First Impressions: Maev Dog Food

Here's how switching to frozen raw food went.

As the protective fur mom of a senior German Shepherd, Cora, her well-being is paramount to me — especially given the daunting health issues that can plague her breed in their golden years. Enter Maev, a popular raw food contender offering frozen raw dog food. When the opportunity presented for a candid review, I couldn't refuse it. Here's my honest perspective on this trending raw food delivery service.

The Ordering Process: A Breeze

Their user experience mirrors the ease of choosing traditional kibble by categorizing the options by health concerns and protein choice. Here's the breakdown for tailoring your order:

  • Life Phase: Options from puppyhood to senior years.
  • Protein Selection: Beef, chicken, or a mix.
  • Health Focus: Ranges from weight management to skin care.

My primary concern was quantity — how much food is appropriate? Thankfully, Maev includes a portion calculator that removes the guesswork, ensuring your furry friend's needs are precisely met.

I also liked their flexible delivery frequency – ranging from every week to up to every ten weeks – a thoughtful touch for those of us with limited freezer space.

The Unboxing: Chilled to Perfection

I was a tad skeptical about how the food would arrive. However, the contents were impeccably chilled, a testament to their meticulous shipping methods and a stark contrast to the often-thawed items I've tried in the past. The package also contains a concise guide, delving into the transition to raw food, and a section to document your dog's journey.

The Food: Authentic Human-Grade Food

Upon opening, the resemblance to a wholesome frozen soup base was uncanny, with a medley of chicken, vegetables, and fruits in plain sight. It's a breath of fresh air to encounter raw dog food that genuinely embodies its promise of using authentic, human-grade ingredients. But where Maev won my heart was with the utter lack of meal prep! Forget the thawing or cooking; serving is as simple as portioning the food straight from the freezer.

The Taste Experiment: Cora's Seal of Approval

The ultimate test, however, was Cora's reaction. Despite initial doubts about her interest in frozen food, the food was gone in less than three minutes. Adhering to Maev's transition guide, meal times transformed into eagerly awaited events, a significant shift from the previously laborious kibble routine. Seeing Cora's newfound love for eating has been truly heartwarming.

The Nutritional Payoff: Tangible Health Gains

Maev's recipes are curated with insights from veterinary nutritionists, encapsulating 11 fundamental ingredients yet brimming with the necessary proteins and nutrients. Their formula's inclusion of fibers, calcium, and essential omegas is designed to sustain our cherished pets' vitality. Aka, everything I need to help my Cora stay around for years.

Final Verdict: An Impressive 4/5

When all is said and done, Maev has the potential to be a leading raw dog food service. The transparency of ingredients, the convenience of prep-free meals, and the impeccable delivery conditions are unparalleled perks.

However, this is considerable, and understandably, this might be a deterrent for some. For Cora's tailored plan, a monthly expense of $221.23 is substantial. Yet, is it justified? To be honest, it is. The positive shifts in Cora's health are evident, making it worth the investment.

I can't wait to see the continued improvements in her well-being as we persist with Maev. Perhaps a follow-up review will be in order once we finish our initial supply!

I bought this food, and my dog hated it. No return policy. Arrived freezer burnt. Defrosted with chucks of chicken fat. Owner refused to give money back guarantee. Do your homework.
