BarkBox is a reader-favorite monthly subscription box for dogs for $35 a month + free shipping. BarkBox customizes your box to your dog’s size. For reference, this review is for the medium size, which is recommended for dogs 20-50 lbs. Murray, my 10-year-old Corgi-Maltese will be testing these products to let us know if this subscription is up to sniff... I mean snuff!

If you have a younger pup or just one who needs toys of the rough and tumble variety, I highly recommend trying the Super Chewer subscription (read our reviews to learn more!)

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out our editorial guidelines to learn more about how we review boxes.)

First Impressions

The March 2022 'Madagascar Unleashed' box included three toys, two bags of treats, and a chew - this is close to what you can expect with your monthly subscription, though it does vary for everyone once in a while.

Sometimes, these items are marked as 'Sold Out' on the BarkBox app - but they have a little 'As Seen In BarkBox' section of the BarkShop where you can grab items featured in monthly themes.

Murray can sense when he gets a package, and he was literally pushing this one around my living room, practically begging me to unbox it with him. Let's dig in!

What's Inside The Box

Clucky Yummies, 4 oz.

Clucky Yummies are the perfect training treat. They are small and keep him occupied; they are crunchy and leave him a few crumbs to clean up. USA chicken and sweet potatoes are the main ingredients for these tasty treats, and they don't contain any grains in case your pup has trouble digesting it.

"Hand them over!"

Gobble Jerky Bars, 3 oz.

Murray seemed really impressed by this turkey recipe; anytime BarkBox sends a jerky treat, he starts acting like a wild animal trying to get to them. This formula only includes 5 ingredients, and these have no grain. USA turkey is used in this bag, and once again, Murray had no problem chomping through these bad boys.

Just barely behaving for seconds.

Pur Luv Pork Stick Recipe, 1oz

pork stick. chew

This is a repeat chew for Murray, but he was happy to revisit it. He isn't picky when it comes to any treats, so no shocker that it was a total winner. He has a bad back so he rarely jumps, but he was trying to jump and dive to get his paws on these pork sticks. This stick is made in the USA and doesn't include soy, corn, or wheat in case your dog has sensitivities.

Teef!

Lalaina Lemur Toy

Lalaina Lemur is adorable. I was tempted to give this little lady to Ronan, because I think he would find her irresistible, too. When I handed her to Murray, he totally babied her. He picked her up by the tail and rolled over next to her and nuzzled his chin over her, the perfect napping position. Murray doesn't react like this a lot with toys, so I was pretty stunned. At least he has good taste!

They make a cute couple.

Volana Iguana Toy

It doesn't get much brighter than this little guy. This cutie is plush with a squeaker and lots of crinkle in his tail. Murray loves crinkle, so he immediately was drawn to that tail, whipping it back and forth. It was hard to capture a clear photo because Murray was all over the place with this guy. Volana Iguana is definitely a crowd pleaser!

Attack mode.

Oly Owl Toy

Oly the Red Owl was Murray's favorite find this month. He loved the bungee neck that stretches and retracts when he lets go, especially when I tucked a treat in there that he couldn't get to right away. This toy is decked out with a squeaker in its head and crinkle in its body. Oly's colors and patterns are reminiscent of the 70's, and we are loving his vibe.

Got him!

Verdict

This month's BarkBox was an exciting array of toys and treats. Of course Murray was salivating at the treats even before I opened them (he knows that BarkBox=yummy treats), but the toys gave him hours and hours of play time that we both enjoy. I don't mind having BarkBox toys laying around because they are so darn cute and sometimes pretty funny. If you are looking for a box to spoil your pup and also get your money's worth, this is it. If you're someone like me who hates to see old, nasty and worn toys laying around the house, this subscription is an awesome way to keep your pup's toys in rotation and keep him guessing with each month's finds.

Value - Was This Box Worth It?

The Cost: $35.00 a month + free shipping

VALUE BREAKDOWN

Since these products are all made by BarkBox, I was not able to get a retail value for each item. I received a total of six products this month, which averages out to about $5.83 for the $35 a month cost, which is a steal for the quality of each item. You would absolutely pay more for subpar products in a pet shop, making this subscription well worth its cost.

To Wrap Up

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes! As of writing, you can choose to start with March's "Madagascar Unleashed" theme or a mystery box.
