Plus, you will also receive hands-on activities and tools to help your book come to life. Subscriptions are offered for ages 0-2, 2-4, 4-7, and 7-9. From Little Feminist:

This children's book subscription sends books that highlight lesser-represented characters and teaches important life lessons with beauty and nuance.

Opening The Box
Little Feminist sends their books in an envelope-style box. Packed snugly inside are the book(s) of the month, a welcome note and activity, and a bookmark with discussion questions listed on the front and back.
Here's What's Inside
Welcome Note & Activity
Our Little Feminist book for the 2-4 age group this month focuses on the theme from love and connection from afar. The coordinating activity is a postcard your child can decorate and send to someone they love who lives far away. LF provides a shape tracing, coloring, and drawing activity that your child can then practice those cutting skills to cut out and decorate their postcard with. I have a nearly 2-year-old and a 4-year-old, and one just started using child scissors while the other can successfully cut out shapes. It's amazing how much can develop in this age range!
Olu and Greta by Diana Ejaita — Retail Value $17.99
The first thing that grabbed me about this book is the illustrations. What a unique, incredibly eye-catching style. The colors are notably beautiful, with bold patterns and the appearance of a chalk-like texture. The story is a lighthearted way of addressing what could be incredibly painful to some: geographical distance between loved ones. In this book, two cousins live in different countries, and the words lightheartedly cover all the ways they couldn't possibly make it to each other, as well as ways that they can communicate. It's very sweet and relatable, even to my four-year-old whose nearest cousins live a few hours' drive away. The text is simple and repetitive, which I will keep in mind as we approach reading with my four-year-old!
Discussion Questions
Little Feminist always provides a bookmark filled with discussion questions for each book included in the box. Some are conceptual, and others ask the child to recall themes or events from the book. We especially enjoyed the question that prompted us to look at the similarities and differences between the two cousins' rooms.
Value - Was This Box Worth It?
The Cost: $22.95 per month + $2.95 US shipping. Save with longer subscriptions.
Value Breakdown: Little Feminist Book Club costs $25.90 per month, which includes the cost of shipping. April came bearing one beautiful hardback picture book that costs $17.99 at full retail, or $12.99 from Amazon. Fans and regular subscribers of this box will agree that there is also much value in the book selection, the activity, the welcome note to draw caretakers' attention to the positive themes they should highlight as they read, and the discussion questions. I also love the "supporting a small business" aspect.
Of note: Little Feminist offers four ways to purchase: monthly, three months, six months, and 12 months. They cost $22.95, $21.95, $19.95, and $18.95, respectively. Shipping is always $2.95. So if you were certain you'd like this subscription for a year, it would be $4 cheaper per month and much closer to the book's retail value.
Key Takeaways
We enjoyed the theme of this month's book, and especially loved the artwork style. While the concept is great fodder for larger conversation, the text itself is simple and repetitive, which could make it a good go-to for noticing word patterns as my four-year-old starts to read. We had fun with the activity this month, too, and have our decorated postcard ready to send to grandparents.
