First Impressions

Spring is almost here, and I am 110% ready for it! On this sunny March morning it is currently -10 and windy. With temps like that, I can't think of anything better than drinking a hot cup of coffee while practicing a little self-care utilizing the products I received in this quarter's Spring Walmart Beauty Box. I have to say, this quarter was pretty good. Read below to see for yourself.

This quarter we received a pamphlet detailing the entire self-care collection offered for spring. Interestingly enough, only two of the shown products included details, while the other twelve only listed their full-size value. It was stated each box would include seven items and be based off your beauty profile.

Liquid I.V. Hydration Multiplier, Golden Cherry - Estimated Value - $1.50 - Buy a pack of 6 for $8.98

More electrolyte powder mix?! I have to be honest and say that I was more than a little disappointed to see a package of Liquid I.V. Hydration Multiplier in this box yet again. I've shared before I'm more of a plain water kind of gal, and while I did receive a different flavor, I'm just not into it. Although quite tart, it definitely did not remind me of those juicy golden Rainier cherries I can't wait to get my hands on in summer. If you are looking for a new way to hydrate, this might be an exciting inclusion, but I'm left feeling meh.

CoverGirl Clean Fresh Skincare Weightless Water Cream Face Moisturizer - Estimated Value - $0.47 - Buy a 2.0 oz container for $14.98

Have I mentioned I'm not a huge fan of foil samples? Besides being hard to open, the one-time use factor doesn't leave me hurrying to the store for more. That being said, I was intrigued by the "72-hour hydration" detail and thought it would be interesting to try. Milky white and medium in consistency, I was drawn to the light "green/plant based" smell this water cream had. Like my typical moisturizer, this cream went on smooth but didn't leave my skin feeling greasy, though maybe a bit tacky. The enclosed info mentioned it also included a primer, which I honestly didn't notice, but felt nice anyways. As far as the 72-hour hydration goes, it was hard for me to tell if it worked that long. Between showers and my daily make-up I didn't notice much of a difference, but maybe with a larger sample it would be easier to distinguish.

Garnier Fructis Sleek & Shine Shampoo & Conditioner - Estimated Value - $1.25 - Buy a 24.5 oz set of shampoo and conditioner for $5.12

Because I have salon highlighted hair, I usually use Redken or Nexxus shampoo, but since they typically don't come in travel size containers, this Garnier Fructis set worked great for our snowmobiling trip! About every two years my husband and I will drop the boys off at my sister's house and go on an overnight date, and it just so happened to be this weekend! (Can you tell we are homebodies?) It just so worked out that my husband and I were able to pack a backpack and drive 300 miles (roundtrip) on our snowmobiles to a resort way up north. After a long (and chilly) ride, we had a lovely meal, watched the high school hockey tournament and hit the hay. Once awake, I jumped in the shower and was happy to have these extra-large (yet still travel-sized) bottles of goodness as the hotel versions were terrible. A little different than my usual, but nicely scented and sudsy, I really did appreciate the fact there was plenty for both myself and my husband, and they didn't take up a lot of space. Yay!

TruSkin Vitamin C Serum - Estimated Value $9.98 - Buy a 1 oz bottle for $19.99

As I've entered my 30s, I have tried multiple serums and moisturizers to help my skin age as gracefully as possible. My routine pretty much changes based on items I receive in my subscription boxes, so I was excited to see a vitamin C serum as it's been a while since I've used one. With a light, oil-like consistency, this serum went on easily and without being greasy. Because I have acne prone skin, I get a little worried with new products, but found this to seriously brighten my dull winter complexion. After a week of use, I honestly could see a difference in my skin! I can't wait to see what it looks like in a month! - I'll keep you posted!

Lottie London Slay All Day Matte Liquid Lipstick - FULL SIZE! (Similar version found here for $6.98)

Not listed in the pamphlet, I received this pretty mauve colored liquid lipstick from Lottie London. Interestingly enough, I can't find this exact container and color on the Walmart or Lottie website, so I'm not sure if this is old stock or not. I must say, the color is fantastic, with a pretty good staying power. I wore it to school and didn't have to touch it up often at all. I did however notice the very potent smell of this product, which was almost sickeningly sweet. It diminished after a few moments, but whew it was a little strong (and not very tasty!) Did anyone else receive this and notice the scent?!

