Little Feminist Book Club June 2018 - welcome card Little Feminist Book Club June 2018 - welcome card back

I received this welcome card introducing this month’s books. The back highlights each item you will receive this month and how to use them. Super helpful!

This DIY card is filled with steps for each activity featured this month. You can bring science into your home with making your own popcorn and germinating beans. I haven’t tried either of these just yet with my little one, but I can’t wait to save these for a rainy day activity!

The Gardener by Sarah Stewart – Retail Value $8.99 (found here for $7.19)

The illustrations in this book were the first thing that caught my attention. They remind me of books I read as a young girl, flipping through the pages, getting completely lost in everything that the book had to offer. The story takes place during the Depression where Lydia Grace goes to the big city to live with her uncle. He is not a happy man but he runs a bakery in town. Lydia Grace brings with her in her suitcase little seeds that she uses to bring joy to customers in the bakery. What you soon discover, though, is that she is also working on a rooftop garden to try to spread joy and light throughout the city. I love the message in this book and the strength of Lydia Grace to bring joy to people’s lives during an awful time. It reminds you that the little things are what we miss in our day to day and that it doesn’t take much to spread love, light, and joy. I think this is a message that many of us could use right now even, but it is an important show of character that I can’t wait to read to my little ones.

Little Feminist Book Club June 2018 - discussion questions Little Feminist Book Club June 2018 - discussion questions back

Discussion Question For The Gardener

Each book will come with a list of discussion questions. I love that they are listed by age range! You will see questions like what is Lydia nervous about, or why does Lydia go to live with her uncle? The questions are great to use with your little one to connect feelings, emotions, and events back to the book in an open discussion. This is so important for kids of all ages and a great habit to get into, I’m so happy these are included each month!

Raising Dragons by Jerdine Nolen – Retail Value $8.99

Dragon books are a favorite in my house right now so this was a huge hit right away! This book takes us to a farm where an egg hatches into a, you guessed it, a dragon! One young girl falls in love with Hank the dragon, and soon her parents do too. This book takes us through the adventures that Hank goes on at the farm, and shows maybe why farm life isn’t for him. At the heart of it though, this book is about love and friendship of the deepest kind where we do not see differences or that someone doesn’t “fit in” somewhere. It is just pure love!

Discussion Questions For Raising Dragons

Here is the second set of discussion questions for the book Raising Dragons. Again, they are broken out by age and are a great way to continue meaningful discussions with your little one, even after reading!

Sticker Set

The final activity item for the month is this adorable sticker set! I love the bold graphics and the unique sticker board page. One one side you will see a theme that matches the book Raising Dragons and one for The Gardener on the other side. These are great to use while you work on your discussion questions, or you can even come up with your own questions or games to relate back to the books.

Verdict: I love Little Feminist Book Club! This month featured two books instead of one, a great value in my eyes. Both books were so beautiful with lovely illustrations and meaningful stories. I love seeing female characters each month and discovering new books and authors with my little one. Plus, the discussion questions always allow us to have a continued discussion about the book that always helps to bring the message together even after reading. Both books are ones that I am happy to add to our growing collection!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, your next box would be July!

Value Breakdown: This box costs $25 a month with free shipping and I received two paperback books along with sticker activity pages and discussion cards.
