GlossyBox is a beauty subscription that sends five deluxe and full-size products to your door every month for $21 (with free shipping to the U.S.). You should expect to discover new brands of hair care, makeup, and skincare in each box, wrapped up nicely with a different theme each time.

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out our editorial guidelines to learn more about how we review boxes.)

FYI: GlossyBox sometimes sends out multiple variations of the box during some months, so there may be some variation between what we review and what you receive.

First Impressions

This month’s theme is ‘Rock ‘n’ Glam.’ I love that, and I can’t wait to see what’s been selected for this particular theme’s curation. Let’s check it out…

What's Inside The Box

AROMATHERAPY ASSOCIATES De-Stress Muscle Gel, 40 ml - Estimated Value $11.20

Here we have the De-Stress Muscle Gel from Aromatherapy Associates. Although I’m always happy to have a muscle gel on hand for soothing my muscles after a particularly difficult workout, I have to say, the lavender scent is quite potent. I could smell it before I even opened the box. So, if you're sensitive to scents like me and depending on your level of desperation to rid yourself of sore muscles, you may get some use out of this. However, the muscle gel feels great on my knee. It’s very cooling on the skin and helps to soothe the area almost immediately. Unlike a muscle spray, this product’s gel texture makes it easy to spot treat areas, however big or small. I appreciate how that allows me to extend the life of the product and apply it only where I truly need it most. I’m thrilled to have this. Just beware that the gel does give a slight tingle that you may or may not enjoy.

BORGHESE ROMA Advanced Fango Active Mud for Face and Body, 15 g - Estimated Value $3.38

I’m a mask lover, and while wash-off masks aren’t usually my go-to choice (I prefer sheet masks), every now and then I find one that’s worth the time and extra effort. I was very impressed with this Advanced Fango Active Mud for Face and Body from Borghese Roma. As a mud mask, I was worried this would be too harsh for my sensitive skin, but I’m glad I tried it out. I applied this mask to my freshly washed face and allowed it to set on my skin for between two and five minutes. Afterwards, I washed it off, and I was pleasantly surprised to see that it was not at all drying to my skin. In fact, it left behind smooth skin that felt truly cleansed; every pore was free of any dirt or grease from the day. The mask itself does have quite a natural scent to it that I could do without, but it’s not overpowering enough to be a dealbreaker.

REPLENIX Anti-Aging Age Restore Nighttime Therapy, 15 g - Retail Value $45.00

Well, now, I love a good night cream, so I am thrilled to see this Anti-Aging Age Restore Nighttime Therapy from Replenix. This powerful product works while you sleep to rejuvenate skin with brightness and even out tone and texture for buoyant, smooth, glowing skin after some consistent use. I love how smooth the cream is, and a little goes a long way. Since it has a water-based texture, the cream plays very nicely with my skin, moisturizing without leaving me greasy; perfect for overnight wear. It has a light scent that I don’t find to be overpowering, so that’s something I appreciate. One of the spotlight ingredients of this cream is green tea, which helps to calm irritated skin while providing anti-aging protection. I’m looking forward to seeing some positive results because I can use all the anti-aging protection I can get.

GRANDE COSMETICS GrandeLINER 2-in-1 Liquid Eyeliner with Lash Enhancing Serum, 1.5 ml - Retail Value $36.00

Eyeliner is one of those staple items that I always like to have on hand. I haven’t had the chance to try many Grande Cosmetics products, so I was pretty intrigued by this one. I really love the fine tip on this eyeliner; it’s much easier to get a precise line with a tip as chiseled as this one. Plus, the texture is smooth and doesn’t drag across your lid, and it does have some impressive staying power for all-day wear. It also doesn’t fade, flake, or smudge, and I appreciate that the black shade is a true black. Besides being a great eyeliner, this product is a 2-in-1, containing a lash enhancing serum within. Using this on a consistent basis can help to create the look of thicker, longer looking lashes, which I think is great. I’ve always wished my lashes were just a touch longer. What also makes this eyeliner unique is that its applicator is in the form of a dip bottle rather than a pen, which prevents the product from drying out.

THE VINTAGE COSMETIC COMPANY Satin Pillowcase, 1-pc - Retail Value $9.99

Oh, hooray; I love seeing products from The Vintage Cosmetic Company, and I love satin pillowcases, so this is a win-win for me. I love the design of this pillowcase, with its super fun pink and black leopard print. I’m a bit of a hot sleeper, and one of the benefits of satin pillowcases is temperature regulation. In addition, the material helps to fight against hair damage and also helps lock in natural oils and maintain hydration. It took me a minute to get used to sleeping on the satin texture, but since making the switch, I haven't looked back.

RMS BEAUTY Tinted Daily Lip Balm in Darling Lane, 3 g - Retail Value $22.00

I love a good tinted lip! No matter how many I seem to have lying around the house at any given time, it always feels like I could use just one more… This RMS Beauty Tinted Daily Lip Balm in Darling Lane is a solid product that I’m happy to add to my stash. I love how moisturizing it is to my lips. The hydration it provides lasts longer than some other lip products I’ve tried in the past, likely due to its powerful formula of jojoba oil, cocoa seed butter, and candelilla wax. I also love the packaging; the sleek and shiny lipstick tube is truly stunning. Plus, the tint this balm leaves behind is light enough to look very natural, which I appreciate.

Verdict

I thought this was an awesome month for GlossyBox! I’m thrilled to have another satin pillowcase because I personally can never have enough. Another highlight of this box was Aromatherapy Associates’ muscle gel, which provides some legit relief to sore muscles. Although it has a strong lavender scent, the relief it provides is worth battling the scent. I’m always open to trying different anti-aging products, so Replenix’s night cream was another welcome addition to this box. Discovering a wash-off mask that I truly enjoy is rare, and the mud mask from Borghese Roma is incredible, leaving my skin feeling clean and refreshed each and every time. Eyeliner is one of those staple products I like to have on hand, and the one from Grande Cosmetics doubles as a lash lengthening serum. Lastly, the tinted lip balm from RMS Beauty… I can never have enough lip balms, in all honesty, and even though I’d prefer an untinted one, the tint ‘Darling Lane’ is mild enough to maintain a natural look. Overall, this was a solid box. The item curation varied, from staples to some more unique selections, and the value is certainly there.

I cannot use or even be in the same room with Aromatherapy Associates products. The scents are far too strong especially any with juniper. It lingers for days, literally. I am allergic to patchouli and many of their products are drenched with it. I go into a coughing and breathing attack. As mentioned earlier, juniper is a close second. I bought their Advent Box recently and I could smell the juniper before opening the box. I had to find which product it was in which drawer than throw it outside. It turned out to be a tube of lotion. Yikes! I cannot buy anything from this brand. It is all overpowering.

Buyer beware, I subscribed back in April and I still have not received a single box. I have also asked for a refund and I’ve yet to receive that either

I subscribed to Glossybox on and off for years and always received my boxes and had good customer service if there was ever an issue with a box or product. However, I have been seeing a lot of people on Facebook also saying that they haven’t received boxes or that they received expired products. I am afraid that your “buyer beware” is very much needed at this time. Sad to see it.
