BoxyCharm Premium is a full-size beauty and makeup subscription box. They always provide a great value compared to the cost of the box. The box costs $39.99 per month and features 6-7 beauty items that include nail care, skincare, makeup, haircare, fragrance, and more. (If you are a makeup addict - we recommend this box!)

First Impressions

Everything arrived in our regular black box with a card detailing the items included.

Now, on to the items!

Lunar Beauty Nude Prism Eyeshadow Palette - Retail Value $48

This is a palette that all subscribers will receive in their box this month and I was immediately taken by how pretty the whole presentation was. The pink packaging is covered in cherry blossoms and a 3D holographic finish full moon. It is really striking! The 18 shades inside are a neutral shadow lover's dreamscape. The first row blends from palest pink to tawny peach in matte finishes, while the second is shimmering metallics. The final row is back to a matte finish and brings a lot of drama. All of these shadows were smooth and highly pigmented, and I don't think there was anything disappointing here. My favorite shades are Bare, Sam, and Milk Tea. If i had to make a complaint, it would be that some of the metallics are super similar, but in person, they are different enough for sure.

Rodial Glass Skin Primer, 30 mL - Retail Value $39

I really wish I loved this primer. Sure, I don't reach for primers often, but this one has such a gorgeous radiance built into the formula. It makes my skin look so glowy and fresh. But the scent of this stuff is something I cannot overcome. It is so strong and so offensive to my nose, smelling of menthol and medicine. I hope this is just a 'me' problem because it really could be lovely.

Stone Street Soaphouse Geranimo Wholesome Body Cream, 250 mL - Retail Value $32

I received this same product last month in my Ipsy Plus June 2022 review, which I guess is the downside to both companies now being under the same ownership. Luckily, I loved it last time and it seems as though the texture was thicker as it should be instead of melty and runny. Here are my thoughts from my first tub:

My last item is a little tub of body cream that probably would have been better inside a tube because it is very runny! Maybe more like body milk? I think so. Even though it is kind of watery, I found it to be nicely moisturizing and I really loved the floral scent. Nothing groundbreaking here, but a very nice moisturizer.

Avant Blue Volcanic Stone Cleansing Gel- 100 mL - Retail Value $110

I am going to try to be kind here. But know it is difficult for me to not launch into a tirade about a $110 gel cleanser. Why??? Anyways, if I can turn off the strong feelings I have about that price tag, this cleanser is fine. Just fine. It is a non-drying gel is a very pretty blue color. Inside is normal cleanser stuff like water, glycerine, and vitamin E. It also has antioxidants from cacao. And, honestly, it was nice to use. $110 dollars nice? No.

Outre Best Buds Shampoo and Conditioner Duo, 250 mL each - Retail Value $66

I have a very sensitive scalp that is prone to redness and flakes. And this isn't the sort of scalp that dandruff shampoo can help. Nope, my scalp just likes to become randomly inflamed for no reason and dandruff shampoo just burns. I don't think I have ever tried a CBD shampoo before this one, and I did notice the anti-inflammatory benefits after just one use. I have used CBD internally and over gym injuries and something about it always seems to help. So I am not sure why I was surprised here. I thought the shampoo was nice and lathery and the conditioner left my hair less frizzy and added shine. Other than the scent (this seems to be the main issue for me this month in this box I guess), I loved both of these formulas. The pricing is prohibitive for a repurchase, but these larger bottles should last me quite some time.

Eyeko Black Magic Cocoa Edit Liquid Eyeliner - Retail Value $22

I am SHOOK. Is this eyeliner.... that isn't black? I had to swatch it to be absolutely sure. Indeed, this shade is a gorgeous chocolate brown. And The formula is crisp and very water and rub resistant. While this brand doesn't quite reach the "Premium" tier level for me, I really loved this eyeliner and am I tickled to finally see one arrive that isn't black. More of this, please!

Verdict

I didn't love this month's BoxyCharm Premium box. Sure, it has a total retail value of $317, but over a 1/3rd of that value was in the form of a gel cleanser. I did love the palette, shampoo+conditioner, and eyeliner (seriously, who am I??) but one item I just received last month and the primer was unusable because of the scent. Again, I feel like I mention this every month I review this box (maybe I just have the wrong idea about what premium means) but nothing in here screamed "Premium" to me personally. I want to see big brands that I would stumble on in Sephora and newer, cutting-edge beauty. Sure, ever so often this box does meet those expectations. June was actually a great example of that! But I would like to see more consistency.

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

Just in case anyone really loves this eyeshadow pallete but thinks it’s too expensive, Morphe has one extremely similar but with 35 shades and only $26! It’s called Big Primpin’ and every shade is beautiful and is great quality.

Large bottles of shampoo/conditioner?I wouldn’t call them large. Mine were 8.5 oz each. How big were yours they look larger on camera but may just be tricking me. I agree fully about the Avant cleaner and about this brand in general – way overpriced!
