First Impressions

This month's box theme is "Painted With Love." Everything that we could need for a romantic night in painting together is included. The monthly booklet gives you fun recipes that you can make together for your date night, two options for the painting you want to work on, and a few fun questions and quizzes you and your partner can do together.

What's Inside Our Date Night

Premium Acrylic Paint and Brushes

This month's box came with everything we needed to do a painting together. I love the wooden palette, but I do wish that it came with one for each of us so we didn't have to keep reaching for the same colors at once. The acrylic paint set is really high quality! Since we only used a few colors from it, I'll have this set to use for a while. My kids love to paint, so any extra I can have is a huge win. We also received enough brushes for both of us to use, and they matched what we needed in the painting tutorial.

Canvas With Stand

We also received two canvases with stands to make our paintings on. We really didn't use the stands to paint, but they are great to use if you want to display your finished product. I've honestly never painted on a canvas like this before so I really enjoyed how professional it all felt.

Adell's Himalayan Pink Salt Popcorn — Retail Value $3.32

To round out our date night, we received this yummy popcorn. It was nice to have a little something to snack on while we did the quizzes from the booklet. My husband is pretty picky with his popcorn, but he thought this was delicious!

Candle

And finally, a little candle to help "set the mood" for our date night. I love having candles lit so I thought this was a cute touch. It didn't have a strong scent to it so it's not something I'll be able to use again, but I loved the vibe it gave to our evening.

Lavender Moist Cotton Towel

The box also came with this cotton towel set to help with any cleanup. I didn't really use these because we had paper towels out for a more hefty cleanup, but I thought this was a cute addition especially since it has a romantic lavender scent.

After we did the quizzes in the booklet, we got our painting accessories all set. We picked which of the two videos we wanted to use for our painting and got started. We decided to do the two birds, since that felt romantic and a little spooky at the same time. The video was really thorough and easy to follow, but we did have to pause a few times to mix our paint colors and just to give ourselves time to paint. It was nice that we had the option to pause or rewind so we were able to work at our own pace.

Here is the finished product! Two paintings that come together to make one. My bird is pretty awful if you ask me, but we really had a great time working on this together. I was surprised how much I got into it—I felt so focused and relaxed that I said that we should paint together more often! Usually when I am painting it's with my kids and that is just a stressful mess, hahaha! When we showed our kids the painting the next morning, they both loved them so much that they wanted to keep them in their rooms. So my son got my husband's painting and my daughter got mine. All in all this felt really unique and special and something I would absolutely do again!

Verdict

This was my first Date Night In Box and I have to say I really loved it! I wasn't too excited to paint, but once we got into I really focused and relaxed. It was fun doing an activity together that we wouldn't normally do, and it was great that I didn't have to do any of the planning. We were both able to connect and unwind from our day, something that we don't always get to do with our busy schedules. Honestly, we could have used this during many lockdowns when we were both just at our end and overwhelmed with everything. It was still a lot of fun to do now since we still don't get a ton of quality time together. The box came with everything that we needed and the quality of the painting materials was great. The candle was cute, but since it didn't have a scent to it I don't really see the value since I can't use it again. All in all I can see the value in getting this box here and there to sort of reconnect with each other at home without having to do a ton of extra work to plan a unique date night.

What do you mean when you say you can’t use the candle again because it doesn’t have a scent?

Just that I won’t use it again since it doesn’t really serve the purpose that I like to use a candle for which is for its lovely scent.

Thank you for the fun review and lovely paintings! Can you tell us a little more about the recipes offered, quiz questions, and what the other painting option was?

The recipes were for more tapas items, like stuffed mushrooms. They also included a recipe for sangria. The quizzes were really focused on art and color, how you view colors and what that says about you, and would you rather type questions. You can see more detailed shots of these sections in the booklet under First Impressions.
