burke-decor-home-sept-2015-

Burke Decor recently launched a subscription box service. They offer two different options: A Spa Box, or a Whole Home Box. (If you go with the Spa Box, you can pick from Cool + Fresh, Warm + Earthy and Floral + Fruit).

I love the idea of home decor subscription boxes, and I wish there were more of them, so I immediately signed up for the Whole Home Box.

My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

The Subscription Box: Burke Decor Box

The Cost: $45 for Spa Box, $55 for a Home Box (shipping is $6)

The Products: A selection of 3 to 4 of our editors’ favorite products. Boxes are curated to your spa profile. Choose from Cool + Fresh, Warm + Earthy and Floral + Fruit.  If you don’t want a spa-specific box, try our Whole Home Burke Box, featuring an assortment of of the moment home accouterments.

This box comes with a sheet detailing all the items included. This month the theme is signature pieces for your nightstand.

burke-decor-home-sept-2015-carafe

Canvas Home Bedside Carafe - Value $18

I love the super simple design of this carafe. Here it is together:

burke-decor-home-sept-2015-carafe-2

It's pretty thin/delicate glass, and they recommend hand washing it, but technically it is dishwasher safe! (FYI - the info sheet lists the value as $24 for this, but I found it retailing for $18 many places, so that's why I have a lower value listed).

burke-decor-home-sept-2015-dish

Canvas Home Dauville Platinum Dish - Value $17.50

This is another Canvas Home item that has an incorrect price on the info sheet. (Listed on the sheet as a $25 value). If someone who didn't know me looked at my coffee table right now, they might think I have a Canvas platinum pottery collection - but no, I just love subscription boxes! (I have the matching mini bowl and coasters thanks to POPSUGAR).

burke-decor-home-sept-2015-frame

Vagabond Antique White/Ivory Bone Striped Frame - Value $32 (Found on this site for $15)

This frame measures 3X4" and is perfect for a nightstand. Here it is in my hand to give a better sense of scale:

burke-decor-home-sept-2015-flower

Lotus Capiz Shell Tea Light Candle Holder - Value $17

I like gold details in jewelry and home accents, so this works for me!

burke-decor-home-sept-2015-lotion

Apotheke Rosemary Mint Lotion - Value $22

This is my favorite item in the box! And I wasn't thinking there would be any bath/body products in a home box. (I guess it works for the theme, though). This is made with all natural and plant-based ingredients, and the scent is super minty!

Verdict: This box was OK for me. I like their theme idea, but when I opened up the box, it just wasn't as exciting as the August box. I guess with this box I'm OK with getting fewer items if they have a higher value/more wow factor. The value of this box is about $90. (That's using the prices I found, not the prices listed on the sheet).

I'll use every single item in this box, so I'm not disappointed in this box - I'm just not as excited about it as I was last month. What do you think of the September Burke Decor Box?

Has anyone ordered from their actual site? I ordered Sept 20th and i just TODAY Oct 21 got shipping notice. Is this normal? is their sub box on time or runs late? Just curious

I ordered from their actual site before. My order shipped within a couple of days. I did notice that some items said that there will be a 4-5 week lead time.

I last ordered the subscription boxes in August. My Spa box arrived on September 9 instead of the end of August. Burke Decor and I broke up because I never received the scents described for the Cool & Refresh spa box. The other two boxes do not have scent issues.

Alas, I managed to drop my beautiful carafe during the unboxing (see When Tragedy Strikes on the forum). Forum members suggested I reach out to Burke Decor and ask if I could purchase a replacement carafe. Sub boxes will often try to help you if you damage an item as I did. I had not thought of that. I did email the company but sadly (sighs dramatically) I have had zero response. The carafe is lovely and would be perfect for the guest bedroom. If anyone at Burke Decor is patrolling this site . . .

I didn’t hear back from them the first time I emailed them about the cracked glass in the frame, so I emailed them again and heard back right away. They were extremely helpful, and I already have my replacement frame! I would try them again, maybe they are having email issues?

I haven’t even received my first box yet and I’m a bit disappointed.

Got an email saying it was shipped on the 30th, USPS says it was picked up on the 1st. Here it is the 6th and I still don’t have my box. Shouldn’t it be the October box if you they don’t even ship it out until the next month?

Anyway, the spoilers for this month look like things you’d pick up at Ross or Homegoods. The previous boxes I’ve seen looked amazing and that’s why I signed up. I may have made a bad choice.

I really like the bone frame because it fits easily with any decor, although it’d be nice if it were a bit larger (the photo window is pretty tiny). I was looking forward to getting the lotus tea light candle holder in the color pictured, but I ended up getting it in a bright pink/red color, which won’t work for me anywhere in my house! I noticed this pink color is not sold on their website, so I wonder if they ran out of what they usually sell and had to buy some other colors to ship out.

