I was thrilled to see that my latest shipment from The Gourmet Chocolate of the Month Club featured the following selections of dark chocolate crafted by Ethereal Confections:
- Workin' Hard For The Honey (Apricot Honey Marigold 66% Cacao Dark Chocolate)
- Cashew Bark (66% Cacao Dark Chocolate)
- Oh My Ganache (Handmade Truffles)
- Floral Chocolates (66% Cacao Dark Chocolate)
At first glance, my guess was that either Workin' Hard For The Honey or Oh My Ganache would be my favorite hands down...But I was in for a surprise!
Workin' Hard For The Honey
Based on the packaging, I assumed this bar would be relatively creamy and sweet. After all, doesn't the honey indicate a somewhat soft and gooey nature?
But I was mistaken (and not necessarily in a bad way). The honey was actually somewhat subtle and scattered throughout, with the apricot pieces and strands of Marigold petals stealing the spotlight instead. And in terms of texture and consistency, this bar was slender and slightly tougher than its name suggested.
I appreciated the unique combination of ingredients this bar had to offer. After all, isn't that part of the thrill of chocolate clubs rather than shopping in store?
Cashew Bark
Most of the barks I've tried throughout my life have been heavy on the chocolate and relatively light on the crunch. But not this one!
Its chocolate was thick and buttery, not brittle, and the generous portion of cashews provided a consistent crunch. This ended up being one of my favorite chocolates to date, and I could see myself snacking on this regularly.
Oh My Ganache
Ok, so don't judge this chocolate by its appearance alone.
Yes, the Florida heat got to it before I could...but believe me when I say its taste absolutely made up for its damaged aesthetic.
These truffles were encapsulated by a dark chocolate shell and contained a creamy center infused with hints of raspberry and vanilla. These bite-sized treats went from dark and mouthy to tart and sweet within a matter of moments, making them simply addictive.
Floral Chocolates
The final treats from this month's box were these adorable floral chocolates.
I'll admit that their taste was slightly underwhelming compared to the previous options, but that didn't stop my toddlers from devouring them within mere minutes. If you're in the mood for general dark chocolates to snack on, these do the job just fine.
The Verdict
This month, my favorite selection by The Gourmet Chocolate of the Month Club was a tie between Oh My Ganache truffles and the Cashew Bark. The tart raspberry center of the truffles combined with the rich dark chocolate shell was a pairing out of this world, whereas the thick, buttery bark provided an incredibly filling treat with plenty left over to share. And while I probably wouldn't repeat the floral chocolates or the apricot honey marigold bar, they provided their own unique appeal.
