Birchbox sends samples (and sometimes full sizes) of new and exciting beauty products from top brands for $15/month. Birchbox is one of the original beauty subscription boxes and is a great way to discover new makeup, hair care, and skincare products without breaking the bank. I received one of the two curated clean beauty options.

This is one of our top recommendations if you are looking for a subscription box - the value and sample sizes are amazing. (Check out our list of the best beauty boxes and our reviews of Cheap Subscription Boxes for more recommendations!)

First Impressions

Wow, what a cool box! I love it. My eyes lit up when I first saw the unique color combination of this month’s packaging, and I’m hoping that the contents inside will be just as exciting.

Included is a product card that lists the products in your Birchbox on the front, with a Birchbox Tip listed on the back.

Now, on to the items!

BUSY CO. Facial Serum Pads, 2 wipes - Estimated Retail Value $1.60

Single-use wipes are one of those things I love to have on hand, but I am often too cheap to buy for my own use; at least not on a regular basis. These Busy Co. Facial Serum Pads are great and perfect for on-the-go use. I personally like to toss a few into my bag or car for those occasions in which I find myself in need of some refreshing. Whether a hot day or a hot date, I can instantly banish sweat, grease, and grime with the Clarify and Cleanse wipe, enhanced with AHA/BHA, calendula, and clover, while boosting and brightening tired skin with the Brightening wipe, enhanced with Vitamin C and hyaluronic acid. As far as the wipes themselves, I was surprised to see that they weren’t saturated with moisture; which isn’t a bad thing, in my opinion. These wipes get the job done easily and with just a few quick swipes. Plus, they are compostable, cruelty free, and formulated without fragrances, parabens, and aluminum. One day I might have to buy myself a whole box of these…

BYROE Truffle Eye Serum, 5 ml - Estimated Retail Value $19.00

I’m always on the lookout for products that can help take my under eye area from sunken-in and zombie-like to plump and fabulous. This Truffle Eye Serum from Byroe calls itself a ‘restorative metamorphosis’ (fancy, I like it). This serum is a blend of black, white, and summer truffles. Now, I know what a metamorphosis looks like… But do I believe that this product can single-handedly bring about such a transformation? I imagine I’ll find that out over time, and luckily, even with such a small sample, a little goes a long way. This eye serum is hydrating, soothing, and brightening, with a velvety feel that melts into a clear serum-like texture for a luxurious taste of ultimate hydration. Truly, you need only a dab of this eye cream, and it almost instantly absorbs. I’m excited to see if there are any visual changes for me after some regular use.

CLARA’S NEW YORK Hyaluronic Acid Serum, 10 ml - Estimated Retail Value $9.33

This Hyaluronic Acid Serum from Clara’s New York is a delightful addition to my skincare routine. It is scentless! So many serums tend to have a slight lingering scent that I would happily do without, so the fact that this product has literally no scent is a win for me. I gave this serum a try after cleansing my face and applying my toner. I noticed that it does take a few extra seconds to absorb fully, but it leaves behind this wonderful slightly tacky texture that, at least for me, seems to enhance the absorption of skincare applied immediately after. Hyaluronic acid’s natural formula contains retinol (Vitamin A) and restorative omegas that work double-time to lighten dark spots, improve acne scars, promote skin cell growth, and reduce fine lines and wrinkles. I never had the pleasure of trying a product from this brand until now, and I’m very impressed.

HERO COSMETICS Clarifying Prebiotic Moisturizer, 15 ml - Retail Value $4.99

I love the Hero Cosmetics brand. I have yet to be disappointed by any of their products, and this Clarifying Prebiotic Moisturizer is no different. This moisturizer has a super thin, lightweight cream-like texture. I tend to find that most cream-based products are too heavy for my skin, but this product is more like a creamy serum, and I am seriously loving it. I applied this moisturizer as a last step to my usual skincare routine, and I was impressed by how quickly the product absorbed into my skin. It didn’t leave behind any greasy residue, and in what felt like mere seconds, it felt like it had completely sunk into my skin. One of my favorite things about this brand is that their products are virtually unscented, thanks to their ‘Clear + Conscious’ mission, which includes no fragrances, no silicones, no artificial colors, and more.

WANDER BEAUTY Drift Away Cleanser, 25 ml - Estimated Retail Value $8.00

Wander Beauty is pretty popular with subscription boxes, but still I’m always excited to see a product by them. The first thing I noticed about this Drift Away Cleanser was the unique texture. It’s a gel-to-foam cleanser that lathers nicely and washes away completely, without leaving behind any film or residue. I have to be careful with the products I choose for my sensitive skin, and I was happy to find that this cleanser was super gentle. It didn’t cause any irritation and left my clean skin feeling hydrated rather than stripped like some cleansers do. It has a slight natural scent that isn’t at all overpowering, and it’s gone by the time you wash it off. I also enjoy this cleanser’s powerhouse formula, which includes seawater, kelp, coconut water, acai fruit extract, and guava fruit extract to help absorb toxins, repair skin, and defend against signs of aging.

Verdict

I really enjoyed this month’s Birchbox! It gave me the opportunity to try out a few new-to-me brands, and I enjoyed every single one of them. Clara’s New York hyaluronic acid serum was the highlight for me. This facial serum is completely scentless, and I found it to be very hydrating and soothing. The truffle eye serum from Byroe was another exciting product for me, and I’m excited to see if it delivers long-term results. The Busy Co. facial cleansing wipes are individually wrapped and perfect to take with you for whenever you might need a little refreshing. While this box delivered a few surprises, it’s always great to stock up on some of the tried-and-true. Hero Cosmetics’ moisturizer is a super lightweight moisturizer that absorbs almost instantly and hydrates like a champ. I love the way it feels on my skin. Lastly, the cleanser from Wander Beauty… I love how well it cleans and hydrates the skin with its gentle lather. It is not at all irritating or drying to my sensitive skin. Overall, I thought this was a great box. The value could have been a bit higher, but the curation of brands this month was next-level for me, so I’m not at all upset about it.
