First Impressions

October is here and I am ready for the tricks and treats! After finally dragging my Halloween decor out from the basement, the October TokyoTreat box arrived to cap off a festive day! Packed with fourteen unique snacks straight from Japan, this fun-filled box was an absolute delight to open. With a bit of TokyoTreat experience under my belt, I can confidently say it’s one of the most exciting subscription boxes I’ve ever unboxed. I’m definitely a fan! Keep reading to see all the delicious discoveries inside.
What's Inside the Box
To welcome us to TokyoTreat, we first received a cute polaroid type picture with a note from Ayumi, the TokyoTreat CEO. A sweet addition, this truly makes me feel like part of the family! ❤️
Along with more than a dozen tasty snacks, Tokyo Treat also includes a colorful magazine packed with snack information, cultural information, trivia, facts, and contests! While exact nutritional information isn't shared, (it is on the package, but unless you know how to read Japanese, you're probably out of luck), the pamphlet does include if a food contains a common allergen, what it might contain traces of, and if it is suitable for vegetarians. A great summary of this month's box, my boys loved reading through this guide!
Apple Pie KitKats - Retail Value $9.90
One of my favorite things about the TokyoTreat box is that they always include a large bag of specialty KitKats. This month's flavor was perfectly in sync with the fall season—even the packaging featured cute little ghost clip art! Apple pie is definitely a fall favorite here in Minnesota, and these KitKats captured the warm cinnamon flavor of pie with an interesting apple twist. The white chocolate coating gave them a unique taste—not quite like traditional apple pie, but still reminiscent of it in a fun and creative way. One small downside: it's been unusually warm in Minnesota (around 80 degrees, which is pretty much unheard of this time of year), so our chocolates melted a bit. Although they hardened back into some funky shapes, the flavor wasn’t affected at all!
Creepy n' Crispy Corn Bites
The next item we received was a small pack of crispy corn bites. These uniquely shaped snacks were unlike any American snack we've tried, and my kids especially loved the fun tube shapes. Charlie even joked that he could make an edible chip bracelet—which I might have let him do, but we ate them way too fast! With a salty umami flavor, these crunchy bites hit the savory jackpot. Loved them!
Tabekko Trick-or-Treat Biscuits
I'm pretty sure we've received a similar snack in a past box, but I absolutely loved it—even if it was a repeat! Featuring a cast of animals dressed in Halloween costumes, these little animal cracker-shaped treats even have their English names printed across the middle. It's a fun and tasty way to practice language skills! I’ll have to look into whether other languages offer something similar for learning. With a buttery crispness and a flavor that's slightly sweet and savory, our whole family enjoyed this snack.
Pocket Monster Cookie
My kids love Pokémon, so they were thrilled to see this Furuta-designed cookie in the box. With a buttery-sweet flavor, this simple treat was the perfect mix of soft, crunchy, and light. Its small size meant each of us could have a little nibble—and we all truly enjoyed it! We'd love to see more Pokémon snacks in the future. Hint, hint!
Boo! Berry Pie Bites
I love a generously sized snack, and this one takes the cake—well, pie, I should say! This delicious treat comes in a large plastic tray filled with tasty, pentagon-shaped pies covered in a flaky crust. Sweet and crisp on the outside, they're filled with a blueberry cream on the inside, making for the perfect bite-sized snack. My son isn’t usually a fan of cheesecake (as pictured on the package), but he absolutely loved these pie bites. A big win for us!
Mystery Marshmallow?
The next snack we received was the one my kids were most excited about: marshmallow treats! With a colorful, eye-catching bag, they couldn’t wait to dive in. Sadly, this snack didn’t hold up well in the heat—the marshmallows had puffed up and melted together. While the grape flavor was yummy, the texture left something to be desired, as they were really hard to unstick from the bag and pull apart. They ended up being a little extra messy, but still tasted great—which is what matters most. So I’ll call it a win!
