The Walmart Beauty Box is a quarterly beauty sample subscription box from Walmart. They feature brands you will find at Walmart, plus coupons.

FYI – They ask for your birthday at sign up to customize the box based on age. There are two options you could receive based on age: Trendsetter (under 35) or Classic (35 and over).

Check out my post on the Trendsetter and Classic options to see how to get both options.

Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs in Medium - .75 oz Value $4

This leg makeup is temporary tanner that washes off with soap, water, and a washcloth, but otherwise is pretty water and transfer resistant. It has some serious staying power (which is a good thing), but that means it isn't as easy to blend as I would have preferred. So my advice is to start spreading it over your skin immediately before it sets! (Swatched below.)

Jergens Natural Glow Daily Moisturizer in Fair to Medium - 2 oz Value $2

I received this in the Spring Walmart Beauty Box as well, so I was a little disappointed to see it again! This was my go-to self-tanner in my highschool/college days, but I've since found self-tanners that are better suited to my skintone, so I'll pass this along to a friend or donate it.

Here are the swatches for the Sally Hansen legs:

On the top is the color as it comes out of the tube, and below is my best attempt at blending it out quickly!

walmart-beauty-box-summer-2016-trendsetter-shampoo

Schwarzkopf Essence Ultime Diamond Color & Radiance Conditioner - 50 ml Value $.85

Schwarzkopf Essence Ultime Diamond Color & Radiance Shampoo - 50 ml Value $.85

I'm always happy to see a matching shampoo and conditioner set in a subscription box - and these are good sample sizes too! (They should be good for 2 uses each.)

I've always avoided haircare products with sulfates since I color treat my hair and a hairstylist told me to do so, but a quite a few MSA readers have mentioned having no issues with sulfates an color-treated hair. So, use these if they work for you! (This shampoo does have sulfates in the ingredients, but it is also marked as color-safe.)

walmart-beauty-box-summer-2016-trendsetter-goody

Incoco Nail Art - Value $5

These are 12 strips made from real nail polish. (Instructions on how to apply them in pictures below.)

Goody Slide Proof 8 Soft Touch Silicone Elastics - Value $3.50

I've received these before in Target Beauty Boxes and I LOVE them! The little silicone nubs do a great job of holding your hair in place without sticking. These are my go-to hair piece for workouts I was about to buy more so this is perfect timing!

Here is more info on how to apply the Incoco Nail Art Strips:

walmart-beauty-box-summer-2016-trendsetter-coconut

In the box you get 12 strips and a mini file:

walmart-beauty-box-summer-2016-trendsetter-nail-wraps

You'll remove the clear cover from the strip, then peel off the polish and apply it to your nail. It will be longer than your nail, so you press it against the nail with the rest hanging over:

walmart-beauty-box-summer-2016-trendsetter-fold

Then you just file off the excess part of the strip:

walmart-beauty-box-summer-2016-trendsetter-incoco

These were pretty easy to apply (about 3 minutes for one hand), and they stay on well, too. (Since this is a nail polish strip and not a sticker, you'll need nail polish remover to take them off.)

walmart-beauty-box-summer-2016-trendsetter-aveeno

Truly Radiant Clean & Fresh Clean Mint - .9 oz Value $.75

Toothpaste is one of those items I'm always happy to get a in subscription box. These sizes are great for travel or donations.

Aveeno Skin Relief Gentle Scent Body Wash - 1 oz Value $.60

The scent is Nourishing Coconut, and it is described to be as gentle as fragrance-free. I think the scent is very subtle, and the formulas feel gentle, so they’ve succeeded in my book!

Verdict: I am happy with my Summer Trendsetter Walmart Beauty Box. The value comes out to about $17.50, which is great for a $5 beauty box, and I'll use almost everything in this box. What do you think of the Summer Walmart Beauty Box? Did you get the Classic or Trendsetter box?

Is there a review for the classic box?

When does the fall box ship?

Reply ButtonReply

Jill

The fall box starts shipping the second week of September, according to the Walmart Beauty Box website.

Jill

This should be a trip and a half LOL!!! I am an ALLURE BB subscriber and I love that subscription. Out of curiosity, I signed up for Walmart. $5 shipping only…so I can’t possibly be disappointed, these samples seem very practical. So signing up this late in the season will be interesting, to say the least! WM sent my summer box 2 days ago (9/1)…summer’s almost over and the Fall box will be released very soon. Hmmmm….wonder what I will get.

Jill

Very happy w/ this Summer box….9 samples….very nice for a $5 quarterly subscription.

tinsley330

I received my box today. I knew there would be products I wouldn’t be able to use because you can’t customize your box. But for $5, it’s worth the risk. In my box was the Incoco nail wraps (different style), aussie hairspray, Sally Hansen airbrush legs, Degree motion sense deodorant, Simple micellar cleaning water, Revitalift re-volumizing serum & re-volumizing cream, ecoTools makeup brush cleansing cloths, Caress body wash, and Aveeno restorative night cream. I won’t use a lot of my samples but I’m content for the price.

