Art Snacks November 2018 Review
This is the information card that came in the package. It lists each item in the box with suggestions on how to use them. My husband is an artist, and he was completely excited to play with all these new toys! Some candy and the trademark Art Snacks sticker were also included.
Liquitex Acrylic Gouache - Retail Value $10.99 (found here for $7.69)
If you've ever painted with acrylic paints before, you'll know that a trademark characteristic is thickness and therefore visible brushstrokes. This can be a part of your design, but often the strokes (and sometimes cracks) are hard to control and can detract from your art. Not so with acrylic gouache! It has superior fluidity and melts away the brush strokes and cracks. My husband and I both love using it, and this particular one is such a vibrant blue!
Winsor & Newton Galeria Short Handle Brush, Round Size 3 - Retail Value $8.49 (Found here for $2.79)
This brush was specifically designed for use with acrylics. It is strong, yet sensitive. Just like my husband! He enjoyed using this brush and said it worked well for detailed painting with acrylic gouache.
Sakura Microperm Pen - Retail Value $2.79 (Found here for $2.09)
My husband absolutely loves Sakura pans, so this was an instant win. This particular pen is special because it can write on any surface, is waterproof, and is permanent! Wow! Who knew a pen could be so awesome?
Cretacolor MegaGraphite Pencil - Retail Value $2.30 (Found here for $1.89)
It doesn't always seem like getting a pencil in a fine arts subscription box is that big of a deal, but you would be surprised by how much pencils can differ in quality! This pencil is made from a high-quality graphite, so it has very smooth and consistent action and application. It is also soft and erases easily.
Art Snacks is not a project box like we sometimes review with instructions and everything, but my husband always likes to do a sample work to show what can be done with the materials provided. He felt like although this sketch is kind of simple, it really showcases what the materials included can do. I think it's lovely! This also qualifies as an #artsnackschallenge, which is Art Snacks' monthly challenge to create something using only the materials provided plus paper.
Verdict: Art Snacks is always so much fun! We get to try new fine arts/drawing supplies and tools, and I think my husband really enjoys the Art Snacks Challenge! This month's retail value comes to $24.57, which is just about even with the cost of the box. That's actually pretty good for a fine arts subscription box!
To Wrap Up:
Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, you will receive the December box.
Coupon – Use code JAKEPARKER to save 10% off your first subscription or gift box!
Value Breakdown: This box cost me $24 including free shipping, which means that each of the 4 items in the box has an average cost of $6. The total value of materials included was $24.57, so it just surpasses the cost of the box.
