FYI: GlossyBox sometimes sends out multiple variations of the box during some months, so there may be some variation between what we review and what you receive.

First Impressions

My first thought on seeing this limited edition GlossyBox was pure excitement. I had never seen one of these box bags by The Flat Lay Co., so it was quite a lovely surprise. Plus, the bag is essentially a bonus item worth $25 in retail value! I can’t wait to see what products they have selected to include in this special curation.

Each month GlossyBox usually arrives with a booklet that includes a list of all the products included in that month's box. No booklet was included in this month's box.

What's Inside The Box

SUSTEAU Moondust Hair Wash Mini, 14 g - Retail Value $5.00

A powder-to-lather shampoo that activates with just water? I have never heard of such a thing before in my life, but I think it’s super innovative. Honestly, this Moondust Hair Wash Mini from Sustea is pretty incredible. It’s completely free from sulfates, parabens, silicones, phthalates, and synthetic fragrance, which I truly appreciate. Going along with its all-natural initiative, the shampoo contains rice protein for natural shine and fullness and aloe vera for conditioning and hydrating. The scent is hard to describe but it’s definitely a natural-smelling scent, and it’s not at all overpowering.

Now, this shampoo says it's designed for all sorts of hair, including thick, curly, and coily hair like mine, and believe it or not, this mini product is supposed to be equal to one eight-ounce bottle of liquid shampoo. However, the amount of powder I would need to use in order to wash my hair would create a more inconvenient and more lengthy shampooing process than I’m willing to accept. So, unfortunately for me, using this Moondust product on a regular basis just doesn’t make sense. But if you perhaps have a smaller head of hair than myself, this could be just the thing you’re looking for.

VOIR Sunset Rituals: Signature Conditioner, 25 ml - Estimated Retail Value $2.92

This Sunset Rituals Signature Conditioner from Voir is another hair product that unfortunately doesn’t really work for my kind of hair. This conditioner uses a formula of hydrolyzed hyaluronic acid for moisturization and shine, annatto seed extract for sun protection, and arginine for stronger follicles and healthy growing hair. However, I love that this product is also completely free of all the bad stuff like chemicals and whatnot. I’m definitely going to pass along this product to a finer-haired friend of mine who will be able to get some great use out of it.

AROMATHERAPY ASSOCIATES Revive Morning Bath and Shower Oil, 9 ml - Retail Value $18.00

I am obsessed with body oil and love slathering it on every inch of my body the moment I step out of the shower. It’s the only thing that works to keep my skin feeling smooth all day long. I’m pretty sensitive to scents and would always love a product that is fragrance free, so I’m not the biggest fan of the way this oil smells. Its formula contains juniper berry, rosemary, and grapefruit essential oils, the scent of which is at first a bit potent. But thankfully for me, I found the lingering scent that the fragrance leaves behind is mostly non-intrusive. It definitely leaves my skin feeling wonderfully smooth and silky to the touch without the oily feeling. Would I love this body oil even more without the fragrance? Absolutely, but regardless, this is a luxurious, high-quality oil that I’m pleased to have the chance to try.

BOSCIA Cryosea Firming Icy-Cold Cleanser, 30 ml - Estimated Retail Value $7.03

This is a really nice cleanser and a product that’s entirely new to me, so I was thrilled to see it included in this product curation. First of all, it truly does create a wonderfully icy-cold feeling on your face; super refreshing especially for the summer months. I used this as the first step to my skincare routine, and I have to say, I really enjoyed it. The product washes off smoothly and leaves behind clean, healthy looking skin. With a formula that includes menthol (hence the coolness), this product works double-time to plump and tighten as well as helping to smooth away fine lines and wrinkles and leave skin feeling soft.

BORGHESE ROMA Crema Ristorativo 24 Moisturizer, 13 g - Estimated Retail Value $35.75

Wow, this is some luxurious moisturizer! I’ve actually never heard of the brand Borghese Roma before, so I was happy to give it a try. This is my new favorite moisturizer. It is a bit thicker than I would usually prefer, but it has more of a gel-cream hybrid texture to it, and it absorbs super quickly. I love how it leaves my skin feeling hydrated by not at all greasy or sticky. The ingredients in this formula are super innovative – BioNymph Peptide Complex helps protect skin from free radical damage, Moist 24 (a hydroglycolic extract of Imperata Cylindrica root) hydrates the skin, and watermelon extract promotes cell regeneration. Over time, this results in bouncier, more supple skin, and I am absolutely loving it. Bonus points for being virtually scentless too.

VOLITION Mineral Prismatic Luminizing Shield SPF 35, 30 ml - Retail Value $35.00

I love how the brand sums up this product as the ‘anti-sunscreen for sunscreen haters.’ Now, I wasn’t expecting this to live up to the hype, but I have to say, I was truly impressed. At first I was thinking it might leave behind the dreaded white cast that most sunscreens do, but it did not. This sunscreen actually has a bit of a creamy tint to it that leaves me glowing on those makeup-free days. I really love how lightweight this product feels on my skin too. I have no fear that this is going to clog my pores either, which I really appreciate. This is also perfect for wearing under makeup because it doesn’t leave your face feeling greasy like other mineral sunscreens do. I am really happy to have this on hand and will definitely be using this daily down until the very last drop!

