First Impressions

The first thing I noticed about this box is that it’s for the month of December, which means the brand is super close to being caught up. Hooray!

What's Inside The Box

The box arrives with a booklet of information that lists the products and highlights some of the brands found within. December's theme was "Joyous."

BOMBAY AND CEDAR Comfort Essential Oil Blend and Tangerine Essential Oil, 10 ml each - Retail Value $31.00

Bombay and Cedar’s monthly lifestyle box always includes two essential oils. This month’s box featured the ‘Comfort’ essential oil blend, along with the tangerine essential oil. I’m not a huge fan of essential oils, but I do find it interesting to learn about the purposes of each. The ‘Comfort’ essential oil blend is a mixture of essential oils created with the goal of relaxing and easing tension in the head and body. This particular oil blend claims to alleviate sore muscles, provide relaxation, and relieve tension, stress, and migraines. The tangerine oil is a potent antioxidant said to reduce signs of inflammation. Its uplifting scent has been known to assist with mild cases of depression when diffused through the air. Each month, I enjoy having the opportunity to pass these essential oils along to a friend of mine who absolutely adores them.

FOUR SIGMATIC Mushroom Cacao with Reishi, 10 pouches - Retail Value $20.00

I’ve had the pleasure of enjoying Four Sigmatic’s cacao mix in the past, but this is my first time trying ‘Chill,’ a flavor of chocolate infused with cinnamon. I found this to be absolutely delicious. It has a great, rich cocoa flavor, with just the right amount of cinnamon and sweetness. I like that the product is caffeine free, so I can enjoy it at any time of the day without having to worry about it keeping me up at night. In the morning, I mixed a packet with my coffee for a delightful take on a cinnamon mocha, and in the evening, I enjoyed a packet with my favorite non-dairy milk for a sweet but healthy treat. I usually am not one for healthy options masquerading as desserts, but Four Sigmatic has definitely changed my mind.

DANICA NOW DESIGNS Artisan Mug - Listed Value $14.00

Danica Now Designs Artisan Mug for Bombay and Cedar December 2021 Lifestyle Box

A mug to go right along with my Four Sigmatic cacao mix! I love it when subscription boxes include products that fit so perfectly together. This artisan mug is a unique mustard yellow shade filled with an edge-to-edge white oval pattern. I have to say, the overall aesthetic of this mug reminds me of something out of the 70s. I feel like it’s something Midge would be holding on That ‘70s Show - in fact, I swear my grandma had the exact same mug. Either way, I’m very happy to have another mug that is both dishwasher and microwave safe since a lot of specialty cups are not. However, the one downside to this mug for me is the size of the handle. I wish it were just a touch bigger. I can be a little clumsy at times, so when I’m holding a cup of scalding liquid, I tend to first go for a mug whose handle is slightly larger, allowing space for almost all of my fingers.

KEEKO Morning Mist Oil Pulling Sachets, 14 sachets - Retail Value $28.00

I oil pull on a semi-regular basis. For those who don’t know, oil pulling consists of swirling an oil, usually coconut, in your mouth for 10 to 15 minutes. It has many benefits, including mouth and body detox, plaque removal and teeth whitening, and it also freshens breath. I usually just have a spoon of coconut oil, but still this product is new to me. I like that each packet is an individual portion, and I also really enjoy the refreshing, natural minty flavor of the product. One of these sachets left my mouth feeling fresh and clean, with just a slight hint of mint on my breath. They are very convenient and easy to use, and I like that each little sachet is portable and easy to take with you. Pro tip: if you have trouble swishing for 10 to 15 minutes, do your oil pulling while you’re in the shower.

CAIT + CO Luxe Peppermint, Rosemary + Lemon Handcrafted Body Cream, 454 g - Retail Value $21.99 (on sale for $19.99)

I love when body creams come with a pump applicator. This cream is so delightful to use; it’s really easy to dispense and apply. The scent is a blend of peppermint, rosemary, and lemon; the most identifiable of these being the bright citrus lemon scent. A rich, luxurious cream, I did notice a little bit of an oily residue from this product at first but it soon fully absorbed, leaving my body feeling moisturized. I also really enjoy that this product is plant-based and uses only pure essential oils for scent. The formula of this body cream is made with 10% shea butter and avocado oil. I love shea butter for the benefits it provides, which include renewing skin cells, evening out skin tone, restoring elasticity, and minimizing the appearance of stretch marks, so I am very happy to have this product.

