TokyoTreat is a monthly subscription box filled with candy and other tasty snacks that ship directly from Japan. Savory, sweet, salty—all the flavors given to you with authentic products you would find in a convenience store in Japan.

TokyoTreat ships monthly and includes full size premium products. With 12-17 treats in each box, they hit all of the flavor stops! More information about the snacks included can be found here.
This review is of the Premium Box which costs $37.50 a month + shipping.
This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out our editorial guidelines to learn more about how we review boxes.)
First Impressions

September is here, and we are in full football mode! School starts next week, but thanks to the late Labor Day, we had an extra week of summer vacation—and I sure appreciated it!
Kicking off the new season, we received this month's TokyoTreat box in our mailbox. As we flipped through the included booklet and sampled all 13 fun and unique snacks straight from Japan, opening the box truly felt like a special treat.
After unboxing quite a few TokyoTreat boxes over the years, I can honestly say it's still one of the most exciting subscription boxes to receive—and I'm definitely still a fan!

What's Inside the Box
To welcome us to TokyoTreat, we first received a cute polaroid type picture with a note from Ayumi, the TokyoTreat CEO. A sweet addition, this truly makes me feel like part of the family! ❤️
Along with more than a dozen tasty snacks, Tokyo Treat also includes a colorful magazine packed with snack information, cultural information, trivia, facts, and contests! While exact nutritional information isn't shared, (it is on the package, but unless you know how to read Japanese, you're probably out of luck), the pamphlet does include if a food contains a common allergen, what it might contain traces of, and if it is suitable for vegetarians. A great summary of this month's box, my boys loved reading through this guide!
Plum Hi-Chews
Just about every month, we receive a large bag of KitKat bars from Tokyo featuring a variety of different flavors. This month, however, we received a smallish resealable package of Plum Hi-Chews instead. This has happened a few times in the past, and I have to say, it makes me a little sad. I love getting the large package of KitKats, and my kids adore trying the new, fun flavors and checking out the cute packages!
That being said, we do love Hi-Chews! This premium version is soft and puffy, almost like a marshmallow, with the most delicious green plum flavor. They are sweet with just a little bit of tartness and totally addicting. While the package doesn't contain nearly as much as we'd like, these were a fantastic replacement flavor-wise. We just hope to see the KitKats back next month!
Parmesan Potato Sticks
The next item we tried was this bag of Parmesan Potato Sticks. These little sticks look like undercooked French fries, but they have the best salty Parmesan flavor. Crunchy and delicious, this bag was a decent size and offered enough treats to share with my family. They were one of the boys' favorites, and they said they wouldn't mind receiving these again in the future!
Chocolate Grape Gummy Balls
This next treat wasn't listed in the booklet. Instead, it was listed as a possibility, with a QR code to check out TokyoTreat's Tsunami Favorites. This chocolate-and-grape-gummy combo was not my favorite. Looking sort of like a Whopper, this definitely didn't taste like one! Sweet and chocolatey, but with a sour grape flavor and a gummy texture, I just couldn't get behind this treat. My kids were a little too scared to try it after they saw my face!
Because the package is resealable, I tucked it back into the box and will bring it to school next week for my students to give it a try!
Sasha Rich Strawberry Chocolate
The next item I received was one of my favorites, if not my absolute favorite! Packaged in a beautiful box, this lovely treat was just as gorgeous on the inside. With layers of chocolate and strawberry chocolate, it looked almost 3D-printed, as my son pointed out, and it was just as tasty as it looked!
Featuring dark, white, and strawberry chocolate, this treat had a rich chocolate flavor with a delicious real-strawberry finish. The kids and I both loved it, and sadly, there isn't enough left to bring to my students at school next week!
Moon Harvest Cookie
Look at how cute this cookie is!!! I don't think I've ever seen a cookie this cute! Featuring a mom and baby bunny, along with a big moon, this little shortbread cookie was both tasty and fun to eat. Small in size, it was a little hard to share, so I wish we had received a couple more. Still, this was definitely the coolest treat in the box!
Tsunami Monaka
The next treat we received was the "Tsunami Monaka," and we received two of them. Packaged in paper and then placed in a plastic container, this wafer snack was filled with a brownish-colored filling that my son thought was chocolate. It was not. It was actually bean paste.
