Inside the June/July 2022 Box

Welcome to early summer with Love Goodly! I don't think of this subscription as one with obvious seasonality, since they offer year-round healthy hydration for skin, but with bright, floral info cards and some pigment in there (courtesy of a lip balm), things are feeling festive for warm weather.

As always, we received a folded card that, when opened, lists the four items that all Love Goodly subscribers will find in their box. They provide info about each, as well as a list of all the traits of note—everything inside the box will always be eco-friendly, cruelty-free, vegan, and non-toxic but some are also woman-owned, made in the USA, and more. There's also a discount code for 15% off in the Love Goodly shop, plus a couple of the brands included have special discount codes for LG subscribers. VIP subscribers will find an extra card that tells all about the additional item included for them!

Zoë Ayla Jade Gua Sha – Retail Value $24.99

I was first introduced to Gua Sha through a subscription box—I received a rose quartz piece shaped like the jade one we were sent here, and I didn't really understand the concept, nor did I spend much time on my skincare routine. The stone was beautiful, though, so I kept it around, even after it fell and broke. In the past year, I have shifted to wanting to do more for my tired face and skin, and have found myself wishing I could mend my broken Gua Sha stone. How wonderful to receive another.

I only have one other Gua Sha to compare it to, but this one is a bit smaller and thicker than the previous one I owned. That makes it feel more sturdy and easier to control for me, which I like. Visually, the color and striations are gorgeous. The experience of using it as directed is cooling and stimulating. I also have a jade roller from a previous subscription, and this is a nice alternative. In both cases, I wish I could say I am setting aside time for self-care, but more often I find myself using it at my desk in a moment when I need a reset. I often feel a bit revived by it and really enjoy having it there to look at, too!

Delia Organics Wake Up Moisturizing Lotion, 30mL/1 fl oz – Retail Value $26.99

I'm surprised to see this moisturizer called a "lotion" because it is a gel consistency. It's light and oh-so-smooth. The ingredients listed on the side of the jar are in the teeniest, tiniest print, and you can see that my phone had a hard time pulling the words into focus, but it contains a beautiful list of extracts, oils, and aloe—which, the aloe might be responsible for the gel-like consistency. Sweet Orange isn't the only essential oil in this toning formula, but it's the one they call out in the name and, accordingly, is the only faint scent I can pick up on in this otherwise neutral-smelling product. I was worried that after applying it my face would later feel dry, but that's absolutely not the case whatsoever. It's very refreshing and hydrating. A great start to the day!

OSEA Sea Minerals Mist, 30 mL/1 fl oz – Retail Value $18

And, a lovely follow-up to the Wake Up lotion is this spritz of oils from OSEA, who is back for the second Love Goodly box in a row. I would gladly welcome items from this brand month after month—I think their oil-based skincare goods are incredibly well-done. This toning mist is especially healing of faces exposed to the sun, nourishing you with seaweed minerals. It's another basically scentless product, which works fine for me given that it's always going to be paired with a moisturizer. The spritzer is quality and releases an even spray.

HURRAW! PLANTCOLOR Balm, 0.17 oz –  Retail Value $10

Love Goodly has provided subscribers with a number of naturally pigmented lip balms over the past couple of years that I've been receiving this box, and I've learned that they don't have a ton of staying power. But I've also learned that as someone who's part work-from-home and part stay-at-home-mom, I don't have the need for boldly colored lips. So, the faint boost of color offered by this vegan balm's beet, radish, and purple potato tint is just right for me. A powerhouse of "natural," this lip tint is raw, bee free, shea free, soy free, and palm free. It's 70% certified organic. All this to say, it's a good-for-the-environment and good-for-you product!

I feel great in this tint! In the third photo you can see how it looks swatched—on the top is one swipe, and on the bottom is about 8 swipes. On my lips is somewhere in the middle.

Delia Organics Goji Glow Cream, 2 oz. – Retail Value $38.99

This month's VIP item is another one from Delia Organics, this time in a larger quantity. This is a deeply hydrating face moisturizer. It's got black goji berry fruit extract in it, which contain natural amino acids that work well for toning. Toning seems to be the theme of this box, which is fantastic for summertime. This cream isn't strictly for evening, but its light lavender scent and thicker creaminess makes it an awesome night cream in my book. I have been feeling so soothed by it after washing my face in the evening, and loving applying it not only to my face, but to my neck and chest, as well.

Verdict

This was a really uplifting spread from Love Goodly this month! I loved the summer skin toning angle they took, and the lightness of all the thoughtful products they chose. It's hard to pick a favorite this month because it was very well-rounded, but I am very excited to have a replacement Gua Sha and am loving ending my days with the Goji Glow Cream that was sent to VIP subscribers.

What a great box! Thanks for the detailed review; I particularly love how your nail polish matches the gua sha! I’m curious why a brand would tout being shea-free, though — as someone who loves shea products, I’m now worried that their production might not be as environmentally friendly as I had always assumed it was??

Thanks so much for your comment, Tolin! (And, apologies for my delay here, I was traveling!) I had the same curiosity about shea butter. All I can find on it is that some folks find it heavy and that it can lead to breakouts. If I find more I’ll follow up!
