Just a heads up, there aren't prices listed in the booklet for the items, so I'm going off the prices given in this Globein spoilers post!

globein tea party lantern

Hanging Lantern, India - Listed Value $20

I've always liked little lanterns like this for sitting out on the porch on a summer night. Just pop a candle in the tray of this 7" tall lantern, close the door, and enjoy the glow. It's also awfully convenient if you want to create a little ambiance indoors, but don't want pets (take a curious cat, for instance) to go poking around any flames!

Set of 2 Tea Light Candles, Haiti - Listed Value $5.00

To complete the set, Globein included a duo of beeswax candles from Haiti! They have a more natural honey color to them than the pure white candles you see at the store, which I think makes a better complement for this rustic lantern.

Striped Ice Tea Pitcher, Mexico - Listed Value $50.00

Ugh, I am in LOVE with this 9" tall pitcher! First of all, it was packed so nice and securely, so it arrived without any dings or cracks. (Always important with home boxes like this one.) Sometimes items in Globein feature more intricate, rustic designs—they're beautiful, but this striped white pattern feels really fresh, modern, and true to my usual decor style. It'll work great for serving drinks or cocktails, or even as a vase in a pinch.

globein tea party tulsi tea

Tulsi Tea, India, 2.47 oz. - Listed Value $22.00

The box includes some tea to help fill up that pitcher! This loose leaf blend contains bits and pieces of all sizes and shapes, so it's a little tricky to fit into the basket of an infuser (without a good bit spilling onto the counter). But the aroma is beautiful. It's a version of green tea with a hearty flavor and more aromatic notes than I'm used to from green tea blends.

Pom-Pom Garland, Nepal - Listed Value $20.00

How cute!!! I love that pom-poms are having a moment. The color palate of these richly colored balls is so charming. It's festive enough for a party and moody enough for a sunset dinner outdoors. There are 5 feet of garland here with a convenient loop and a set of tiny gold bells on the ends.

The Verdict: I'm so charmed by this box! I like that they didn't stick too tightly to the tea aspect of the tea party theme—even if you don't love tea, I feel like the decorations and pitcher give you plenty to love. This would be a great box to give as a housewarming or hostess gift. (You could also give any one of these items as gifts and keep the rest for yourself!) $50.00 (price + shipping) always feels like a lot of money for me, but Globein usually rises to the occasion. That's particularly true with this box. Especially given that these are handmade, fairly traded products, the $50.00 price tag feels totally reasonable. (If I had bought similar items at a fair trade shop near me, I could see spending about the same amount if not a little more.)

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No. Subscribers have between the 1st and the 10th of the month to pick their box from the available themes.

Value Breakdown: At $50.00 for this box ($40.00 + $10.00 shipping), each item has an average price of about $10.00 (not counting the bonus item). But I estimate that I got $117.00 worth of retail value (using Globein's values). Using those estimated numbers, the proportional cost of each item is:

  • Pitcher - $21.37
  • Lantern - $8.55
  • Garland - $8.55
  • Candles - $2.14
  • Tea - $9.40

Wow they way inflated the value of this box…Everything is Priced way higher than it is actually worth. Like anyone would pay 20 bucks for a pom-pom strand or 22 dollars for a small bag of loose tea…how ridiculous. Even the pitcher is more like a 20 dollar target find..$50 dollars??? lol. Maybe if it was hand blown in front of me….

$50 for a nice glass pitcher is not much. I have one from Crate & Barrel that cost over $100. It’s all relative to where you’re used to shopping. Target stuff isn’t usually going to last as long as a higher end brand.

I love, love, love the pitcher! And the lantern is also very nice. I really appreciate the simplicity of the designs this month; often, the items are too busy/intricate for my style.

I am happy to see the lantern you received is not as bright pink as the one on the website. Crossing my fingers the one I receive is the same.

The pitcher is so pretty. I think it would fit in with most decors.

So…does the lantern come in assorted colors? If the lantern pictured in MSA’s review is the same color as the one in GlobeIn’s marketing photos, I feel GlobeIn’s photo editing is too heavyhanded. I fully expected a hot pink or magenta product, worlds away from the cherry red shown in the review.

OTOH, if it’s a color assortment, then I’d have no issue. I’ve noticed color discrepancies due to photo editing before, though, such as with Malika dinnerware. If you do a Google image search for Malika dinnerware, it’s easy to pick out GlobeIn’s photos of it because of the brilliant turquoise. Everyone else’s photos show the more true-to-life teal.

Anyway, it nags at me a bit.
