This was both fascinating and really helpful!

I hadn’t bothered to list the Becca palette because, last I checked, there were a lot of them listed and I doubted I would get requests for it.

So upon seeing this post, I listed it and not 15 minutes later I got a request (from somebody who actually had things listed that Is following) and made a nice swap! Yay!!

This is so fun Liz! Thanks and would love to see this every month just for fun. It’s amazing sometimes how a certain item will get a zillion swap requests

I have had over 100 requests for that tray, but not a lot in that range worth swapping for and swappers haven’t been interested in a bigger swap. I really want to swap it but it will be expensive to ship and I’m not swapping for junk! Similar is the necklace and the coasters.

I had the same issue with swapping my moscow mule mugs and MSC lavender oil (I think these were probably pretty poplular in Sept), I had put will not swap for samples and got 100’s of request from people who only had samples and nail polish. I was about to give up and remove the mugs when I finally got a good offer.

Caroline

i too have that issue. I have the tray ready to swap but not for nail polish. I need something that is close to RV and then I am trying to factor shipping 🙁 I may just remove as i feel bad turning down swaps for it but on this item i do want close to RV+ S&H. Am I being unrealistic?

You might be – I don’t know for sure. I know I bought one more of the trays on an eBay competitor site for $15 to give as part of my mother’s birthday gift. I redecorated her guest bedroom in those colors and need one tray for each of the bedside tables.

I have no idea WHY the tray was as inexpensive as it was – it was the exact same tray and was even listed as a “Pop Sugar Must Have”. Do remember though that everyone puts value on different things. I could not have cared less about the coasters (gave those to my sister), and if I hadn’t just redecorated my mother’s guest bedroom in complimentary colors, I would not have cared for the tray, either. I absolutely would have traded it for some Deborah Lippmann and Voodoo nail polish I want, maybe that NCLA Heart Attack polish I’ve never been able to snag, because those are the kinds of things *I* like and therefore value. You just have to find that one person who values the same types of items you do – or list it on eBay *and* then change it to a “sell” here in your swap profile.

Good luck!

Appears I’m not the only one who hasn’t been overly impressed with some of PopSugar’s choices lately…

Actually, most of the items above I don’t want and have swapped mine away or are in the Christmas “to be gifted” pile. If these seem so desirable, I’m happy as my recipients don’t know about my subs SHHHHH!!!! so they are going to think I paid retail value.
I have to say after all the conversation about the pillow case I am surprised it’s a most wanted
I personally love my coasters but I was also in dire need so I started using immediately Not sure I would have them if they hadn’t shown up on my doorstep

That is what surprises me too, a lot of these items people complained about I thought they wanted to swap to get rid of them for something better! I did get on the wait list to swap because I am happy to get rid of these items others find desirable. At least someone will like them.

Liz Marie

I really enjoyed seeing this post! Fun to see what everyone’s looking for 🙂

When do you think you will open up the Swap Waitlist? I’ve been on it for a very long time and have almost all of this lol!!!

Like a few other commenters, I have some of these items and am thinking I might try swapping since they’re just sitting around. How much are people sticklers for swapping dollar-for-dollar on exact retails values? I’m not sure I’m asking that right, but what I’m trying to say is I would be wiling to swap something a higher RV for something lower if it was something I really wanted (especially given inflated RVs). Is that the prevailing practice, or no?

Reply ButtonReply

Annie

It varies SO MUCH person to person. I, like you, tend not to worry too much about RV. If what I’m trading for is worth it to me, I don’t mind sending stuff with a higher retail value. There are plenty of people who don’t feel that way though, I have been asked if I have anything else not listed in the 2-3 dollar range so we could even out the swap….mind you this was a large swap and she was stressing that what she was sending me was worth 2-3 more than what I was sending her. Also, things in high demand can command swap values far above their RV, so don’t be surprised if you request something on this list and are asked for the world in return. Another factor is shipping, if someone knows try have to drop $10 on shipping they will probably ask you for an extra item or two. In the end, everyone approaches swaps differently and you are sure to find someone that you can work out a trade with that works for both of you (the counter-trade button is great for this, as is just sending a comment to the person explaining your thoughts). It really is a great community – happy swapping!

