First Impressions

April is here—and the snow is flying! At first, I thought it was an April Fools’ joke, but unfortunately, it’s not. We’re expecting about eight inches of snow this weekend, and I have to admit, I’m pretty bummed about it.
That said, we’ll be spending most of the long weekend indoors, which means treats are a must! Luckily, this month’s TokyoTreat box arrived at the perfect time. Packed with thirteen unique snacks straight from Japan, it was such a joy to open.
With more than a few TokyoTreat boxes under my belt, I can confidently say it’s one of the most exciting subscription boxes I’ve ever unboxed—I’m definitely a fan!
Keep reading to see all the delicious discoveries inside.
What's Inside the Box
To welcome us to TokyoTreat, we first received a cute polaroid type picture with a note from Ayumi, the TokyoTreat CEO. A sweet addition, this truly makes me feel like part of the family! ❤️
Along with more than a dozen tasty snacks, Tokyo Treat also includes a colorful magazine packed with snack information, cultural information, trivia, facts, and contests! While exact nutritional information isn't shared, (it is on the package, but unless you know how to read Japanese, you're probably out of luck), the pamphlet does include if a food contains a common allergen, what it might contain traces of, and if it is suitable for vegetarians. A great summary of this month's box, my boys loved reading through this guide!
Matcha Latte KitKats - Retail Value $6.49
We’ve been reviewing TokyoTreat for a while now, and one thing we can always count on is a big bag of fun-sized KitKat bars in a unique flavor each month! This time, we received a green tea and vanilla combo, creating an earthy, chocolatey blend.
The bright green color made them extra fun, though the boys weren’t too impressed with the matcha latte flavor. I’m not the biggest matcha fan myself, but I thought they were pretty good! That said, I have to admit—I’ve enjoyed some of the previous flavors a bit more.
Sakura Roll Cake
The next item we received featured a lovely sakura flavor. Sweet, soft, and surprisingly moist for a pre-packaged treat, it reminded me a bit of a rolled fruit snack. Made up of thin layers of cake, it had a delicate floral flavor that wasn’t overpowering—just light and easy to enjoy.
My kids and I really loved this one, especially after the bold matcha flavor of the KitKat bars!
Night Blossoms Rice Cracker Mix
I’ll be honest—I do enjoy rice crackers, but I usually prefer sticking to one flavor at a time. This beautifully floral package includes six different varieties, ranging from matcha and sakura to brown sugar cinnamon, shrimp, salt, and peanut.
That’s a bit too much variety for me in a single snack, so while I didn’t love them all together, I did enjoy trying them individually. With their cute colors, textures, and shapes, they were definitely fun to look at—but my kids also felt it was a bit too much to have in one bag.
Crunky Caramel White Chocolate Bar
Candy bars are always a treat that my kids and I appreciate receiving, and this one was completely new to us. It had a little bit of everything—white chocolate, caramel, and crunchy bits—all combined into one delicious bar.
It wasn’t overly sweet, and the flavors blended together into a smooth, chocolatey treat that left us wanting more. The bar itself was generously sized, with segments that made it easy to break apart and share. It would have been a fun addition to something like a s’more—but we enjoyed it a little too quickly to save any for later!
Mini Sakura Bread
The next snack we received was a pretty little loaf of sakura bread. This petite treat had a cookie-like appearance but a denser, bread-like texture.
Infused with a sweet cherry blossom flavor, it featured a creamy, cinnamon-butter-like filling in the center that made it even more indulgent. With its soft pink color, it was unlike any bread we’ve tried before—but it was definitely a fun and unique experience!
Cherry Blossom Rice Cracker
If I’m being honest, rice crackers in the U.S. can be pretty boring. I’ve bought a few different versions for my kids, and they’ve often sat unopened in the cupboard until they eventually expired. Because of that, they weren’t convinced Japan could do it any better—but this one definitely changed their minds.
Right from the start, this rice cracker stood out. It was coated in large, crunchy sugar crystals and had a subtle plum flavor that created a perfect balance of sweet and slightly sour. It’s a combination that’s hard to beat! The kids loved it and now have a whole new appreciation for rice crackers.