I’d like to think these are luxury items, but really they’re all just wholesale and you can find this stuff elsewhere. Also, each box always seems to have something imperfect. This time it’s the Dauville pebble dish and its dirty edges (can be seen in photo above).

Oftentimes, this subscription box feels like a higher end version of an Oriental Trading Company novelty grab bag. $50 is the priciest box I get, and it just sucks when some of the items are a horrible color or have a defect, but I’ll try a few more and hope it evens out! I still always like at least a couple of the items I get.

Disappointed!
This was a box of cheap junk! I’m canceling this subscription.
So glad to be able to cancel after one month! Waste of $$$

It seems like this box is alternating Super Popular boxes with Super Disappointing boxes. At least, that’s the impression I get from the comments. My feelings aren’t always in line with the consensus, although I think this is my least favorite box so far.

But if the pattern holds, next month should be awesome!

I tried this box out thinking I would be receiving the contents from the previous box. Alas, I was sent this box. I prescribed the first week of September so it was my mistake to think I would get August’s box. However, I did contact them twice concerning when I should expect to receive my shipment. The first person I communicated with told me to expect to receive my box sometime during the 3d week of September. I contacted Burke Decor once again on the 26th to see when I should expect my box to be shipped out. I was treated very rudely by the person who interacted with me online. I received notice on October 1st that the September box was shipping out. I received it today…kudos for their quick shipping. I was extremely disappointed. This box contains chotchkes that I could by at Pier 1, World Market, or Other Decor Outlets stores. The carafe I have seen at Ross for less than $5 and the tea light is just cheap and bright pink. Not something I would use. The Platinum piece is lovely but not what I expected. The picture frame is a meh as I have also seen better at other stores. The Rosemary and Mint container was also a meh.
As for the packaging itself everything is well packaged in a bigger box. I am glad I only purchased a box to try and not several months.Don’t waste your money as I did thinking this would be a great subscription. Nothing in this box is the worth the price they charged for it. So so disappointed.

I only wish I got that frame. They sent the wrong one entirely, all metal and faux pearls, and it was damaged, too. I’ve written to them asking if I could get the right one.

Shuus

I got the same frame and it was damaged. I also emailed asking for a replacement. Fingers crossed.

For me as well, the glass has a big crack. I emailed them on Sunday and haven’t heard back. Has anyone heard back?

I’m more interested in the spa box than the whole home box. I would love to see a review of one of those sometime. I wonder is it all bathroom decor, or products, or what? Also, I was going to try the cool and fresh box but now that we are in Autumn I was thinking of warm and earthly.

Good news- Ragan will be reviewing the Spa box starting with the September one! 🙂

Ragan

I know there’s a lot of interest in that one on the forums too. I will try to get that one put together as soon as my first box arrives. (I’m out of town for a wedding at the moment but there are a lot of “mysteries” in my USPS dashboard and I hope the spa box is one of them!)

My flower tealight holder is bright pink, which I’m not really loving. In fact, this box is pretty disappointing all around for me. I think I’ll give it one more month and probably cancel.

The pink sounds awesome! I’d buy it from you if your selling!

I think everything fits the theme, but I don’t know that I feel the value is there. I’ve seen tealight candle holders and frames similar to those at Pier 1 for much less. I also have a similar carafe with cup hat I keep on my nightstand that was I think $10 or less (wish I could remember where I got it – bed bath and beyond maybe?). The dish is super cute and I can’t say how I feel about the lotion, but it does seem luxurious!

I’ve seen those lotus candle holders as well. They are frequently at Marshall’s for way less.

skipped after a I had a bad quality issue with an order. Customer service was great but was not happy with order. Now seeing the box i am very happy i didn’t buy. The value is not there.

I think this box looks great, I love the candle holder and carafe.

My frame is different but I think I like yours better. Mine is round and more lace pattern. But I was underwhelmed with the entire box but I wasn’t excited with the blanket either.

Madewell has those canvas dauville on clearance for $10. they usually have 30% off additional coupons so anyone who wants them can get them for $7 shipped (note that it’s final sale)

Tamara

I LOVE the Dauville line, so I’m pretty happy with that. And that frame looks like it will match a box we just bought at Off Saks 5th Ave, so that’s neat too.

It seems like people go nuts for a box if there’s a throw in it, like last month. What if the deal with the throws? Personally, I have several now and don’t really feel like I need more.

Reply ButtonReply

chris

I sometimes give throws or blankets as gifts. They have been universally well-received so far.

Reply ButtonReply

Zerlyn

I wonder the same too! I have 4 throw from boxes and only use 1 at any one time. Just don’t feel the same excitement anymore.

This box does look great, although I don’t keep water by the night stand. I can’t imagine an accidental oops when water fall over the carpet. I do like the bowl, that is cute!