I received my first box today…same exact Classic configuration as tinsley330. Very satisfied w/ this $5 box. Looking forward to the Fall box.

Got my box today and very dissappointed – got the tan product but not sunsceen (I live in Florida what do I need fake tan for?) Also got Full-size Degree solid a triple fold card with shampoo sample and nail stickers (crazy pattern) and a small caress and the hairspray. totally not worth 5 bucks

MrsDaisy

I got this exact same box. I am very happy with it. The coconut nail art was the price of the box alone so everything else was a bonus. I can not use the leg makeup though because I have fair skin and it is way too dark. The goody elastics will be given to my niece because my hair is too short now. I am still very happy with this box. This was my first one and I am looking forward to my next.

I was so lucky that I didn’t even get mine and I probably never will. It was signed into my apartments, so it got here, and it was never signed out, but there is no package. I actually got this because my Mother and I are so low on all beauty products I was hoping to get a good deal on some stuff we might need (which is everything.) Unfortunately, since I’ve already contacted Walmart and their liability is fulfilled when it is accepted at the end point (my front desk) they cannot/will not replace it. Neither will my apartments. Big bummer and a waste of our money. :/

I just got my classic box today. This is only my second box and while it’s a little better than the first, I feel that is missing something. I got: Pantene hairspray, banana boat sunscreen, jergens natural glow moisturizer, and a nivea in shower foil packet. I cancelled and opened a new subscription with my age adjusted to trendsetter.

Reply ButtonReply

Jessika

Do you know what age would be considered trendsetter and what age would be classic?

Reply ButtonReply

Linda

I got the classic box and it is probably worth $5, though pretty sure I wouldn’t have bought any of it: degree deodorant, pantene hair spray, Caresse…frangrance?, aveena and jergens natural glow , and the nivea foil pack……not keeping this as a sub, even at $5. I can always use moisturizer/body lotion, but for $5 I could have gotten a bigger bottle.

Reply ButtonReply

Dawn

This is the same box I received. Not terribly exciting, especially after reading reviews of past boxes, I was a bit disappointed. That being said, I will probably use everything in it except possibly the self tanner which I have never even wanted to try. Maybe though…..

Will keep this as a sub because it’s so cheap and I can always use trial sizes but was hoping for the burts bees lippie or shampoo and conditioner I hadn’t ever tried….

Leslie

This one was a bit of a disappointment . I received the classic box.
* Degree motion sense antiperspirant
*Caress body wash
*(yet another ) Jergens Natural Glow
* ( yet another ) Banana Boat spf 30 sunscreen
* Pantene Pro V hairspray

and a foil of burts bees BB cream in a color too dark for me
and a foil of Nivea in shower lotion

The Body wash will be fun to try , and eventually I may use the hair spray .

I would love to try some shampoos

Got my trendsetter box today..utter disappointment ?. It contained:
Degree deoderent- full size
Aveeno lotion- sample bottle
Jergens Natural Glow lotion- sample bottle
Caress Mystique Forever body wash-sample bottle
Pantene hairspray- sample bottle
Nivea In-shower lotion sample packet with $1 off coupon

Apparently I received ‘left over’ items.

Reply ButtonReply

I got the box with the Burt’s Bees lipstick, Vaseline intensive care advanced repair lotion, and the gold/black nail art.

Reply ButtonReply

Paige

Got mine today, not sure which, as I thought I was set up to receive both. It contained degree deodorant, brilliant brunette shampoo, Aveno body wash and lotion, Aussie hair spray (love this stuff), small simple micellar water sample, foil sample of Nivea in shower lotion which came with a $1.00 off coupon. Not terribly exciting & nothing full size, but I will use a lot of it. At least last time the toothpaste was full sized but for $5 I won’t complain. My boxes seem to follow a pattern of 5 larger items, mostly deluxe but sometime a full size item, with 1 or 2 tiny samples thrown in.

Reply ButtonReply

Sabrina

I received this same box, and frankly, I am happy with the items. I love Aveeno products and these are the perfect travel size. My hair changes – from dark blonde to pale brown (seasonal), so the Brunette Shampoo is welcome. I used to use John Fredia’s Blonde shampoo and loved it. I think that for the price, it is a good value – hey! I don’t have to buy deodorant for 6 months!!

Reply ButtonReply

Shar

I got the same. Really disappointed.

Reply ButtonReply

Tracy

I got the classic box yesterday and received:
Full size – Degree deodorant
Travel sizes – Pantene hairspray, Caress body wash, Banana Boat tanning lotion and Jergens Natural Glo
Foil packets – Burt Blee’s BB Cream and Nivea body lotion.

I have seen better boxes but I will use everything in it..