Found Firming Argan Sheet Mask - FULL SIZE! Retail Value - $1.98

I love sheet masks, so when I found this at the bottom of this quarter's box, I was thrilled. Though not listed in the pamphlet, I was excited to read that this particular mask "firms and smooths for a more youthful-looking complexion" and is 94% natural. This mask is formulated without parabens, SLS/SLES, synthetic fragrance, phthalates, PEGs, and mineral oil and was manufactured in South Korea. After a long day at school, I applied this mask over my freshly washed face and sat for 20 minutes, scaring my kids and husband. 😂 After peeling it off, I patted the excess serum in and got ready for bed. Did I notice a drastic change in my skin's appearance? No, no I did not, but it made for an entertaining 20 minutes, and my skin maybe felt a little softer, so I'm calling that a win.

The morning after my Found sheet mask and Garnier shampoo, I applied my new vitamin C serum and lottie lipstick for a day at the office.

Verdict

Walmart Beauty Box has been on the up and up lately, and I feel this season was pretty decent. I received seven items, and though I am not a fan of the drink powder and wasn't real impressed with the size of the water cream, I was excited for the new lipstick, vitamin C serum, and face mask. The $6.98 price point was $2 less than the serum's value, which in itself is a pretty darn good deal. What did you think about this box? Did you receive the same variation?

The total value of this quarter's box came out to be about $22.16 which is three times the cost of the box! Receiving the full-sized serum, lipstick, and face mask made this box worth it to me, and I actually needed that travel sized shampoo and conditioner set! I thought this was a good deal, even if the lipstick was likely old stock. How about you?

I just cancelled my WalMart beauty box, worst box ever…I hydration multiplier drink mix 0.56 oz, a lousy sample of suave pink shampoo,a 1 ounce of cetaphil skin cleanser, a foil package of paint relief cream 2.4 ml a package of invisbobble hair ring!! I have short hair. I just to be ok but now is a lousy waste of money!!

I just got my Summer box (#V15) and immediately cancelled my subscription. Here’s what I got:
*Suave Up the Volume shampoo & conditioner foil pack
*Cetaphil gentle skin cleanser (not listed, it was supposed to be a sunscreen that I would have used)
*Arm & Hammer toothpaste sample
*Bare Republic mineral face sunscreen foil pack
*Sinful Colors polish in Aubergine (not listed and a vampy, dark red that isn’t really a summer color)
*Liquid IV single in Pina Colada.

I was hoping for BIC razors, Bliss Block sunscreen, Hello sweet mint SPF lip balm, Neutrogena SPF face serum, or one of the face masks. But instead I got a random assortment of things I didn’t want or won’t use. Not worth the $8

Ha ha, did anyone get an email from Walmart asking for feedback on the box? Mine was headed, “Hey Susan, what are your thoughts?”.
My name is not Susan, not even close…

Monique

To add insult to… seems Walmart sold my info to Liquid IV. I’m now on their mailing list. Not impressed!

Reply ButtonReply

Monique

Oh I am so not impressed!!!!
I got:
Monday Shampoo & conditioner (I don’t use shampoo or conditioner)
Impress Nails (I don’t use fake nails)
Happy Face Hand Sanitizer (Not a beauty product and who needs more hand sanitizer.)
Liquid IV (I have way too many already)
Revitalift foil sample
NYX Red Haute lipstick – same colour they sent me last box!!! A colour I’d never wear.
The 4 things I was hoping to get: Vit C Serum, Lottie Arch, Maybeline Ink Lip, Chapstick… and nope – didn’t get even one of them.
What a crap box!

I received the exact same as you! I’m praying the summer box will be a little better fingers crossed. P.S. Did you get black fingernails?

Reply ButtonReply

Monique

I wish I had gotten black – I got mint green! YUCK.
Don’t get your hopes up for the summer box – I got mine and I am 10x more disappointed than I was with the spring box.
Not one beauty item – all toiletries. There were 4 items, 1 liquid iv and a teany tiny foil sample of pain relief cream. I feel ripped off. Wrote a complaint and signed up for Ipsy.

Kaye

What version was this? They finally told me today I’m getting version 19 but I haven’t seen any spoilers for that one yet. I’m hoping it is very close to version 6 since that’s my favorite of the spoilers so far!

Walmart has just emailed about a Men’s Grooming Kit, limited edition, for $12.98. Check their site, I guess, for details.

I priced everything out for the men’s box and it’s not really worth it.

I was so excited to finally get my box (after multiple emails of it’s on its way) after seeing this box! Reading the comments makes me nervous though, there are a lot of items listed that would not work for me at all.

Reply ButtonReply

Kimiye

I got a couple of the foil packets, a Biore nose strip, the tiny lip stain, the eyebrow pencil, and finally, a Black Opal highlighting stick in Nude Glow, which is a dark brown. My profile was ignored– why do we bother? From these comments, it seems they had lots of niche products and indiscriminately dumped them on us.

