Despite a couple of OK items, I really enjoyed this quarter’s GQ Best Stuff Box. Subscribers will appreciate the full-sized items. It feels like we’re getting a product rather than paying for samples. I also like getting everything at once. It makes sense that GQ often sends vouchers for their main items so you can choose your size or color, but this is the second quarter in a row we’ve received everything on our doorstep at one time and I like it. I immediately liked the canvas backpack. It’s mature, useful, and I just can’t tell you how much I love nice, un-branded stuff. I was really impressed with the mega-mushroom treatment, pomade, and the face wash. The shampoo was nice and will get used, but was pretty ordinary. The pimple patches and anti-aging serum are great and useful, but for someone else. And the journal fell flat for me, because it didn’t. Overall, I really liked this box. However, I did find some of the pricing in the booklet to be a little off. In my simple searching I noticed several of the items could be found cheaper elsewhere. In the case of the backpack it was on sale for nearly half off. The mighty patches seemed strangely priced, since you could get more than twice the amount for less money on the official site. And the notebook’s price seemed just plain made up, since it cost less to have one made yourself. GQ isn’t to blame for another site’s sale, discontinued item, or whatnot, but it’s always a little bit of a bummer to find something you bought for cheaper somewhere else. Despite some misgivings, this is actually one of my favorite efforts from GQ Best Stuff Box. I think it’s the full-size products and the fact that I’m a sucker for bags, brand-less items, and things that smell good.
I thought this was a solid box from GQ Best Stuff. Most every item fit the winter theme well and there were a few more items rather than a box full of self-care products. I’m a big fan of the socks, candle, and notecards. I think I’ll use all three of them together and reach out to some friends. The beanie is great, but my head is a little big. So I wish the hat were too. The beard oil will obviously only be interesting to those with facial hair and even then it will likely be hit or miss. (I liked it.) I really dig the winter mask. I’ll definitely be using that up this winter to see how I enjoy it long-term. I think everyone will enjoy the face scrubber like I have. It’s not life changing or anything, but it’s a nice tool when you want that extra clean. I can take or leave the rejuvenating serum, but I did like the feel and smell of it. The gummies and parfum were just throw-in samples. Overall, I was very happy with this box. I liked the useful items and that everything came at once. No vouchers. Now if you’ll excuse me, those sleep gummies are kicking in and I need to go to bed.
Just after I complained about the last box feeling like a bunch of samples, GQ Best Stuff hits a home run with its “The Future of Grooming Box.” Thirteen amazing, full-size items. Granted this was an additional, pricier box, but it was exactly what I was talking about just a few short weeks ago. Each item was great and fill out the theme nicely. While the toothbrush would be my best item, because it is functional and something I can keep for a long time. Choosing that as my favorite seems like a cheat. So I’m going with The body wash, cologne, and hydrating cleanser. All these products really excited me and made me feel great using them. The body wash in particular is something I could see myself buying again. I thought the exfoliating towel and glass file (R.I.P.) were awesome. And, honestly, I liked just about everything. The eye cream and eye patches are lost on me, which feels like a shame, because the cream is so expensive. Overall, I thought GQ really knocked it out of the park with this box. I’d like to see GQ continue its limited edition boxes each year. Since I am not a big grooming guy, I’d like to see one geared toward items that make a man look and feel gentlemanly. Maybe a watch, socks, tie, wallet, etc.
