First Impressions

This month included an activity sheet and a welcome sheet introducing this month's contents. This month's Little Feminist In Action activity is called "This is My Voice Song". This is a great intro to different voices and an opportunity to get a little silly while also teaching the babes. Call out in a whisper voice "This is my whisper voice," and have your babe repeat what you say and how you're saying it. We used whispers, monster voices, and ghost voices, just to name a few.

What's Inside This Box

Your Special Voice by Temi Adamolekun - Retail Value $8.99

This book is not only about your actual voice, but it is about finding your voice and using it for good. This book's message speaks of different ways you can express yourself and the importance of getting your message across. There is an emphasis on spreading kindness in the words and illustrations of the book. Each page has gorgeous, inclusive illustrations by Keisha Okafor, and it was a joy to read to the kids.

Wonderful Me I Believe in Me by Lorie Ann Grover  – Retail Value $8.29

I absolutely love this selection. Its pages are filled with colorful, inclusive illustrations and the words are sing-songy rhymes that make reading the book fun and interactive. We went through each activity portrayed on the pages and even acted a few out. The last page is our favorite; we pick a kid between the two pages that looks the most like each of us and our family members.

Discussion Questions

Little Feminist Book Club included discussion cards for each book. The messages this month revolve around voice and confidence. Ronan has been using his voice for quite some time now, and I always encourage that, even if it is something that I don't want to hear. Win is seven months old, so she is still on mama and dada, but we all have to start somewhere. The other discussion card talks about confidence, and as a parent, I think the best way to teach confidence is to exude confidence. This card suggests encouraging your child to do activities by themselves and then praising them for their accomplishments.

Verdict

Little Feminist Book Club had two awesome selections this month. Each of this month's picks are fantastic. I love the illustrations in each book, and the messages of confidence and finding your voice are both very important. The value of this month's picks comes to $17.28, not quite hitting the mark of the cost of this subscription.

After shipping, this subscription adds up to $25.90 a month; if you don't mind paying the price for excellent curation and content, then this subscription may be worth it to you. The subscription holds a value that doesn't always monetarily meet its cost, but I appreciate the service.

I’m a self-proclaimed “cool mom” who loves a little, who am I kidding, a lot of razzle-dazzle. I have been box-obsessed for over 10 years, and I am always on the hunt for new beauty, fun flair and trendy clothing boxes. A fun night for me includes an exfoliating foot mask and a bag of Dot's Pretzels while binging Rupaul’s Drag Race.