Amy Caywood

Mine was exactly the same. I’ve received several of the same items in the last box. This one was nothing but junk. I won’t be able to give it away. I’ll probably trash most of it. Might be time to cancel this box.

Reply ButtonReply

Liesl

If I get another box like this next season, I definitely will cancel this box. For $7 I’m better off selecting 2 items (of something I’d actually like to try) from the travel size bin.

Liesl

I received a very, very disappointing box of what would otherwise be free samples. I received a Biore nose strip, Covergirl foil packet moisturizer, foil packet of shampoo and conditioner (not enough to use on my hair), a 1 inch lipstick, that Liquid IV that ends up in every box….basically a really crappy box. I’m waiting to see which box one of my relatives receives. If she also gets the crap box of foil packets, at least I’ll have company.

ELECTRIC BLUE LIPSTICK…. Ever since they told me to re-subscribe to change my credit card# I have been getting 2 boxes. I wasn’t in a rush to cancel since the boxes are usually somewhat different. This time I got the same items in both — the serum, fructis shampoos, electrolite packet, face mask, and another packet. The piece de resistance tho was the Lottie London shocking BLUE lipstick! For a 47 year old pale girl. Wow, it is bad. At least I got a laugh trying one on. Maybe my friend’s teen niece will use one for Halloween.

Most of my products weren’t even listed as options on the beauty notes. I got the Liquid IV, Lottie Brow pencil (Full Sz), NYX On the Rise mascara (FS), L’Oreal Revitalift sachet, Burt’s Bees Squeezy Peach Balm (FS), Not Your Mother’s Anti-Frizz S&C sample packs, and something called Tailored Beauty Curl Antidote Curling Cream sample. Just not impressed since subs were repeats, and I have stick-straight hair.

Darleen

Like many others, I got the Liquid IV drink mix (which I really dont consider a beauty item). I also received the Find Your Happy Place hand sanitizer, which smells good but at this point in the pandemic, who doesn’t already have enough hand sanitizer and again, don’t consider this a beauty item. Also inlcuded in the box was a foil packet of the L’Oreal Revitalift, TRESemme’ Pro Pure shampoo and conditioner – 3 oz size, BLK OPL brow shaper kit, which I won’t use as I’m not a fan of the painted-on eyebrow look (an no offense meant to those that like the look) and a Lottie stamp and eyeliner duo in black. Not a big fan of black eyeliner so may pass it along to someone who will use it. I wish Walmart would send more of what is included in their pamphlet and not so many substitutes. I would have liked to try the Kiss imPress Press-on manicure and the Chapstick total hydration. Overall I guess it’s ok for the price and seems better than what others received but once again disappointed in the content of the box I received.

I am cancelling. I received a black Hard Candy eyeliner, a Lottie London DARK Brown eyebrow pencil(I have dark BLONDE hair), the every month hydration drink powder, a Not Your Mothers hair packet of shampoo/conditioner, a teeny matte lip product, the foil packet of CG face cream AND… wait for it… a Tailored Beauty packet of curling cream (apparently I am supposed to run it through my damp hair, separate my hair into 3 sections, braid the sections and sleep on it overnight… tah-dah… curls!! Sure, at just-turned 56, that sounds awesome! JK. So over this box. I will take it to work and leave it on the break room table. Should get a few takers.

Reply ButtonReply

Melissa

Ditto. Exact same box. And I like your idea of taking it to the office break room.

I didn’t read the instructions on the curl cream. My impression was that it was for Black womenfolk nurture their curls.

Reply ButtonReply

Melissa

Yikes! Just saw my comment! It was supposed to read “for Black women to nurture their curls.” Not sure where the “folk” came from.

I Googled the Tailored brand and see that it has a Black founder/owner who started it because she had a hard time finding products that worked for her hair. That isn’t to say that it can’t work for anyone with curly hair.

I get 2 Walmart boxes, and they were identical. When this box started, there was supposed to be a “Classic” version and a “Trendsetter” version, so that’s why I signed up for both. My last few boxes have been identical or nearly identical. I’m getting frustrated about it, especially when it is a “bad” box like this one.

I did bring most of the contents to the office and left them in the break room along with the Rosewater face spray from the February Allure box, and they disappeared almost right away, so I guess at least someone is enjoying them! Funny because there were 2 of each item.

