind that this swatch is on clear plastic so an actual finger underneath would change the look a bit. It seemed to dry reasonably quickly.

Verdict: I calculated a value of about $85.56 for this month’s Vegan Cuts Beauty Box. That is close to four times the cost of the subscription. I was a little disappointed that the facial oil appears to be discontinued but the alternate product I linked to may, in fact, be the same thing just in updated packaging. Anyway, I rather liked getting a manicure kit and cuticle oil and the overall focus on the nails this month, as I have been neglecting mine, and the value was there for sure this month. A lot of the brands were new to me, too.
