First Impressions

I love being a Scorpio. I love everything about it, and I’m proud to be a member of the Scorpio gang. From the moment I heard about this box, to the moment I opened it, I was super excited for all the goodies I knew were to come.

This box came with a product card that has a list of all the products included and a little bit about them.

The Beauty Products

CELLERX Clinical Reset, 40 ml - Retail Value $45

I’m a big fan of facial sprays or mists, and I am now obsessed with this CelleRX facial spray. Firstly, the pump applicator is wonderful and releases an ultra-fine mist onto my face, which is a huge plus because I absolutely despise when a spray launches large droplets of product onto my face. It feels more like getting spit on than refreshing. The scent of this product is very clinical. It reminds me of something that might be applied in a spa. This product also has an antimicrobial compound that deeply cleans pores and removes harmful bacteria, microorganisms, and pollution without drying out skin. After applying, my face felt marvelously refreshed, and the product seems to visibly help reduce any irritated or inflamed blemishes on my skin.

DAVINES SU Hair and Body Wash, 75 ml - Estimated Retail Value $7.80

The first thing I noticed about this hair and body wash is that it has a very lovely scent, almost like a sweet citrus. The second thing I noticed was that I love, love, love this product as a body wash. It worked okay on my hair but didn’t lather up as well as the Davines SOLU shampoo that I’ve tried before and really enjoyed; not that I mind because anyone who knows me will tell you that I’m not a huge fan of multi-use products. I find that they tend to serve one use much more effectively than the others they claim. The formula is very gentle and hydrating. It left my skin feeling soft and moisturized. My hair also felt very hydrated but not as squeaky clean as the SOLU shampoo left it.

SUN BUM CocoBalm Moisturizing Lip Balm in Ocean Mist, 4.25 g - Retail Value $3.99

This lip balm has one of the smoothest applications I’ve ever experienced. It glides right on to the delicate skin of my lips, leaving a light, sweet, minty fresh scent behind. The mint is not overwhelming and doesn’t burn or sting, but there is a pleasant minty tingle. My lips felt luscious, soft, and hydrated for hours after using this aloe vera and coconut oil lip balm. From the way the product feels, I can tell that it’s great quality and made with high-end ingredients. I like that it’s not too thick and not too oily. It doesn’t leave behind any greasy residue; just a lovely hydrating balm that absorbs into skin, is long-lasting, and not at all sticky.

ELF COSMETICS Liquid Metallic Eyeshadow in Meteor, 3 ml - Retail Value $5.00

ELF is an OG brand for me. I’ve always used products from their line, especially when on a budget. Since then, ELF has expanded incredibly, releasing a ton of exciting goodies and upping the quality of all their products while maintaining their budget-friendly prices. I had never tried a liquid eyeshadow from ELF, so while this was a familiar brand, it was definitely a new experience. I love the color. The shade ‘Meteor’ is bronze with a golden shimmer. It adds a bit of metallic sparkle, but the color gives it a classy, sophisticated vibe. The formula is gel-based, which I love, since I have more oily skin and oil-based products tend to disappear on my face and leave my pores clogged. I found this shadow easy to apply. It dried down quickly and stayed in place and pigmented all day long. I think this will be perfect for the holiday season. It gives me major Christmas vibes. You can’t be a grinch when you’re wearing ELF eyeshadow.

HERO COSMETICS Clear Collective Exfoliating Jelly Cleanser, 150 ml - Retail Value $12.99

I love the brand ‘Hero Cosmetics.’ Their acne patches and rescue balm revolutionized how I handle breakouts. I’ve also tried and repurchased this very cleanser for myself in the past, with positive results. I’m very happy that this product was included in this box. Every time I use this cleanser, my skin looks visibly brighter. The product does a great job of gently exfoliating, unclogging pores, and leaving my skin feeling incredibly smooth and delightfully soft. The scent is a light but bright citrusy scent that I find quite enjoyable and not at all overpowering. The formula also includes AHAs, BHA, and PHA ingredients, which I’ve noticed helps even out my overall skin tone over time. The exfoliant in this cleanser is very unique. It contains konjac jellies that dissolve as you’re cleansing your skin. I love how delicately they exfoliate and then disappear, activating a rich lather. I’m not a fan when cleansers have really harsh or plastic exfoliants. I always end up with one in my eye, which is a truly horrific experience. This is a cleanser I would recommend to anyone in my life looking to even out their skin tone or who has blemish-prone skin.