NUDESTIX Nudies All Over Face Blush Color in Naughty N’ Spice, 1.8 g - Retail Value $34.00

What a unique product… This Nudestix Nudies All Over Face Blush Color serves as color not only for your cheeks but also for your eyes and lips. Now, I don’t know about you, but I’m always a bit suspicious of a product that promises to deliver quality results in more than one way. That being said, I’ve never had the chance to try a product from Nudestix, so I went in with an open mind and was pleasantly surprised. The color Naughty N’ Spice is a nice rose / light mauve color. The formula is very creamy and smooth, and it seems to be long-lasting, perfect for all-day wear. One thing I noticed, though, is that if you have oily skin, this may disappear or quickly wipe off. Since I do have skin that’s more on the oily side, this product isn’t one that I’ll be using during the summertime. I’ll likely save it for the fall or winter.

SOLINOTES Yuzu Eau De Parfum, 50 ml - Retail Value $15.26

Front of Yuzu Solinotes Perfume for GlossyBox x Flat Lay Co. Limited Edition

I’m not much of a perfume fan. Actually, I’m not a fan of fragrances in general. But to my surprise, the enticing scent of this Yuzu perfume by Solinotes did not assault my nostrils with something that reminds me of grandma’s favorite perfume. In fact, it has quite a citrusy type of scent, which makes sense. As I learned, ‘yuzu’ is a small citrus fruit popular in Japan, and this perfume’s scent was inspired by that. I actually enjoy the tangy notes of this fragrance. Although I don’t apply perfume often, it’s always nice to have a few on hand with scents that don’t make me choke.

THE VINTAGE COSMETIC COMPANY Make-Up Removing Cloths, 3-pack - Retail Value $9.99

I’m definitely a proponent of sustainability. I like how these Make-Up Removing Cloths by the Vintage Cosmetic Company allow you to be eco-friendly even while on the go or during travel. I enjoy the cute star pattern on these navy cleansing cloths. Very innovative is the fact that these are dual purpose. One side easily removes all traces of your make-up from the day, while the other side gently exfoliates skin, giving you glowing skin with not a stitch of makeup left behind. What’s really nice is that you can indeed remove your make-up with only water using these cloths; no cleansers needed. That’s a definite plus for me. These are perfect to keep in my go bag, and I appreciate that they are machine washable, allowing you to use them again and again.

Verdict

This was a really great limited edition GlossyBox! The highlight for me was actually Volition’s sunscreen. Super impressed with the lack of a white haze and the fact that they were able to create a mineral sunscreen that doesn’t feel like I’m slathering a handful of grease onto my face. I also really enjoyed Boscia’s cleanser; the coolness felt wonderful on my face, especially during heatwaves like this. The Vintage Cosmetic Company’s makeup removing cloths are really awesome for minimizing your carbon footprint especially while on the go, using only water to wipe away your makeup from the day. I’m happy to have the perfume from Yuzu because it features a scent I actually don’t despise, and it’s great to have on hand for a special night out. Borghese Roma’s restorative moisturizer was a welcome addition to the product lineup included. I love the gel-cream hybrid texture and the fact that it has no scent.

I really enjoyed the Aromatherapy Associates body oil. It’s one of the smallest samples I’ve ever seen, but it’s a luxurious oil that really does absorb quickly into the skin and leaves behind absolute smoothness. Nudestix’s all-over blush stick is a nice addition to have on hand, and it’s super creamy and long-lasting. Lastly, the Susteau powder-to-lather shampoo and Voir’s conditioner… Although both of these products will serve a finer-haired friend of mine better, I was pretty impressed with both of these products. Overall, this was a really awesome box. The product curation was interesting and varied, and the value was absolutely there.

I am also interested in the coupon. Keep rereading trying to find it.
I am thinking the powder shampoo would be nice to travel with since it wont take up room in my liquids.

This is not available if you live in Canada:((

I ordered this mainly for the sunscreen. I had a totally opposite experience. It was hard to rub in the white tint on my light face. It left me face feeling heavy and oily! I could not put on any makeup after this. I have an oily t zone but feel oily on the entire face. What a bummer.
I am missing the Boscia cleanser which I wanted to try.

Just want to confirm what Naomi said about the shampoo and conditioner. I have fine (but fairly thick), wavy, longish hair, and they were both home runs for me! They left my hair shiny, clean, and not weighed down. The bag is fantastic and bigger than I thought it would be. I’ll use everything except the fragrance (not a perfume person), but I’ve already found a home for it. This is one of the absolute best beauty deals of 2022 so far IMO.

Hi Naomi – is there a reason you didn’t share a review of the Flat Lay bag itself? It looks intriguing but I’m not sure I understand what makes it “flat”.

Also, it’s not included in the Value Breakdown – is it included in every box or just for subscribers?

Thanks!

I can confirm that, as a non-subscriber, I received the bag.

The flat bag is included with every box. If you scroll to the top of the write-up, you’ll see two photos and Naomi’s thoughts on the bag.

Well, I did scroll up, thinking I may have somehow missed it, but still don’t see what you’re calling “Naomi’s thoughts” on the bag itself. And the reason I asked whether or not it is included in everyone’s box is because it’s not part of the Value Breakdown. But thank you for trying to answer, Mia.

Except that she didn’t really review the bag – just said she was excited to see what’s in the bag (which seemed weird to me since the box was spoiled on this site a couple weeks ago. The references to the monthly bag are also weird in a review of a limited edition non-monthly bag). 🤷🏼‍♀️
