Allure Beauty Box — June 2024 Review

Paige Bennett
ByPaige BennettJun 5, 2024 | 1 comment

Allure Beauty Box is a monthly subscription box by Allure Magazine, a beauty-focused publication, that offers six or more products, with at least 3 full-sized products, each month. Subscriptions cost $25 per month, although right now, Allure is offering a flash sale where you can get your first box for $20 with the code “5OFF” or take up to $25 off a subscription with the code “WELCOME”. New subscriptions also receive a free gift and a $10 voucher for the Allure Beauty Box shop. The Allure Beauty Box is one of MSA’s top beauty subscription boxes for 2024.

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out our editorial guidelines to learn more about how we review boxes.)

First Impressions

When I first opened this month’s box, I was admittedly not as excited as I was for some of the previous boxes. First, it just looked emptier than previous boxes, and there wasn’t even a pamphlet with information and discount codes for all of the products like I’ve had in all of my past boxes.

This box had one makeup product, a mascara. Because I already have found my go-to mascara (after years of searching), it’s not a product I really want or need. I had some interest in the hero product, the Christophe Robin customizable hair product — although I wasn’t able to choose what I received.

All in all, this box wasn’t as enticing to me as some of my former boxes, but I went in with an open mind hoping to find some gems.

What's Inside the June 2024 Allure Beauty Box

white bottle of Christophe Robin leave-in hydrating mist next to white Allure Beauty Box package

Christophe Robin Hydrating Leave-In Mist, 150 ml (full size), Retail Value: $39 for 150 ml

Members got their choice of four different Christophe Robin products. While I personally wasn’t able to customize my product this month (not sure why, I usually receive an email for customizations), I was happy to get something that seemed like it would work for my hair.

I waited an hour or so after taking a shower, so my hair was damp but not wet, before applying the leave-in mist. Once my hair dried, I noticed it looked smoother with fewer fly-aways than usual, and it felt slightly softer.

white tube of Face Reality cleanser next to white Allure Beauty Box package

Face Reality Barrier Balance Creamy Cleanser, 180 ml (full-size), Retail Value: $35 for 180 ml

With four cleansers I use regularly (one in the shower, two different options for make-up removal, and one I keep on the bathroom sink), I really didn’t need another full-sized cleanser, but alas, here it was. This one is meant to be a gentle cleanser that can work for acne-prone skin. My skin is very dry but not acne-prone, so I hoped this wouldn’t leave my skin feeling irritated.

This cleanser was very gentle. It didn’t leave my skin feeling dry or tight, nor did it make it feel greasy. However, the smell was weird. It’s hard to describe, but it reminded me a bit of leather. I still prefer my other cleansers, so I don’t think that I’ll continue using this one.

white mascara box package next to red tube of mascara

Floss Beauty Rise Above Lengthening Mascara, 0.35 ounces (full-size), Retail Value: $22 for 0.35 ounces

When it comes to mascara, I prefer something that lengthens and separates my lashes. While this didn’t quite deliver in terms of lengthening as I had expected, it did a great job of separating my lashes. The best part is that there were no clumps.

I have already found my holy-grail mascara, so I probably wouldn’t repurchase this product, but it was a nice option to try. I’d recommend it to those who enjoy natural makeup looks.

pink rose face mist in glass bottle next to white Allure Beauty Box package

Earth Harbor Tidal Rose Crystal Hydration Toner, 20 ml, Retail Value: $16 for 60 ml

I’m actually already familiar with the clean beauty brand Earth Harbor, which I discovered at an industry event back in 2019. It’s been awhile since I used anything from Earth Harbor, and while I do remember liking the products when I first tried them, I am just not a fan of rose-scented products like the toner in this month’s box.

Still, I gave it a try and liked the spray formula, as it wasn’t as drying as toners I’ve used before. But it definitely had that rose fragrance that you either love or hate, so it wasn’t right for me.

person holding sample of Belif moisturizer

Belif The True Cream Aqua Bomb Moisturizer, 10 ml, Retail Value: $65 for 100 ml

This gel-like moisturizer was so light and creamy on my skin, and it didn’t leave behind a sticky or gummy feeling. I loved the texture, especially for summer, but I wish the scent wasn’t so strong. It smelled similar to lemon floor cleaner to me. Fortunately, the smell dissipated pretty quickly after rubbing this into my face.

This came in a very small sample size, so I’ll probably stash it in my travel bag for weekend trips. I don’t like it more than my current moisturizer, though, so I don’t plan to purchase the full size.

Fazit ingrown hair bikini patches in pink package

Fazit Ingrown Hair Bikini Patch, 6 patches, Retail Value: $19.99 for 12 patches

While these are designed as a “bikini area” patch, I actually get a few ingrown hairs on the back of my thighs now and then that can be annoying, so I decided to put these to the test in that area. I used them on two different spots on my leg, each time wearing the patch for 8 hours.

They did help alleviate some of the redness and swelling around the ingrown hair, but they didn’t actually extract the hair as noted on the label. It does say to repeat using the patches as needed, but I think exfoliating the area while I'm in the shower is faster, more convenient, and more effective.

Value – Was This Box Worth It?

The Cost: $25 (save more with a longer subscription — 3 months prepaid is $64 for first-time customers or $75 otherwise, and an annual subscription is $225 for first-timers or $300).

Total Value: $117.83

Value Breakdown:

  • Christophe Robin Hydrating Leave-In Mist: $39 for 150 ml
  • Face Reality Barrier Balance Creamy Cleanser: $35 for 180 ml
  • Floss Beauty Rise Above Lengthening Mascara: $22 for 0.35 oz
  • Earth Harbor Tidal Rose Crystal Hydration Toner: $16 for 60 ml (my sample was 20 ml, bringing the sample value to around $5.33)
  • Belif The True Cream Aqua Bomb Moisturizer: $65 for 100 ml (my sample was 10 ml, bringing the sample value to around $6.50)
  • Fazit Ingrown Hair Bikini Patch: $19.99 for 12 patches (my sample was 6 patches, bringing the sample value to around $10)

Key Takeaways

This box had the lowest value of any I’ve tried so far since beginning my subscription in January this year (although it was still worth well over the $25 per month the box costs). While I don’t mind if the value is lower when the products become must-haves for me, that wasn’t really the case here. I like some of the products, particularly the Christophe Robin hydrating mist, but overall, this box was a miss for me. I do think it has some great options, like the Earth Harbor mist and the Floss mascara, that others will really enjoy, especially if you’re into clean beauty.

Even if this box wasn’t the best fit for me personally, it was still fun to try out a few new things, and I have my fingers crossed that July will really win me over.

I think it’s important to note that they claim the tidal rose missed is full size at 1/3rd the standard retail full size from the manufacturer

They tried to pull down the claims, but luckily I have screen caps of their comments confirming, and they’re still discussing in the email that they consider this full size for this tiny facial toner trial