Mini I-Scream Cone
Ice cream is definitely one of my all-time favorite treats, so this "Mini I-Scream Cone" was one I was especially excited about. With a pointed waffle cone bottom and a scoop of strawberry "ice cream" on top, it looked adorable—but unfortunately, it didn’t survive the heat and melted a bit. While it was still packed with flavor and totally delicious, some of the melted "ice cream" ended up stuck to the packaging. Clearly, it was unseasonably warm when this box arrived—we’ve never had so many snacks melt before! Eek!
Ghoul-icious Garlic Chips
This box had been pretty heavy on the sweets up until now, so Charlie was especially thankful for something a bit more on the savory side. This next snack featured an adorable onion on the packaging and was filled with a generous amount of garlic chips. Crunchy and packed with a bold shrimp-garlic flavor, both of my kids loved them—even though one of them insists they hate shrimp! They were excited there was so much in the bag and ended up dividing it up to bring to school as a snack—and to show off to their friends, of course. Personally, I’m not a shrimp fan and didn’t care for these chips, but I’m happy the kids enjoyed them!
Halloween Custard Cake
Cake is another one of our favorites, and this month we received a single-serving custard cake. This small vanilla cake had a creamy center and came in the cutest packaging! Fun fact: this custard cake also contains a bit of alcohol—yippee! 🤣
Haunted Choco Stick
The next snack we received was called the Haunted Choco Stick. This wafer treat featured a crunchy interior with a sweet chocolate coating. We thought the flavor was somewhat similar to a Swiss Cake Roll—but a bit on the stale side. It wasn’t quite as tasty as we had hoped, but we still enjoyed giving this quirky-looking snack a try.
Purple Potion Gummies
Charlie loves gummies, so he was thrilled to see this little blue package with ghosts on the front. We’ve received similar grape-shaped gummies in the past, and he’s been obsessed with them—but he especially appreciated the added Halloween flair. Once again, this was a treat that melted a bit in the heat, but it still delivered on flavor! With a true grape taste, our whole family loved this one—and honestly, we wouldn’t have minded a second package!
Spooky Spicy Ramen
I really appreciate the ramen inclusions this subscription offers, and this month was no exception. A great little lunch treat, this beef-flavored broth has a spicy kick—so I’ve decided to save it for a cold day since I’m kind of a wimp! I’ll let you know how it goes once I try it!
Halloween Pumpkin Cracker
The next item I received was a pumpkin cracker. This tiny, thin snack had a subtle pumpkin flavor with a nice salty finish. The texture was a bit like styrofoam, so it wasn’t anything to write home about—but it was still fun to try!
Terrifying Twist Corn Bites
The last treat we received was a bag of corn bites. These chicken curry-flavored twists were bursting with flavor and absolutely delicious! All three of us thoroughly enjoyed them—and honestly, we wouldn’t have minded a giant bag of these.
The Verdict
As you may know, I have a lot of experience reviewing snack boxes—and after several months of receiving TokyoTreat, I can honestly say this is an amazing subscription and our absolute favorite of all time! After browsing through the pamphlet, tasting all the snacks, and checking out the extra online offers, my family is beyond impressed. This month’s curation was solid. While some of our treats this month were a little melted, the flavors were still good and they were fun to try. This month’s favorites were the Corn Bites, Pie Bites, and Purple Gummies. Overall, we were once again impressed by the variety and some of the best packaging we've seen in any snack box. We’re already looking forward to November’s box and have our fingers crossed for more gummies. Any guesses on next month’s theme? Comment below!

To Wrap Up:
Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes, you are able to sign up to receive this particular box until 11/15.
Value Breakdown: For $37.50 + $12.50 shipping, you're receiving 14 different Japanese snacks. At about $3.57 a pack, this is a bit pricier than some American snacks, but because it is shipping from Japan and creates an entire experience, it's unlikely you could order these snacks separately for cheaper.
