kidpik - 2021 In Review

kidpik in 2021

A look back at this past year and our hopes for 2022.

kidpik is the highly rated kid's clothing subscription box that will deliver your child up to seven articles of clothing including shoes and accessories allowing for three mix-and-match outfits. The clothing is all the kidpik brand name and is specially made to be soft and comfortable for kids.

Before signing up for your first box, kidpik will have you take a short profile quiz about your child's likes, dislikes, and sizing issues. Questions such as which colors and prints they prefer and whether or not they need adjustable waist bands are just a few of the questions in the approximately 5-minute style profile quiz.

As your child grows and their preferences change, you have the opportunity to go in and update their profile to ensure they always get the best possible selections in their box.

kidpik subscriptions are available on a 4-week, 6-week, or 12-week schedule and you can skip, pause, or adjust your subscription boxes at anytime.

The Subscription Box: kidpik

The Cost: Varies dependending on which articles of clothing you keep. Average price most subscribers pay for their kidpik boxes is approximately $98, which includes the "keep all" 30% discount. (If you love everything and decide to keep it all, a 30% discount will be applied to the entire box.)

There is also a $20 styling fee per box that will be credited towards any pieces of clothing you decide to keep. If you decide to return the entire box, you will lose the $20 styling fee, unless it is your first box.

The Products: Up to seven pieces of kid's stylish, comfortable, and durable(!) clothing that will make up to three mix-and-match outfits including shoes and accessories.

Sizes: kidpik is available for kids ranging in size from 2T-16. Shoe sizes are from 7 toddler to 6 youth.

Ships to: The 48 contiguous United States as well as military addresses.

kidpik's Successes in 2021

kidpik has certainly come a long way since it started in 2017, and it seems they won't be slowing down anytime soon. This past April, kidpik celebrated both their five year anniversary and the celebration of one million boxes shipped. They also launched their popular subscription boxes for toddlers with both 2T and 3T sizing. Most recently, kidpik launched an $18 million IPO , which could mean an expansion is in the very near future.

Why We Love kidpik

Value

kidpik uses their own brand name items for each personalized box and has stated that the emphasis on their clothing is on both comfort and durability. My family personally subscribes to this box and can attest that (so far), the clothing has stood up to my boys rough and tumble lifestyle.

They also offer a huge 30% discount if you decide to keep the entire box. There have been a few occasions where one of our kids didn't like something, but it actually made more sense to keep it due to the 30% discount. In fact, one adorable peach-colored jacket was gifted to our friend's daughter, which ended up being almost free because of the discount.

The boxes tend to run about $100 (kidpik's site says the average is $98) if you keep the entire selection. Each shipment has seven pieces of clothing including accessories and shoes that can make three different outfits. For us, $100 is a steal considering my kids will get a good half year's worth of wear out of them.

Personalization

Each kidpik box will be addressed directly to your child with their clothing wrapped as a gift. Their name is also included inside the box making it personalized and special just for them. This is a small, but thoughtful touch that both my kids and apparently many other's love!

Donations

If you decide that you don't want a particular piece of clothing or it just doesn't fit your child quite right, you always have the option to return it. However, kidpik also has a great program called kidpik Cares, where you can donate an item in your box and kidpik will also match that item through their donor matching program. Additionally, if you decide to donate any unwanted items instead of return them, you will also still receive your 30% box discount.

Easy to Gift

kidpik makes a great gift for parents or grandparents to give to the kids and grandchildren. Not only are the kid's super excited each season to get their clothing, but kidpik also makes it incredibly easy. You can either sign up for a subscription or purchase and a one-off box that is already pre-styled. If nothing is catching your eye in those boxes, you can also just head to their store and purchase single items as well.

Our Hopes for kidpik in 2022

More Marketplace Koins Options

This past year kidpik launched their Koins marketplace rewards program. Throughout the year, your child can earn koins that can be redeemed at anytime towards free articles of clothing. Rewards can be achieved by keeping an entire box, leaving a review on their website, or when it's your child's birthday.

The program sounds wonderful, however it has been almost impossible for us to redeem our koins. For the majority of the year, the koins marketplace was only open for girls, which obviously makes it hard for a ton of parents who have boys. The marketplace for boys was launched this past fall, but trying to redeem the koins as been nearly impossible "due to high demand".

As this is a new program, we want to give kidpik the benefit of the doubt that the kinks will be worked out and available for everyone in 2022.

Adjustments to Styling Fee

In August of this past year, they also introduced their $20 styling fee. Previously, it had been entirely free to have a box sent to you for your kid's to try on. Obviously, shipping and products in general have skyrocketed, so we can't fault kidpik too much here. However, as the styling fee is more than an article of clothing (average price $14), this means at least two pieces of clothing need to be kept in order to make up for the $20 fee.

As one of our editors, Samantha, mentions in her article, it would be great if this fee rolled over to upcoming shipments. Another option would also be to lower the fee so that it more accurately matched a single article of clothing.

Our Favorite "Piks" from kidpik This Past Year

Timeless Plaid Shirt - $22.50 (currently on sale for $15.75)

Just as the title says, it’s timeless! The shirt was soft, the right size, and looked great on my son (if I may say so myself!). He immediately wanted to try it on with the Big City Tee underneath to add a pop of color to his outfit. I love that he thought to do this and was excited to mix and match the clothes.

River Floral Dress - $22.50 (currently on sale for $15.75)

This was my daughter's absolute favorite item in the box. Lightweight, flowy, and perfect for the transition from summer to fall. She paired these with the tassle pull booties and was definitely stylin’!

Big City Tee

This was my son's immediate favorite. He loved the colors as well as the city scene on the shirt. It was also incredibly soft, which was great because he won’t wear anything that has a rougher texture.

Side Studded Shimmer Skirt - $22.50 (currently on sale for $15.75)

I won’t lie... I was wishing this came in my size. The slight shimmer is perfect for a girl who still wants the girly clothes, but is getting older and wants them to be a bit more stylish. The studs on the side were a great added detail and really dressed it up. This skirt could easily be paired with pretty much anything in her closet!

We can't wait to see what 2022 brings for kidpik and if they introduce any new features to their subscription boxes. They are constantly making our reader's choice awards list, so we will be sure to update you all as anything new happens!

In a nutshell? I'm a bit of a walking contradiction!

I love traveling the world and stepping out of my comfort zone, but I can also be a complete introvert and will be totally happy hanging out at home with my family for days on end. I enjoy working out and going for runs or HIIT classes at the gym, but I also have no problem binging on a bag of cheetos and a glass of wine (which pairs surprisingly well together!). I love how I look dressed up and ready to hit the town, but am much more comfortable in a pair of sweats while watching The Mandolorian with my husband and two little boys. I love trying exotic foods and the different spices and textures that come with it, but my all-time-favorite meal is a juicy cheeseburger with fries.

So, maybe I should just call myself well-rounded!? Whatever it is, I keep an open mind about everything and am always on the hunt for a new and exciting adventure!

I’m a grandma who has gifted many boxes to my three granddaughters and now my youngest grandson. The clothes hold up very well and my granddaughters pass them down to the next in line and we’ve never had an issue. They’re very trendy and comfortable. My grandkids say they’re their favorites!!