Reply ButtonReply

Ebony

I got Nivea foil packet body lotion, Vaseline intensive care 2 Oz, leg makeup .75 oz, essence shampoo and conditioner 1.7 oz, nail art gold, truly radiant tooth paste and the burts bees lipstick full size which retails for 8.99 so I am incredibly happy with this box!

Reply ButtonReply

Ebony

And the Nivea comes with a $1.00 off coupon

Reply ButtonReply

Kristin

Got the classic today and it was terrible! Got shaving cream, st Ives scrub, jergens fake tan in light, tiny aveno and carress body wash. Everything went up for swap except the body wash which I love. My trendsetter was so much better.

Reply ButtonReply

leeaimee88

I received the same stuff. Was very disappointed. The jergens, st ives, and aveeno have been in the last 3 boxes I got from walmart. So, as usual, I basically received 2 new samples to try. The value of this box isn’t worth much more than $5, and who wants to receive the same products every single time!! Cancelled my subscription.

Reply ButtonReply

Kim

I got the identical box, I have now discovered the trendesetter box is way better than the classic box. I will be unsubscribing to the classic, it is ok though for $5, I just do not need this much stuff.

Reply ButtonReply

Holly

Terrible!! I’m going to try to change my birthday and get the trendsetter. I feel like it’s all the same as the last box but even less somehow

Reply ButtonReply

ctmom1

OMG! I received the exact same box yesterday. Thought I was the only one that got that terrible box. Lol!

Reply ButtonReply

Christy

I received mine today and was very happy with it!. Instead of the Hair ties I got the full size Burts Bees Lipstick in Blush Basin. Also my nail strips were super cute!!, gold and black colors, I’m actually gonna wait for nails to grow out a little before I use them hehe.
The leg makeup thingy was a little dark but definitely makes your legs look smoother, something I’ve been interested to try.
I love these Walmart boxes and they are always worth the 5 bucks

Reply ButtonReply

Charlie

I am obsessed with this box. Only $5 and I’ve always loved every single one of my boxes. I’ve had a subscription since it started. My box always has twice the amount of items than I see posted on the reviews, and most of the items I use. The rest I give to coworkers. I think this box beats Targets every time.

Love it. Highly recommend the Trendsetter box (I am 27 years old for anyone interested).

Reply ButtonReply

Lily

I get half of what I see posted and if this trend continues with this latest box, I’m cancelling. I know it’s only $5 but it’s aggravating that some get a lot, some good enough, and some get the leftovers. At least Target is fair to all subscribers.

Reply ButtonReply

Kristina Snowden

I didn’t get the hairties but I did get a full size Burts Bees lipstick. Unfortunately, it was a casualty of our 100 degree weather. I could still apply it with a brush, though. I really like this Walmart box and I’m glad I kept the subscription after the last box was a bust.

Reply ButtonReply

Kimberli

I really wish Walmart would send boxes monthly. Even if they bumped the price up a few dollars. I haven’t received mine but I’ve not had a bad box from them yet.

I wonder if maybe the coupons can be sort of like “traced”. Like if you actually use the coupons they send better boxes since they know you are going out to buy more.

Reply ButtonReply

Abby

I was so pleased with my WMBB this time. It is just what I would love very month to be like. I got the classic box with deodorant (smells good and says it’s for working out), vaseline lotion, aveno lotion, hair bands, caress body wash, and foil packets of Nivea shower lotion and loreal hair products. I’ll use everything but the loreal and have been wanting to try the caress and nivea.

I know I already said it, but this is what I want from every month. Drugstore products that I want to try but not buy a large container of unless I really love it more than my usual.

Reply ButtonReply

Kimberli

I have beauty box 5 for the same reason. While I love the trendy high end stuff, I love to try brands I can pick up at while I shopping at Walgreens or the grocery store.

Reply ButtonReply

BONNY ADAMS

I received my Trendsetter box today. I received the nail wraps, shampoo and conditioner, toothpaste, leg makeup, Vaseline lotion, in shower lotion sample, and a gorgeous shade of Burt’s Bees lipstick. I’m happy with that box!

Reply ButtonReply

Liz Cadman

Sounds like a good one! I love the formula of that Burt’s Bees lipstick! (And the honeycomb packaging is cute, too!)

Reply ButtonReply

Christina

I got some of the same stuff no hair ties, different lotion, trendsetter box, but I got a full size Burt bees lipstick so I’m pretty happy

Reply ButtonReply

shadie

I did too! I just go my box today. Apparently they shipped them out in waves. The lipstick alone was worth more than what I paid for the box so everything else is a bonus. I think I am finally going to try the nail stickers. I have tons but I am kinda weary of actually putting them on.

Reply ButtonReply

Kathy

I did not get hair bands or leg makeup but got lotion and burtbees lipstick. Took it to Walmart and got a better shade.

Reply ButtonReply

Gabriela

Just checked my mail. I got this exact same box, including the same pattern of nail art. It’s a “just ok” box I guess.