Fried Ume Potato Sticks
Next up is another unique treat. Fried potato sticks aren’t anything new, but this sour plum flavor definitely is! Crunchy and salty with a tangy, fruity aftertaste, these were a fun twist on a familiar snack.
The flavor isn’t very strong at first, but it builds and becomes more noticeable as you keep eating. My kids were a bit on the fence with this one, but I thought they were pretty good overall.
Smoked Radish Rice Crackers
The next inclusion this month was a really good one. Moving away from the sweeter snacks, we tried a smoky radish-flavored rice cracker—and it was a pleasant surprise!
These had the crunch of a great chip, with a bold smoky flavor and just a hint of spice. Honestly, I never would have guessed they were radish-based, which made them even more fun to discover. They actually reminded me a lot of a BBQ chip, which is always a win in our house.
The kids absolutely loved them—definitely a surprise favorite!
Night Truffle Crackers
Next up was another savory treat. This time, we received a set of large crackers infused with truffle flakes. While I’m not usually a fan of mushrooms, I really enjoyed this truffle version in cracker form.
They were salty and crunchy with a subtle earthy flavor, giving them a more gourmet feel that was both satisfying and filling. The kids thought they were pretty decent as well—but they’re definitely ready to move on to more sweet snacks!
Shiruko Sakura Cookies
At first, this snack looks like it’s going to be a savory cracker—but it’s actually a cherry blossom and plum juice-flavored cookie. Thicker than a cracker, it has a similar texture but offers a truly unique flavor.
I could definitely taste the floral notes, but the tangy plum juice finish was the real highlight. It’s unlike anything I’ve ever tried before, and it ended up being a delightful sweet treat that perfectly balanced out the savory items in this box. The kids enjoyed them too and were surprised at how addictive they became after just one bite!
Grape & Soda Soft Candy
The next treat we received was definitely a kid favorite. This grape-and-soda soft candy had a texture similar to taffy. It started out very sweet, with the grape flavor coming through first, and as you chewed, a subtle soda flavor emerged with a gentle fizzy sensation.
The kids absolutely loved this candy stick and are hoping to get more in the future!
Seafood & Vegetable Soy Sauce Ramen
The next item we received was actually a lunch option! This month’s box included a package of Seafood & Vegetable Soy Sauce Ramen—a soy sauce–based, seafood treat. The photo on the package looks absolutely delicious, and preparation is simple: just bring water to a boil and add the noodles.
Instead of keeping this one for myself, I decided to save it for a student at school. Each month, I bring in the ramen from the box, and my students get so excited. It adds a little extra fun to their day—and, admittedly, it’s become a pretty effective motivator for getting some extra schoolwork done. Hey, you’ve got to do what you’ve got to do, right?
Mandarin Orange Jelly Bites
The final item we received was one of TokyoTreat’s Midnight Sakura Snack Saga treats. While the booklet didn’t provide any details about this particular snack, I was able to scan the QR code to learn more.
These gummies are made with mandarin oranges from Shizuoka Prefecture, the home of Mount Fuji! Chewy in texture with a sweet, tangy flavor, they were absolutely delicious—a perfect way to end an already fantastic box.
The Verdict
As you may know, I have a lot of experience reviewing snack boxes—and after several months of receiving TokyoTreat, I can honestly say this is an amazing subscription and our absolute favorite of all time! After browsing the pamphlet, tasting all the snacks, and checking out the extra online offers, my family was beyond impressed. This month’s curation was pretty heavy on the sakura sweet snacks, and I was okay with that! We were especially thrilled to receive the Sakura cake, chocolate bar, bread, rice crackers, and jellies, and enjoyed all of the new items! Overall, we were once again impressed by the variety and some of the best packaging we’ve seen in any snack box. We’re already looking forward to May’s box and have our fingers crossed for more chocolate and individually wrapped candy fun! Any guesses on next month’s theme? Comment below!

To Wrap Up:
Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes, you are able to sign up to receive this particular box until 5/15.
Value Breakdown: For $37.50 + $12.50 shipping, you're receiving 13 different Japanese snacks. At about $3.85 a pack, this is a bit pricier than some American snacks, but because it is shipping from Japan and creates an entire experience, it's unlikely you could order these snacks separately for cheaper.