COMPENDIUM ‘So Glad You’re Here’ Guestbook, 80 pages - Retail Value $19.95

This Compendium ‘So Glad You’re Here’ guestbook is adorable. The quarter binding and bellyband are both made of faux leather, and each page features a spirited quote with space for guests to add their own inspirations and reflections. It’s a nice size, too, measuring at 8.75 inches wide and 7 inches high. This book provides a beautiful, compact place to capture memories of friends and family. I probably won’t be using this; mostly because I don’t have many guests (by choice), but I’m sure I can pass this along to one of my friends who is the hostess with the mostest, and then I can add to the book when I come for whatever delightful party or event they’re hosting.

REBORN LIFESTYLE Travel Candle ‘Lost in the Desert’, 100 ml - Retail Value $10.72

To be honest, I’m not much of a candle person. I have exotic birds, who have delicate respiratory systems, so I don’t tend to use candles frequently. But I really enjoy the scent of this ‘Lost in the Desert’ candle. It’s a soy wax candle featuring notes of rose, jasmine, and oud. I smell the jasmine and the oud much more than the rose, which I’m happy about since the scent of rose can sometimes give me a migraine. The scent is a delightful mix of sweet and earthy that together create an enjoyable experience. I also appreciate that the brand is dedicated to making their candles eco-friendly, vegan, and cruelty free. All the materials are ethically sourced and environmentally conscious to make each of their products as sustainable as possible.

Verdict

I enjoyed this month’s Bombay and Cedar Monthly Lifestyle Box. The Keeko oil pulling sachets are wonderfully convenient, and I love the addition of the mint flavor to the coconut oil. Four Sigmatic’s ‘Chill’ cacao mix is a scrumptious warm treat that makes me feel cozy and relaxed with every cup, and I really enjoyed how the Danica Now Design’s artisan mug paired perfectly with the cacao mix. The Cait + Co Luxe body cream has a pump dispenser that makes it convenient to hydrate, and I found the scent to be very pleasant. Reborn Lifestyle’s candle has a very unique scent combination that I really like, and I’m happy that the rose takes more of a backseat. Also included this month was the essential oil combo of a comfort blend to alleviate sore muscles and a tangerine oil to reduce inflammation. Lastly, the Compendium guestbook: while it might not be something I’ll personally use, it’s absolutely adorable and perfect for passing on to a friend. Overall, I think this was a good box with a lot of unique products and the value to match.

Yes to oil pulling while showering! I would however recommend to NOT spit the oil out while in the shower.

How does swishing oil in your mouth “detox” your body? Don’t you have a liver and kidneys for that?

Reply ButtonReply

Melissa

Yes, exactly, you are correct, MrsLittle. This whole “we need to detox our bodies” is a myth for the most part because that is exactly what our liver and kidneys are for. And, like you said, how is swishing oil in our mouths going to help the rest of the body? Unless the reasoning is that it is preventing harmful bacteria from the mouth from going further down our digestive tracts, but that is why we practice dental hygiene by brushing.

Where is the “Mushroom” in the Cacao Powder?

Reply ButtonReply

Melissa

I was really excited to try this cocoa based on reviews I have seen on MSA of this product in the past. I should clarify – I think the one I had was just plain cocoa with no cinnamon. It was in a Glossybox, and one of the reviewers here said how great it was. I thought it was gross. I wouldn’t say that it tastes like mushroom, but it wasn’t “delicious” at all in my opinion.

The reishi………………

NancyM

I was confused because it says “Mushroom Cacao WITH Reishi”
Also, there was no mention of that in the odor or taste. It’s not something that I ever use so I don’t know if there even is a taste or smell to it.
