First Impressions

Little Feminist always includes a similar welcome sheet introducing this month's contents.

activity sheet

On the back of the welcome page is this month’s activity, which is “Gratitude for your Community.”

Community and support are so important, especially with a little one. Covid 19 has really put a damper on our social lives, but we still think it is important to show up for our community and ensure that Ronan knows there is more to life. We still take nature walks even though it has gotten a lot colder, and Ro has a blast loudly greeting neighbors.

What's Inside This Box

Together by Mona Damluji – Retail value $12.99

This lovely book is all about coming together. One person sings, come together with other people and you can make a harmony. I love the way this book illustrated togetherness and community. Ronan loves the vibrant pictures and pointing out the frogs, sometimes hidden, on each page.

Up Up Up Down by Kimberly Gee – Retail value $7.99

Toddlers are very, very busy people. They are constantly on the move, and the dad character in this book is just barely keeping up with his little one, so relatable. This is a great book for a two-year-old who is just starting to expand his vocabulary. Mom reads along and Ronan motions what he knows; it makes the book more interactive and the illustrations also help him remember what he is supposed to act out. I really love that this book shows the dad being a caretaker, too!

Discussion Questions

Little Feminist Book Club included discussion cards for each book this month. This month's discussion question topics revolve around community and opposites. We always have fun walking around the neighborhood, saying hello, or stopping to chat here and there with the community around us. We make a habit of acting out most of our books since Ronan isn't fond of sitting still and listening, so I am always either singing each page or waving my arms in the air, making whatever movement is happening in the book.

Verdict

Little Feminist Book Club sent two beautiful books this month. I love teaching Ronan about community and friendships and kindness, and it is astounding what new things he picks up every day. He loved flipping through each book this month and picking out different things on each page, whether it was a balloon in Up Up Up Down or the "wawa" a girl is surfing on in Together. I love having these diverse books sent to me every month, and I think Little Feminists does an excellent job putting together the discussion questions and monthly activity.

The two books featured this month add up to $20.98, which is a little cheaper than the actual subscription. Little Feminist is not a "more bang for your buck" kind of subscription, but the service is usually well worth the cost for me for their thoughtful curation.

After shipping, this subscription adds up to $25.90 a month; if you're someone who doesn't mind paying a price for an excellent curation and content, then this subscription may be worth it to you. The subscription holds a value that doesn't monetarily meet its cost, but I appreciate what they're doing.

I’m a self-proclaimed “cool mom” who loves a little, who am I kidding, a lot of razzle-dazzle. I have been box-obsessed for over 10 years, and I am always on the hunt for new beauty, fun flair and trendy clothing boxes. A fun night for me includes an exfoliating foot mask and a bag of Dot's Pretzels while binging Rupaul’s Drag Race.
