First Impressions
Once again, the packaging for this box is stunning. ♡
October's box gives you a taste of Nikko's Autumn Splendor. It was not surprising that Sakuraco included a gorgeous booklet, since its packaging is so impressive. This booklet describes each snack and lists if it contains any common allergens. This month's box helps us celebrate the changing season and Nikko.
What's Inside:
Sweet Potato Yokan
Sweet Potato Yokan is my favorite snack of its type.. and by "type" I mean the squeezable, slurpable packaging "type" of snack. The flavor inside of these tiny packs is insane. I am really impressed by the texture and how it immediately melted into my mouth, leaving me with a sweet potato taste and the longing for more.
Miso Peanuts
I will always love a nutty snack. The miso coating on these peanuts has a rich depth. I love the crunch and the lasting peanut flavor.
Autumn Arare
Oh, this snack was almost too beautiful to eat. The little leaves crunched like good fallen leaves should, and they were perfectly flavorful, bursting with hints of soy, arare, rice cracker, and a hint of shrimp.
Sweet Potato Sable
Crisp and tender, this snack is a luxurious blend of sweet and nutty. I savored this biscuit, and I had a hard time giving it up to share with my kids. At first bite, I tasted sweet potato and then the savory and nutty sesame peeks through, and it's a beautiful mix.
Strawberry Jelly
Of course, I had to wrangle this strawberry jelly from my toddler. She is obsessed with the jelly snacks in this subscription! I managed to take these photos, but she slurped it up so quickly that I barely got to smell it. It had a more natural strawberry flavor to it, which I love, and I can see why she gulped it down so fast.
Neko Furoshiki
My three-year-old has had a love for kitties since day one. She plans to dress as one for trick-or-treat, and her adoration has recently escalated into a full-blown obsession. As soon as she saw this, she squealed and ran off with it. A few minutes later, she was sitting contentedly on the couch with her favorite kitty toy, wrapped snugly in the Neko Furoshiki.
Strawberry Anko Donuts
Pastries like these little cuties are why I always look forward to unboxing this subscription. They are always moist, and the subtle sweetness lingers in my mind. The donuts were bite-sized and seriously scrumptious with their soft, strawberry-infused dough.
Apple Sweet Potato Cake
Speaking of moist treats, this was moist, sweet, and such a pleasure to consume. I have been loving each of the sweet potato snacks this month, but adding apple to the mix was genius. This was my favorite sample this month, and I wish I had a box full of them to enjoy all season long.
Nikko Yuba Chips
Mmm these delicate chips are so unique! Yuba is made from the skin that forms on simmering soy milk. They are seasoned with salt and pepper and have a very unique yet natural flavor.
Nikko Jingoro Senbei
I really love senbei, thanks to this subscription. This particular rendition is a very simple blend of butter, oil, and salt, and I love the savory flavor and dramatic crunch of each bite.
Uni Okaki Senbei
This delicious fried senbei was seasoned with sea urchin paste and sent straight from heaven. I give the crunch factor and the depth of umami flavor and A+ and a 10 out of 10. Five stars!
Walnut Mochi
I never met mochi that I didn't like. This one is very interesting. Nutty walnut pairs with a hint of soy sauce, and it is a match I'd never think of, but it totally works. I also love the occasional crunch of nuts in this snack.
Momiji Manju
Yes, the little cakes taste just as good as they look! My favorite snacks from this subscription usually involve a smooth adzuki red bean paste; add an adorable maple leaf shape to the mix? Pure gold! My kids and I gobbled these up; I love that we had three generously sized treats to enjoy.
Chestnut Shiruko Sando

Ooh this biscuit is very unique, even to this subscription. Each buttery biscuit has a subtly sweet chestnut paste mixed with anko red bean nestled inside.
Autumn Sencha
I don't know what it is, but this sencha blend screams autumn to me. Maybe it is the mellow flavor on this warm fall evening, but it just feels right.
The Verdict
Sakuraco's October box was full of unique treats and memorable flavors. I am always impressed by the range of flavor packed into this beautiful box. My family and I cherish unboxing this subscription together; it is so fun to see their reactions to each flavor profile and to fight over all of the tasty pastries and sugary treats. Discovering new treats and unboxing with the fam makes this $37.50 worth every penny.