Dawn Garcia

That is exactly who the curl cream is best suited for. Definitely not my pathetically straight, gradually thinning hair. Checked my profile just to be sure I was still a blue eyed blonde. Not sure why they even ask for this info. Soooo disappointed in this box. Maybe my daughters will be better. I have no idea as to the email I used to order hers, so I am apparently a lifer on that box.

nikita_mnn

Like most everyone else, received the IB Hydration (the stack of them in my cupboard is embarrassing), the Covergirl Watercream, Not your Mother’s shampoo and conditioner packet (I am beyond particular with what I use on my red), the Revlon Colorstay, NYX Fill & Fluff Eyebrow Pencil, Milani Matte Finishing Face Spray and a Shea Moisture Illuminating Body Lotion.
Now, I have stuck with this box because there are always a few items which I keep/use with the thought that of “oh, that is handy to have for travel” or something new and interesting to try. There were multiple items, in the brochure, that would have appealed to me.
This is the first box, that I will use absolutely nothing from. Does that mean I will cancel, not necessarily but it is reallllly sitting on the fence. It seems as though, each box has provided less and less items which I use.

Annette

You look lovely!!!

Reply ButtonReply

Becca

Awe Annette, thank you so much!!!! ❤️❤️❤️

Reply ButtonReply

Teresa

I got a mostly different box as well. I received the Liquid IV, but also got a full size NYX On the Rise Volume Mascara, a full size Burt’s Bees Squeezy Lip Balm in Sweet Peach, Not Your Mother’s Smooth Moves Anti-Frizz Shampoo/Conditioner Foil Packets, a large packet of Tailored Beauty Curl Antidote Curling Cream (this is ¼ of the full size product), a foil packet of L’Oreal Revitalift serum, and a full size Lottie London Arch Rival Eyebrow pencil.

If you take out the foil packets and just count the mascara ($12.00), curl cream($3.75), Burt’s Bees ($4.99), and the eyebrow pencil($6.98), the box is worth $27.72, so pretty good box for me this season!

Sara Martin

I would have loved your box!

Walmart has so much junk…it’s weird they do this quarterly and not monthly.

Reply ButtonReply

mk

Just got my box yesterday and I received a NYX brow fill and fluff, a Revlon Satin Ink Lippy, foil packets of “Not Your Mother’s” shampoo & conditioner, travel size of Shea Moisture Hibiscus & Coconut lotion, IV Hydration, sample of face lotion… not a bad box..

Reply ButtonReply

Becca

Thanks for sharing MK! What color Revlon Satin Ink Lippy did you receive? I just love lip colors!!

Reply ButtonReply

Sherri

I got such a different box. Mine was version 6. I got the Liquid IV and the Covergirl cream that you got, but everything else was different. My other items were: Milani liquid highlighter (full size), Eden BodyWorks leave in conditioner (2 oz sample), Impress nails (I assume full size), Chapstick total hydration (full size), and Not Your Mother’s Shampoo and Conditioner (foil samples). I thought this was a pretty good box (OTOH, my winter box was a bunch of old/leftover items and was terrible).

Reply ButtonReply

Becca

Thanks for commenting Sherri! The liquid highlighter looked interesting, but I’m on a highlighter overload at the moment. I was also interested in the Chapstick….this dry winter air has my lips in rough shape! Does it work well? I’m glad you got a decent box this quarter!

Reply ButtonReply

Chris

I didn’t get any of these (except the liquid hydration) and I was very disappointed.

Reply ButtonReply

Becca

That is disappointing Chris! What items did you get?

Reply ButtonReply

RJ

I received seven items, only 2 from the pamphlet, the LIQUIDI.V. And hand sanitizer. I am 70 years old, I received a Lottie stamp liner of a star shape. Seriously? Also Pantene shampoo and conditioner and foil pack of L’Oréal Revitalift. One item for brows went right in the trash, it was an oily dark powder with a stiff brush that no one my age would wear. Not much value for me even with the low price.

Reply ButtonReply

prettypony

RJ, I bet you would look with that star!! <3

Reply ButtonReply

Becca

That is so disappointing RJ! I hope next quarters box is better for you!

Reply ButtonReply

Stephanie A Johns

I got a completely different box and would have been thrilled to get yours. After being charged for the previous box on 11/5 and not receiving it until the end of January, in spite of numerous emails asking back and forth, I was extremely disappointed to receive as my six items in the current box the liquid hydrator (again…and it went directly in the trash, again), a teeny like 1-inch long Maybelline super Stay Matte ink, 1-oz. CeraVe lotion, 2-oz hand sanitizer, and the one item I may actually use, a 2-oz Eden coconut shea leave-in conditioner. It’s like they totally disregarded my survey or just threw random junk in a box. I’ll give them one more chance next quarter.
