Finally, hangers and nails are included to hang the triangle shelves if desired. Another option is to display the shelves on a desk or tabletop.

The materials in the box included:

Additional materials suggested but not included in the box was a hammer, water of cup, ruler and something to protect your workspace when painting. Additionally, I used scissors to cut the masking tape and disposable bowls to hold the paint while painting.

Let’s jump into this month’s Adults and Crafts project!

Adults & Crafts Triangle Shelves & Photo Block Kit November 2018 Review - Applying Masking Tape Front

The first step was to choose the paint design and color schemes. I'm in the process of decorating my new office so I choose white and gold paints to match the color scheme. I choose simple yet modern and chic geometric patterns for the shelves and block. Next, I meticulously applied the masking tape to the shelves and block and prepared my space for painting.

I started with the white paint first. Because I was worried that I would run out of paint having chosen the same colors for each item, I initially applied only a thin layer of white paint. When assured that I had enough paint, I applied a second coat.

Next, I cleaned the brushes and prepared to paint using the glorious gold metallic paint. It would have been great if more foam brushes were included in the box. This paint color is phenomenal! I love the intensity of the color and the slight simmer.

After allowing time for the paint to dry, I removed the masking tape and made minor touch-ups using the fine tip paint brush. Applying the hardware is simple but I skipped this step because I intend to display the items on my desk.

How cool are these? I absolutely love the finished product! It will be a nice addition to my new office!

Verdict: This craft project was fun, easy and allowed space for individual taste and creativity. The 2-4 hours estimate is fair but really depends on the designs you choose and how intricate they are. The acrylic paint is fast drying so not much time is needed to allow the paint to dry. This craft kit can be completed in one evening so it would be a great choice for a craft party! Overall, I love how the project came out. The largest triangle shelf is my favorite.

Value Breakdown: The cost of this box is $39.95 ($33 + $6.95 shipping) and creates 3 triangle shelves and a photo block plus leftover paint and supplies that can be used for future projects. The retail value of the materials is $20.51 not including the flat and fine tip paint brushes and drywall nails. At a little over half the price of the box itself, it doesn’t make for a good value. However, the project and the end result were very nice.

I recently subscribed to Adulst and Crafts and this was my first box. I was looking forward to learning a new skill, or trying something I wouldn’t be able to accomplish on my own. But this was literally just painting wood that came preassembled. It was a bit of a disappointment. I’m not sure what “technique” I was supposed to have learned here. Also, my finished product looks like an art project, and definitely not worthy of displaying in my home.

I like the way the shelves and photo cube turned out. This actually seems like a project I could do as well! Thank you for the review.

Thanks for the comment, Vanessa! It wasn’t hard at all and I got a lot of compliments on them at work.
