Accio! March 2018 Review

This month’s box is Luna Lovegood-themed! The pamphlet this time is styled like The Quibbler, the publication written by Luna’s dad, Xenophilius Lovegood. This documents all the goodies found inside, so let’s go exploring, shall we?

Luna Bath Bomb

Luna Bath Bomb - Listed Value $8

The first object I found in the box is one of my very favorites to receive - a bath bomb! Shaped into a round disc with Luna’s infamous Spectrespecs molded on top, I’m so impressed with the vibrant colors. I love bath bombs - they make my skin so soft and they smell so good. This was a fantastic fizzer and I really loved the smell - nice and sweet and kind of juicy. The additional sparkle on this bomb was the perfect finishing touch!

Luna Paper Doll

Luna Paper Doll - Listed Value $15

I can’t remember the last time I’ve seen a paper doll in person, and I certainly don’t remember the last time I’ve seen one this well-made! I was so completely charmed by the accessories included with this Luna doll, complete with some wizarding books and her lion headdress she wears when supporting Gryffindor’s Quidditch team. I also loved how securely packaged it was! I think I’m going to frame all the components of this set for a really nice decor piece.

Luna’s Room Candle, 14 oz

Luna’s Room Candle, 14 oz  - Listed Value $28

I wondered why this box was so heavy! This was a really generously-sized soy candle for a subscription box, and I absolutely loved the packaging. I love how Luna’s Spectrespecs are such an instant symbol for her character, and the candle manages to somehow look chic and nerdy at the same time! The scent is cotton candy and watermelon, and while it doesn’t smell fake or unpleasant, it is really, really sweet. Wow. You can’t say that this scent isn’t a perfectly quirky choice, though, which I really appreciate!

Friendship Bracelet, yellow and red twisted

Friendship Bracelet, Lion Colors - Listed Value $2

I loved making friendship bracelets as a kid, so this was really a cheery sight! The braid is really nice and I like that it would mesh well with a jumble of other bracelets in the summertime.

Dirigible Plum Leaf Print

Dirigible Plum Leaf Print - Listed Value $12

The Dirigible Plum is a kind of produce unique to the Wizarding World, and Luna has been known to wear a pair of fake ones as earrings! I love that this is printed on black paper - it gives the design a little bit of an edge, and makes it really visually unique. I also love the teeny tiny leaf veins within the shapes that create the overall design - so creative. It reminds me of a biology project I did in ninth grade biology with leaf rubbings...only this is much better.

Luna Magnetic Magnet

Luna Magnetic Magnet - Listed Value $3.50

Gahh! Just when I think I’ve seen everything in the realm of bookmarks, I’m proven wrong with the most adorable thing possible. I love cartoonified characters, and the art on this is just so sweet. I love that the magnets keep it place in the book itself - as I’ve said before, I usually carry a book in my purse, and this magnet seems like it wouldn’t budge from its page if it was jostled around a bit.

Verdict: Is it too intense to say these boxes make my heart sing with joy? This box is the actual best, and this particular month was just so charming. As always, the items were so thoughtful, and clearly chosen by people who love Harry Potter as much as I do. I LOVED receiving all things Luna. I’m completely obsessed with bath bombs, so that was a perfect item for me, I loved the candle and the beautiful paper doll, and the overall theme was beautifully executed. Luna is such a wonderful character in the books, and this box felt like the best love letter to her. Just like last month, I can’t WAIT for the next Accio! box!

No – Luna’s earrings are radishes, not dirigible plums.

Jamie

I remember them initially being described as looking like radishes. When the trio visits Luna’s house in DH, Harry takes note that the dirigible plums bear a striking resemblance to Luna’s earrings. From that I’ve always taken it to mean she had mini dirigible plum earrings.

Amber

You’re both correct. The earrings were actually radishes, but they were referenced in the books as Jamie describes.

Those paper dolls speak to me on a spiritual level. I hope something from this box shows up on swaps!
