I'm thrilled that spring officially kicks off next week, and with a new season comes new trends for 2022. In the past year and a half, the jewelry industry experienced some of their strongest growths as consumers shopped for quality over quantity and searched for meaningful items that could be passed down to future generations. According to a survey by the Plumb Club, which pulled together information and statistics for the global jewelry market and the US jewelry industry, 48% of respondents said they made a jewelry purchase for a special occasion, while another 28% said they had no reason at all to make that purchase, but in many cases, it was just a gift to themselves. Also, according to the survey, $1,207 is the average amount spent on a jewelry purchase, with over 57% saying the availability of a financing option would influence their decision even more.

While this is good news for the jewelry industry, the truth is not all of us can justify or afford to splurge on diamonds and pearls, or very pricey designer costume jewelry, but lucky for us, jewelry rentals are always an option. Next month I'll do a rundown on jewelry trends for Spring/Summer 2022, and make sure to rent examples of what's hot for the next few months, but this time around I went crazy for earrings of all shapes and sizes. Let's dive in!

Rocksbox is a jewelry styling and rental service. Members pay a flat rate every month to get unlimited access to the Rocksbox collection and the option to buy whatever they love at a discounted price. Each month, Rocksbox will curate sets of three pieces to send your way, including at least one piece from your ever-growing wishlist. Members can keep and wear the three pieces they receive for as long as they want, or they can switch out sets whenever they'd like. Rocksbox also offers a monthly credit so you can buy the pieces for less.

This is a review of the monthly plan for $21, which includes shipping to the US only.

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out our editorial guidelines to learn more about how we review boxes.)

Just like other subscription boxes, when I signed up for Rocksbox I had to set up a style profile that asked me questions like my metal preference, and which necklace, earring, bracelet, and ring styles I liked the most.

Let's check out this month's delivery!

What I Received

Banter 18k Gold-Plated Pave Huggie Earrings - Retail Value $49.99, Member Price $47

About this item: These dainty earrings seamlessly latch onto and hug your earlobes as they click into place. Crafted in sterling silver with 18k gold plating, these lightweight hoops feature rows of pave crystals and each one measures at 9mm.

Condition: Great condition.

Review: I recently misplaced a diamond stud earring and had a complete meltdown. Despite switching out backings on the regular (I bought a kit on Amazon), these stupid studs won't stay in my ears. I've since located the lost member of the pair (I guess they have commitment issues), but in the meantime, I went down Mr. HGL's rabbit hole on Rocksbox trying to find a pair to replace them. I added a few to my wish-list, but once it came time to confirm my box, they weren't listed as an option. So, I swapped out one of the choices for these earrings and they're perfect. I love the size, the dazzling paves, and the fact that they clip and snap into your earlobes, thereby reducing the chance of them falling out. Plus, since they're so much cheaper than a pair of diamonds—if I lose them, it's not going to cause me to spiral into a panic attack.

I used my $21 credit and committed to them. 🙂

Joy Dravecky North Star Stud - Retail Value $80, Member Price $76

About this item: Reach for the stars and the moon with these shiny 14K gold-plated brass earrings that feature a four-point star design and a moonstone. These lightweight studs feature a natural stone which means the image might not show the exact color of the item you receive.

Condition: Brand-new in a sealed pouch.

Review: I ordered these earrings because I love the art deco architecture of Miami and these earrings remind me of something women would wear in the roaring '20s. And while they're really well made and they're pretty, they just didn't make me want to run out and learn how to do The Charleston. I just don't think they're my style, but I will continue wearing them for a few more days to see if I change my mind.

Side note: The necklace isn't from Rocksbox. It's an amazing piece I discovered on Etsy. It's heavy, incredibly well made, and it's exactly what I've been searching for online.

Aster Roan Hoops - Retail Value $50, Member Price $42

About this item: A Rocksbox exclusive, the boho-inspired Roan hoop earrings remind me of pleated and notched gold leaves. These textural, C-shaped hoops measure in at 2" in length and they're a little bit on the heavier side.

Condition: Great condition.

Review: I can't decide how I feel about them. I definitely wish they had a little more shine and polish (they look less shiny in person) so they could better match some of my other pieces, but at the same time they're quite unique and a great pair of statement earrings. Might be another situation where I wear them a bunch and then decide I want to keep them. What do you think?

Final Thoughts

The Verdict: I went a little crazy with earrings this time because they weren't giving me the option of changing the ring size for the rings I wanted, and all the necklaces seem to end up in a tangled mess. I wish they'd let me swap more items for each box. What I chose a few months ago may not be the look I'm going for now. Plus, I only wear gold-tone jewelry and they keep pushing me towards lots of silver.

If shopping were an Olympic sport, I’d be a gold medalist. And while my bank account often feels the crunch, I just can’t stop buying secondhand clothing and accessories, under-the-radar designer goods, stuffed animal unicorns (I have about 75), and toys for my pet bunny rabbit. After 20 years of city slicking in NYC and DC, I now have a car and love to tour the Virginia countryside looking for vintage shops, undiscovered wineries and breweries, historic sites, and Thai restaurants—I’m addicted to Thai food. I never leave home without a spare phone charger because I love horror movies and therefore have an irrational fear of being stranded somewhere with a dead battery.

Mary you can swap out all 3 pieces of your set BEFORE it is sent to you. And you can choose all gold. Your review (which is an excellent review, please don’t let my comment make it seem otherwise) makes it sound as if there is a limit to the items you can swap and that you have to chose the metal they suggest which is not the case at all. My absolute favorite part about Rocksbox is that when I get my text notification that my set is ready I can immediately login and swap all 3 items if I want. I’m also a gold only person which is another reason this subscription works so well for me because they have plenty of it.

I’m so glad you reviewed the Joy Dravecky earrings, I had them on my wish list but after seeing them on I don’t think they would work on me. I’m ecstatic you are reviewing this box, I’ve really missed the monthly reviews on it because my one complaint about Rocksbox is that a lot of times there are not enough pictures of the jewelry being modeled. In my opinion the best way to gauge how a piece truly looks is to see it on. It’s hard to tell the size without this. I’ve sent back countless necklaces because they looked lovely online but once they arrived they were minuscule in person. I also love a LARGE gold hoop so I was thrilled to see the ones you received!

Excited for future reviews! Thank you 😊

Oh, good! I didn’t realize that. I will dive deeper next time — meanwhile, April is kind of the same thing again. I guess I haven’t really figured it out. You’ll see… I’ll try to post it by the end of next week. I always want to see the size and shape on someone’s body part and that’s how you figure out if it’s right for you.
