CHC Vintage is a vintage fashion subscription box. Choose a dress box or a t-shirt and jewelry box. For the dress box, you can also choose from categories like “90s Grunge,” “Bohemian,” “Vintage Prints,” “Romantic,” and “Minimalist.”  This is a review of the dress box, “90s Grunge” style (I was in high school and college in the 1990s). You can see some examples of what the CHC Vintage folks consider to belong to each category on the sign-up page.

There isn’t an information card with this subscription, since the items are vintage and selected according to your preferences. However, there was a nice card with a personalized note and some styling suggestions. (If you wonder why I never show you pictures using the styling suggestions, it’s more often than not because I don’t have the garments required. For example, I don’t own a single denim jacket, which is mentioned often in these cards. Although it would probably be nice to have one as it would be a good weight for both spring and fall where I live.)

This month’s dress is pretty simple. If I could change one thing, I would make the straps an inch or two shorter. But that is actually probably something I could do on my own.

This is really comfortable. I am having a hysterectomy at the end of the month and while I probably won’t be leaving the house often, when I do, I will totally wear this. It is not constricting in the abdomen at all and would totally conceal any post-surgical swelling. And maybe by the time I have recovered from surgery, I will have a brightly colored cardigan to wear with it.

Here is a closer view with a statement necklace (that I made using materials from Bargain Bead Box). This dress is great for statement jewelry and you can go any way you want with the color.

In the meantime, here are a few other views, including with my red shrug. I am not really a “neutrals” sort of person most of the time, so I always look for an opportunity to add a splash of color.

Verdict: I really like the dress I received from CHC Vintage this month. It fits well and is comfortable. It will eventually become work wear (which is something I asked for when I filled out my profile) and I like how you can change up the look just with a few accessories – very versatile.

What do you think of CHC Vintage? What style would you choose?

I swear, I read your reviews just as much to see all of your shoes as I do to see the new dresses and stuff you try on. I have a serious case of shoe envy!

Good luck with the surgery! I hope you recover quickly and are back on your shoes…err, feet… quickly.

If it helps, almost none of my shoes are expensive. I get a lot from places like Shoe Carnival or on Amazon. Or sometimes JustFab sales (although I can’t always handle their 4″ heels…).

Thank you for the great review. I subscribed to this because you always look so beautiful in the dresses. I hope your surgery goes well.

Thanks! I don’t really go for the sleeveless look too often, but I would be missing out on a lot of great clothes if I didn’t buy dresses just for lack of sleeves. So I have a whole bunch of shrugs in different colors. (You can buy them on Amazon for cheap and sizing is not as much of an issue for shrugs as it is for other clothes, even with Asian sizes, because you don’t have to fit it around your waist or rear end or anything.)

Ragan, lots of healing thoughts and a speedy recovery for after your hysterectomy, I am sure it will all go smoothly. Take care.

i’m extremely short-waisted, so I have to shorten straps on a regular basis. It’s very easy to do, The easiest way is just to fold the back of the straps down and slip-stitch it. If you want to get fancy, make a small seam at the top of the strap. Either way it can be done by hand, no need for a sewing machine, and only takes a few minutes.

Thanks for the suggestions. I can probably handle that, or just ask my mom to do it when she is here helping me out after the surgery. (I do have a sewing machine but I am not good with it.)
