What's Inside This Box

When We are Kind by Monique Gray Smith – Retail value $19.95

This month's book exemplifies what it means to be kind and shows fantastic examples of performing kind acts for others and yourself as well as being on the receiving end of kindness. This book includes text in English and Diné; its photos are beautifully illustrated, and it shows the importance of showing kindness and empathy to one's family, animals and the earth. This book is lovely, and I am happy we can add it to our collection.

Discussion Questions

Little Feminist Book Club included discussion cards for each book this month. This month's discussion question topics revolve around kindness. When I introduced this book to Ronan, we tried to define some of the kind acts with do for each other. For example, when Ronan kisses mom's booboo, gives Murray an extra treat or helps me put the dishes away, these are all kind acts that he is now aware of.

Verdict

Little Feminist Book Club sent a very nice, hardcover book this month. Kindness is an excellent theme, and I was thrilled to show Ro and explain to him each photo in this book and how/why it shows kindness. We only received one book this month, which was a little disappointing. I always hope that subscriptions can at least match their value to their cost, but Little Feminist is not a "more bang for your buck" kind of subscription. The monthly curation and service is usually well worth the cost for me for their thoughtful selections, but I am always wanting a little more.

After shipping, this subscription adds up to $25.90 a month; if you're someone who doesn't mind paying a price for an excellent curation and content, then this subscription may be worth it to you. The subscription holds a value that doesn't monetarily meet its cost, but I appreciate the service.

I’m a self-proclaimed “cool mom” who loves a little, who am I kidding, a lot of razzle-dazzle. I have been box-obsessed for over 10 years, and I am always on the hunt for new beauty, fun flair and trendy clothing boxes. A fun night for me includes an exfoliating foot mask and a bag of Dot's Pretzels while binging Rupaul’s Drag Race.