HUMPHREY’S SOOTHE: Witch Hazel + Rose Toner, 237 ml - Retail Value $11.33

I’ve always had very good results including witch hazel in my skincare routine. I was very excited to see that this brand’s product is alcohol-free and certified organic. It does, however, contain phenoxyethanol, which is no longer considered as clean beauty and is banned in European products. It can be harmful if ingested, inhaled, or absorbed through skin into the body, depending on the concentration, which the brand does not specify. I found this product to have a very strong scent, and it was also a little drying on my skin. But it did leave my face and pores feeling super clean, and I used a very hydrating moisturizer afterward to balance it out.

PACIFICA Clean Shot: Retinoid + Bakuchiol 3% in Seawater, 23.6 ml - Retail Value $16.00

I was surprised that this product didn’t irritate my sensitive skin. I have not had much luck finding a retinoid/retinol product that didn’t aggravate my skin. This product is very gentle. It goes on like silk and feels wonderful on my face. The texture is a very thick viscosity but is still somehow incredibly lightweight. It absorbed quickly into my skin and didn’t leave behind any sticky residue. The scent is a light, natural smell that isn’t overbearing, but I wouldn’t call it pleasant. I also really like that this retinoid product is a plant-based substitute for retinol. My skin felt smooth and my face looked radiant after use. In a few days, it cleared up some of the blackheads on my nose. I look forward to seeing if my skin can handle long-term use, but I’m feeling very positive about this product. This is definitely something I would repurchase again for myself and recommend to the people in my life struggling with breakouts and clogged pores.

GLOW RECIPE Lip Pop in Blueberry Bounce, 4.2 g - Retail Value $22.00

I am obsessed with the Glow Recipe watermelon sleep mask, and now, I’m obsessed with their Lip Pop as well. This product has a delicious juicy blueberry scent that reminds me of a Jolly Rancher. When I applied the product to my lips, I noticed it had a gentle exfoliant that was very soft and delicate, in addition to hydrating. It left a very nice pop of color on my lips. The product reacts uniquely to everyone’s individual skin tone. For me, it created a very natural-looking pinkish flush. My lips felt wonderfully moisturized and very smooth after use, and I really enjoyed how this balm simultaneously exfoliated and moisturized my lips while leaving behind the most subtle touch of color.

LIQUID I.V. Hydration Sticks, 3-pack - Estimated Retail Value $4.59

I don’t know about you, but I am always just on the border of being dehydrated. For some reason, I have the hardest time remembering to drink water throughout the day. So, I love anything that packs an additional hydrating punch, and this product is said to hydrate faster than water alone. My favorite flavor was definitely watermelon. Each of the flavors had a light fruity taste and reminded me of a slightly more salty sports drink. I did feel like I got an extra boost of hydration after consuming this product, and my urine was no longer a very scary, very yellow color. I’m not sure if I enjoyed the taste enough to repurchase, especially since this is a powdered product, which was a little bit more difficult to mix into the water. There were a few powdery chunks that didn’t completely dissolve that almost choked me from time to time. But if somebody handed me some, say in a subscription box, I would definitely use them.

