The Breakdown – What’s Inside My November 2022 Ipsy Glam Bag
Ciaté London Metallic Eyeshadow in Plum Up
I couldn't find this eyeshadow shade as part of a specific palette, but I did love it- it's a beautiful metallic shade with a creamy formula that applied really well. I used my fingers for maximum pigment, and I loved how this had a reflective metallic shimmer without being full-on glittery. Another thing that I liked was that this color wasn't super dark- a lot of purple-plum shades stray more into eggplant territory, but this was more of a neutral that I found to be very wearable.
V Kosmetik Liquid Lipstick in Bubbly, 2.8 g – Estimated Value $12.94 (buy the full-size 6 g version for $27.74)
This matte lipstick was very pigmented, and looked a little more pink in real life than how my photo captured it. I liked the color, but when I applied it I found the texture of the lipstick to be a thick and it felt a little cakey on my lips when it dried.
Here is the lipstick swatched below the eyeshadow. I think they compliment each other rather well.
Goldfaden MD Plant Profusion Supreme Serum, 10 mL - Estimated Value $78.33 (Buy the 30 mL version for $235)
Goldfaden MD has never been a budget brand, but I definitely think this is the most high end product I've ever sampled from them. That price point is insane! I could tell something was different about this serum when it didn't come in the typical white and green packaging. It's formulated with raspberry and comfrey stem cells, and also has Swiss cress sprouts and japonica flower extract. This had a heavier texture than I was expecting, and I was worried because in my experience serums with a thicker texture tend to leave a thin residue or film on my face, which I hate. Luckily, that wasn't the case here- my skin absorbed everything this antioxidant packed serum had to offer and felt nicely plump and hydrated.
Juicy Couture Hunny Bee Candle, 1 oz – Buy the 15 oz version for $35
Juicy Couture perfumes were IT when I was in high school, but I haven’t really thought about the brand in years until this candle was available as a choice item for the month. It wasn't hard to decide to make this my choice item- I love candles, and I was curious to check this out. Juicy Couture claims this candle has top notes of ripe berries, peach nectar, and honeydew melon, middle notes of sweet honeysuckle, orange blossoms, wild honey, and lilac, and base notes of vanilla, blonde woods, and warm amber. I'll be honest- I didn't pick up on all of that in this little candle, it basically just smelled like honey to me. But I was excited to be receiving a candle at all in my glam bag and I like the small of honey, so it worked out.
Marc Anthony Coconut & Shea Hydrating Leave-In Conditioner, 1.7 oz
I could not find this leave-in condition available for sale anywhere online- there’s a thinner leave-in conditioner with a spray nozzle that wouldn’t work with the cream texture of this product, and then there’s actual conditioner (which is what the Ipsy link actually takes me to), but no leave-in cream conditioner. Value aside, this is a good-size sample of a leave-in conditioner that my curly hair likes. It wasn't too heavy, but it had enough moisture in it that my thirsty curls crave.
Value – Was This Box Worth It?
The Cost: $13
Value Breakdown: I could only find a value for two of the five items in this month's bag, and those two items add up to $91.27 thanks to the Goldfaden MD serum carrying the team. Since there are five items in this box, the $13 price point breaks down to paying $2.60 per item, not including the actual bag.
Key Takeaways
Even though I couldn't calculate a value for three of the five items in this month's Ipsy bag (which is an abnormality and not something that typically happens), this box still felt like it had a solid value thanks to the inclusion of the candle and the high-priced Goldfaden MD serum. Typically I take the Goldfaden MD prices with a grain of salt, but this serum just felt like it was in a different class compared to their products that come packaged in the green and white. I really liked the Ciate eyeshadow, too, even though the liquid lipstick wasn't my favorite. At $13, this is a tough subscription to beat- especially when every month you get to choose one of the items they send.
