GQ Best Stuff Box Winter 2018 Review

The first delivery from GQ featured 9 items with some sporty earbuds as the hero item.

You'll get information on each product in the box on this sheet - including a listed value.

JLab Epic Sport Wireless Earbuds - Value $100

One thing to quickly note- these are the Epic Sport line and not the Epic2 line as listed on the information sheet - either way, the value is the same.

These are meant to be a minimal earbud that will stay in place while you're active.

The earbuds fit into your ear while the little harness wraps around your ear. I actually found the piece that wraps around your ear to be a bit of a mismatch for my ear, and caused it to pull the earbud out from time to time - there really isn't much you can do to fix that either - I was hoping it was a bit bendable, but it is not.

You'll get a number of accessories to charge and change the size of your earbuds.

And a case to take it on-the-go. Soundwise, it was so-so - not the best, but not the worst I've tested.

Nice Laundry Tech Varsity Crew Socks - Value $8.33 for one pair

Next, you'll get one pair of socks from Nice Laundry.

While these are on the basic side graphically, they are super comfortable - and a great price for a 6-pack. Typically, I see pairs of socks like this retail around $12 a pair - so the $50 6-pack is a decent deal!

Jason Markk Essential Kit - Value $16

This is the third time we've received a product like this - first in 2015 in the GQ Quarterly Box, and more recently in my latest Men's Health Box.

Combine the solution with the brush to get your white shoes clean again - it's enough to do 100 pairs of shoes.

Gillette Fusion5 Razor - Value $10

The first of two razors from Gillette is the Fusion5 razor. It's just the razor - no refill or anything like that.

Gillette3 Razor - Value $8

This one was marked as a bonus on the information card - this Gillette razor also comes with a refill.

Baxter of California Bear Line-Up Shave Gel - Value $18

To go with your two new razors, you'll get some shaving gel from Baxter of California. I haven't shaved my beard fully down for about a decade, so I haven't tested this - but it uses aloe vera and eucalyptus oil to protect and soothe during and after shaving.

Rudy's Matte Pomade - Value $22

The next item is another self-care item, this time for your hair.

This is a paste with medium hold and a matte finish. If I did use hair gel of any kind, I think I'd always lean towards the matte finish.

Acqua di Parma Colonia Pura - Value $4.93 based on the 6-ounce price per ounce

You'll get this small bottle of cologne to try out. It's a classic Italian cologne with floral accents of jasmine.

Dove Men+Care Elements Dry Spray - Value $5.49

The final item is the item that I use on a daily basis and love! It's a simple Dove spray antiperspirant.

Verdict: My values bring this box to around $194 with the bonus razor - it's close to $200, but does fall short of that $200 value guarantee - and still a fantastic value for $50. The card values were very accurate with what was online, maybe they fell a bit short on the value of the cologne. Either way, I thought this was a decent box - with half of the value falling into the headphones, you'll have to really like or need those to get a good chunk of value out of this. I've grown to love the Men's Health Box which has a similar concept at a higher price point, so I'm still very curious about the next delivery.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? I believe so – they are still listing it as the current box. The FAQ also notes: "The specific box you receive will depend on the date you signed up and how that corresponds with the shipping deadlines of the quarterly boxes. You may contact customer service at: 1-800-999-6536 for the specifics."

I ended up canceling at I thought the box was OK but tired of their excuses and delays… Most recently their Spring 2018 box is due to be shipped sometime after June 7th, no idea how this is quarterly (Feb 2018 and June 2018). I’m just glad I didn’t pay for the 4 boxes in advance, good luck to everyone that did you should receive all 4 in 16months.

In precious MSA posts, the pre-sale and spoiler, MSA wrote minimum value $215, which was based on the GQ ad pictured.

Allure subscribers were sent a promo email, stating, “Get ready for $215 of….”

It was all over GQs landing page as well when placing orders through mid February.

I calculated value at $184 (I didn’t include the bonus…since it was supposed to be on top of the promised value.

Cologne, $4.80
Deodorant, $5.49
Shoe Kit, $16
Socks,$8.16
Shave Gel, $18
Earbuds, $100
Pomade, $22
Razor, $10

$184.45

This box was still a decent value but it’s appalling that GQ isn’t even acknowledging their overstatement and honoring their committment to subscribers.

Appreciate your review.

I ordered this box for my son as a gift and I was disappointed. The earbuds don’t sound good, the cologne is tiny, the socks are dingy and the razor is just so so. I really hope GQ steps it up next quarter or I will cancel.

Same here. It’s just an average box, but for $37.50 I have no complaints.

I sold the earbuds on ebay and it more than paid for the whole thing. I will swap the rest and look forward to the next box being a little bit more exciting.