CURL REHAB Scalp Care Tea Tree Oil and Green Tea Renewing Mask, 2 x 69 g - Estimated Retail Value $4.99

Oh, wow, I am blown away by the results of this mask after just one use. I have very thick and curly hair that has a tendency to get very dry and have lots of split ends if I’m not constantly working to keep it hydrated. After doing my normal shampoo and scalp rinse routine, I massaged this mask into my hair and scalp and left it there for about ten or so minutes before washing off. Afterward, I applied the cooling oil treatment and evenly distributed it through my hair. There was a noticeable difference in the texture of my hair. It felt much more silky, soft, and manageable. It was not oily or weighed down at all, and the product left no greasy residue behind. I also really appreciated that there was enough product included to easily treat all my hair.

DR DENNIS GROSS Alpha Beta Universal Daily Peel, 3-pack - Estimated Retail Value $8.80

I have some hyperpigmentation and acne scars on my face left over from my high school experience that I’ve been trying to lighten for years. Step one of these daily peel wipes gently exfoliate with five AHA/BHAs that work to boost radiance, diminish fine lines, and even out skin tone and texture. Step two works to neutralize and hydrate skin. After use, I noticed my face was much brighter, and my skin looked glowy and refreshed. I didn’t notice any dark spots fading, but that is probably something that comes with long-term product use. After application, my pores were visibly smaller and my skin felt squeaky clean but not too dry. I felt a slight tingling / tightening sensation as I completed the first step but nothing that felt too invasive or scary. It’s by far one of the most gentle peels I’ve ever used. It’s gentle enough for daily use, and I love how vibrant and glowing it leaves my skin.

Verdict

I absolutely loved this box. I find it slightly depressing that it’s a limited-edition and not a quarterly or annual box. I would love to get a Scorpio-themed box at least four times each year. I really enjoyed the CelleRX facial mist. It felt so refreshing on my face and left my skin feeling fresh and clean. The Glow Recipe Lip Pop was a fabulous hybrid exfoliating and hydrating product that I truly enjoyed, and it also smelled delicious. I really like how gentle the Pacifica retinoid serum is, and I’m glad that it didn’t irritate my skin and was impressed that it helped with blackheads so quickly after use. The Hero Cosmetics jelly cleanser is a product I’ve tried before and really enjoyed. It works well to cleanse and gently exfoliate my skin, and I love how incredibly smooth and soft my face feels afterward. Curl Rehab’s hair mask really did work wonders for my hair. I was really impressed with how noticeably different the texture of my hair was. It was really clear to see that the product was having a positive effect.

I found the Christmasy golden shimmer of the ELF Cosmetics liquid eyeshadow to be elegant yet festive, and I’m really excited to wear it through the Christmas season. Another great product in this box was the SunBum lip balm. I was surprised with how long my lips felt soft, luscious, and hydrated after applying, and I really liked that the product didn’t leave behind any sticky or greasy residue on my lips. The Liquid I.V. hydration sticks definitely helped give me a hydrating boost, and the taste was fairly good. I found the Davines SU hair and body wash to be a gentle and hydrating cleanser that I preferred to use on my body instead of my hair. Another great product in this box was the Dr. Dennis Gross daily peel wipes. I was really happy with the bright, glowy look they gave my complexion. Lastly, the Humphrey’s witch hazel seemed to work well as a toner, but I have to do more research on the ingredient list before I make it part of my everyday skincare routine. Overall, I think this was an exciting new take on a box. I love that it was based on astrological signs and was impressed that the curation seemed customized to me as a Scorpio. The value was definitely there, and the niche made it all the more fun.

Great box. Odd though to get 2 lip balms, and the curl mask seems very personalized. What about those of us that don’t have curly hair? Will it still work ok, or will it weigh hair down? I had to laugh at the message on the inside of the box regarding Cancers being “a true romantic, you wear your heart on your sleeve”, and having “big expressive eyes.” I am a Cancer, and I am neither romantic, nor do I have “big expressive eyes.” I guess I am not meant to be a Cancer. LOL.

So strange, the earth one doesn’t really fit at all. I put the other three elements in my box and checked the Virgo one the last because I was excited, Considering how spot on the others were. And it looked quite disappointing. I don’t even want it but I want the others.