While it doesn't taste bad, it isn't exactly my favorite either. It literally tastes like mashed-up beans inside a wafer. I guess when I'm looking for a treat, I want something a little more decadent than that combination.
Mitarashi Dango Bites
We've received a treat like this in the past, but this one had a slightly different flavor. Instead of the cola version we've received before, this chewy mochi has a soy sauce flavor. It's very sweet with a salty finish and comes with a little toothpick for poking into these little cubes of flavor!
The kids weren't quite sure what to think of this flavor combination, but it was definitely fun to try.
Sweet Potato Wafer Rolls
As babies, both of my boys loved sweet potatoes, but as they've grown, they seem to have lost their taste for them. That didn't stop them from giving these pretty purple wafer rolls a try, though! With a very fall-like color palette and flavor profile, we received two packs of these rolls. Crispy on the outside and filled with sweet potato cream and brown sugar, they did a great job capturing the natural flavor. We all thought they were decent, but honestly, we would've preferred a different flavor combination instead.
Moon Rice Cracker
Rice crackers aren't my favorite snack of all time, but I do enjoy them every once in a while. These circular crackers have a tasty soy sauce flavor that pairs nicely with their crispy rice cracker texture. The kids thought these were okay and enjoyed the saltiness, but they weren't overly impressed either. These were fine, but we'd much rather have something with a little more cheese in it!
Grilled Corn Puffs
Charlie is obsessed with corn, and he grew four different varieties in our garden this year. That being said, he was so excited to try this grilled corn puff snack! These little yellow rings literally taste like grilled corn, and he was in hog heaven. Crunchy, crispy, and packed with corn flavor, this was definitely his favorite snack. He would love to see more packages of these in future TokyoTreat boxes, please!
Matcha au Lait
The next item we received was a drink packet containing matcha au lait. Matcha isn't my favorite flavor, and I know the kids don't enjoy it either, so I saved this packet for my teacher friend, who is obsessed with it. To make it, you simply mix the packet with 100 mL of water. I didn't want to waste it, so I'm saving it for her and will see what she has to say about it next week!
Earl Grey Pound Cake
I'm not a tea drinker, and while I've heard so many good things about Earl Grey tea and its distinctive flavor, I've never been a fan. That being said, I wasn't quite sure what to expect from this pound cake.
Moist and soft with a texture similar to banana bread, this cake had a subtle, earthy Earl Grey flavor that wasn't overpowering. I actually enjoyed it more than I expected to! The kids, however, weren't quite as impressed and didn't think it was anything special.
Tonkotsu Ramen
Last, but certainly not least, was the inclusion of a lunch! This month's ramen flavor was tonkotsu ramen, featuring a creamy, garlic- and pepper-infused broth with medium-thick noodles. The listed allergens are wheat, soy, and sesame, and it's suitable for vegetarians, so there's no seafood in sight with this one!
With that being said, the kids are thrilled to give this one a try, but we have so many leftovers from our busy week of cooking that we're saving it for when they've all been eaten up. They already can't wait to try this one!
The Verdict
As you may know, I have a lot of experience reviewing snack boxes, and after several months of receiving TokyoTreat, I can honestly say it's an amazing subscription and one of our absolute favorites of all time!
After browsing the pamphlet, tasting all the snacks, and checking out the extra online offers, my family is always impressed by the experience. This month's curation, however, featured quite a few flavors that just weren't our favorites. While there was a decent mix of sweet and savory treats, we found a lot of them to be just okay, rather than snacks we absolutely loved.
The packaging was great this month, and we always have fun trying new treats, so it's still a win in our book! For the October box, though, we're hoping to see a few more chocolate and cheese-inspired treats. Any guesses on next month's theme? Comment below!

To Wrap Up:
Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes, you are able to sign up to receive this particular box until 11/15.
Value Breakdown: For $37.50 + $12.50 shipping, you're receiving 13 different Japanese snacks. At about $3.84 a pack, this is a bit pricier than some American snacks, but because it is shipping from Japan and creates an entire experience, it's unlikely you could order these snacks separately for cheaper.