Even though it wasn’t my question – thank you for your comments. I just sent out my first item for swapping (I’m kinda really excited bc I didn’t know if I’d ever get the whole swapping thing down – I thought it would be more difficult but it was super easy so far)!
That would be somewhat annoying if someone is stressing over a couple bucks. Especially since some items prices are quite inflated. I swapped a backpack (originally $100+, but then marked down) that I got in a mystery box that just wasn’t my style for something that was RV$39. I’m getting something I really wanted for $12 (the price of the shipping). For me, its better than having an item around the house that I’ll never use.
Now I’m going to have to list a few more items that I know I won’t use – so exciting!

And Liz – I really like this post – very interesting to see what people are wanting 🙂

AmyM

Thank you, Annie! Very helpful.

Thanks for posting this! Please keep it going.

This encouraged me to finally sign up for the swap list- I would love to get that Deepa Gurani necklace off my hands.

Just signed up for the Swap Waitlist. Always thought it would be too much trouble to swap. But I have three of these most wanted items hanging around my house that I don’t want. Had no idea people wanted them so much!

Reply ButtonReply

Caroline

Hmm yes lots of higher RV. I wonder what the most swapped are.
I have a few higher RV and I ended up taking a few down as hard to make an agreeable match for both parties and sometimes the high RV also means high shipping. For example, a throw would be $$$ to ship. Anyone have an idea how to balance the cost in a swap if say you swapped a throw for a necklace?

Sylvia

When a swap seems like it’s going to be really out of whack, I tend to pick something I know someone else will like. So let’s say someone wanted all of my “vintage” Julep doubles or some other insanely heavy swap, but they only had a couple of items I wanted and they were rather light. I would not just consider picking up gifts for my friends and family from their swap offerings, but also check the “ISO” or “followed” lists of some of the MSA swappers I follow, compare them with items available to me in the swap I have in progress and pick up any of ‘their’ stuff as well. That’s a great way for me to pick up things that I already know I can swap for stuff I really do want – or at least better my chances.

Some folks are uncomfortable with what they view as ‘one-sided’ swaps no matter which end of it they feel that they’re on, so even though I don’t pay RV too much mind, I do try and keep that some people really need things to be ‘even’ in mind – and then try and work it so it is advantageous to both of us.

I’m having a very tired, not-all-here kinda day, so I hope that made sense. lol!

The throw would be about $10-$11 to ship priority flay rate.

Very interesting! Thank you!

Newbie here. Thanks so much for this info. I actually have many of these items just sitting around and your post encouraged me to join the swap waitlist. Appreciate all you do to feed our box addiction!

Man… If there was ever a box I regret not getting, it would be the PSMH fall box. This reminds me of my mistake. Ha *sniff*

This is probably a dumb question( I’m a newbie in the subscription box world) but does this mean that these are the items people want? I have the pillow case, bracelet and book that i don’t really want but i don’t really understand how the”swap” works.

Liz Cadman

Yes – these are the most wanted/requested items from October. If you want to join the swap site, you can sign up here: https://swap.mysubscriptionaddiction.com/

Really? I thought these were items people wanted to get rid of! Wow I have tons of this stuff sitting around I thought everyone felt the same way about them that I did LOL.

michelle.chesney24

Is there instructions on what to do? Do i pay for the shipping if someone wants what i have? How do i know what they will send me….I’m so confused….all i know is i have boxes full of this stuff(i have become addicted to this website and ordering these boxes)….haha

...

That’s really interesting! Especially as most of the items being swapped are cosmetics/beauty items, but the ones requested are – with a few notable exceptions – non-beauty items. Not surprising to see the last PS LE and Rachel Zoe box items in the mix.

I love this!

Liz, Thank you so much for posting the most popular swaps. It would be great if every item had the number of swaps next to it so everyone could see. It was interesting that the most swapped were the more expensive items. I would love it if this was a monthly post, great idea!

Reply ButtonReply

Liz Cadman

Hopefully, this makes sense – these items are the most requested items for October – but not necessarily the most swapped items. (For example, for every time an item is swapped it has been requested 30X times).

Rachel

I would love to see a list of most swapped! Thanks for compiling this- I’d love to see this and any other list every other month!
