Season's Greeting's friends! ♡

Wyatt and I attempted to decorate for the holidays this weekend. Wyatt can often become disgruntled when there are new "things" suddenly in the apartment that he is not used to. So, we started small; a few lights here and there. He alternated between barking at them, trying to eat them to eventually just staring at them sort of like Winona Ryder from Stranger Things, so progress!

Ellie's Elves Sent Goodies

If you aren't familiar with Ellie it is a workout wear + gear subscription! Depending on your plan, each month you'll receive a complete outfit and some additional workout accessories/tools (for the 5-item box). You can choose from the collections for the month or skip by the 4th of the month.

This month, Ellie sent two, 3-piece workout outfits from their December Collection:

  • Each 3 piece workout set is priced at $44.95 per month

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out our editorial guidelines to learn more about how we review boxes.)

Always Classic

For this review, I wanted to do a quick breakdown of each piece's inseam, length, and product details to help you better navigate what size may work best for you. For me, knowing the product materials can help me decide if I should size up or down. (Here is Ellie's size guide for reference.) I went again with a size small for each set since Ellie tends to run slightly bigger than true to size (in my experience) A small ranges in (4-6) for reference.

Growing up, I always enjoyed seeing what holiday designs Coke would decorate their cans with. So, when I saw the Coca-Cola sweater in my Ellie box, my eyes lit up. I've also been a long-time fan of the brand Wildfox also, which is an L.A.-based brand known for their signature cozy sweaters, so I was excited to see each piece of The Classics collection was by them as well.

Classic Coca-Cola® Baggy Beach Jumper

  • 47” Rayon/47% Polyester/6% Spandex
  • 23” Length

Verdict: The sweatshirt is a lightweight fleece material that somehow keeps you warm without overheating. The cut of the sweatshirt is a relaxed, boxier fit.  I like that it didn't ride up or feel restrictive on my arms (long torso and broad shoulders). It's an easy piece to layer or even wear to bed.

Dylan Legging

  • Brand: Wildfox
  • 89% Polyester/11% Spandex
  • 27” Inseam
  • 6 ½” Ultra High Rise Waistband

Verdict: When I first saw the size of these leggings when I unwrapped them, I was a little concerned, they looked smaller than normal. Luckily it wasn't a fight to get them on like I was fearing, and once on they held me in but not in the uncomfortable way that leggings or tights can dig into you. These leggings are also more matte in person than liquid (as they seem to photograph in some pictures). I wore them to spin and I had no issues with comfort (just labored breathing from not taking a class for almost two years). These leggings are also stylish enough to wear outside of a workout. I paired mine with booties and a holiday top for a birthday party over the weekend.

Isabella Sports Bra

  • Brand: Wildfox
  • 89% Polyester/11% Spandex
  • Medium Impact
  • 1 ½” Underband

Verdict: I'd say this sports bra has definitely a medium if not high impact hold. I'm not sure if it's how the back of the bra is designed (almost like a speedo swimsuit) which makes everything stay in place. I ended up removing the padded inserts just because they seemed to fold easily, but I really liked the Wildfox lipstick print detail on the back of the band.

Glow Up

Betta Long Sleeve

  • Brand: Marika
  • 70% Polyester/26% Rayon/4% Spandex
  • 27” Length

Verdict: This Marika pullover reminded me of the first lightweight hoodie I got from Ellie in October. It's made out of that same suede moisture-wicking material that's easy to throw on at the start of a workout or after your workout is finished and you don't have to worry about it clinging to you uncomfortably.

Shimmer Legging

  • 92% Polyester/8% Spandex
  • 27” Inseam
  • 4 ¼” High Rise Waistband

Verdict: These Marika leggings are my favorite that I've tried from Ellie so far, and not just because I felt like I could be a part of the supergroup JEM. All of Ellie's workout wear has been very soft but these leggings felt lighter weight than previous pairs, almost like yoga tights. I loved the gold confetti detailing at the ankle. It's a festive touch for the holidays and reminds me of champagne bubbles.

Carter Sports Bra

  • 92% Polyester/ 8% Spandex
  • Medium Impact
  • Inner Shelf Bra
  • Crisscross Back Design

Verdict: I would say medium impact for this sports bra was accurate. It hits a little bit longer than a traditional sports bra (even on my longer torso, something to keep in mind when selecting your size). I wasn't sure I would like the fit initially because it's a sports bra with an overlay of the tank.  I didn't end up noticing the length issue once it was on, and it was actually very comfortable, I didn't need to take the padded inserts out of this one. Again, the gold detailing really makes this top stand out and I think it's my favorite Ellie print so far.

Value - Was This Box Worth It?

I really liked that with these two workout sets I can get multiples wears not only by mixing and matching prints, but I can wear the leggings out to social events outside the gym or dog park.

Just wanted to say my outfit came today 🥳 and I love it! Fits perfectly like a latex glove lol. And a huge YESSS to the high wasted leggings (all my pants should be like this 😁)

April

Yassssss Snow!♡ I’m so hype you are enjoying!

I feel the same about the high-waisted. I can’t do any pant that doesn’t go over my belly button. When I look at pictures from my youth in low rise, I’m very sad haha. It was not a good look for me!

Thank you for sharing Snow, I appreciate you! ♡

I felt very nostalgic when I saw they were doing a CocaCola outfit – it was always special to see the polar bears or whatever other holiday designs they had on their cans! While I don’t think I could pull off the black bra and pants, I love the sweatshirt- the cut is so much more stylish than I anticipated. It all looks great on you! 🙂 I’m tempted to get this set to motivate me postpartum! lol.

April

Hi, Brandi!♡

Yes, the polar bears! I feel like there were always holiday Coke commercials I got really excited about too.

I definitely think you can more than pull off the black sports bra and leggings, but I also understand wanting to hold off until you feel ready 🙂

Hello April. I have been visiting MSA since 2015 and I love your reviews! I share them with my 18 year old daughter, and now she will be subscribing. My daughter has a figure like yours and she liked the various photos of the different items and how they looked on you. I am not understanding people thinking that comments are fake??

April

Hi, Sheri!♡

I’m so glad you and your daughter have found my reviews helpful! I’d love to know which ones she ends up picking out( if you or her feel open to sharing♡)

Makes me happy that you’ve been a long-time reader of MSA as well.

The Other Sarah

Okay. Now that I’ve looked at the other reviews by this influencer I’m done, done, done with MSA. Someone who doesn’t have children reviewing a box for mom’s and babies? A fashion box for young girls? A book club for 8-year-olds? Come on! Do better MSA because the comments from friends and coworkers reek with inauthenticity as do these reviews. Telling me you don’t have a kid but you do have a precious dog is, frankly, insulting, insensitive, and infuriatingly tone deaf.

Joy Bramlett

I don’t fault this reviewer for reviewing the boxes she was assigned. I fault MSA for assigning them to her. She has a job to do and she did it. We should be angry at the new CEO who has literally had hundreds of readers tell her what we want and what we expect and she blatantly ignores it every time. That’s what is insulting in my opinion. This reviewer is not the only one who doesn’t have children who is reviewing children’s boxes (again not her fault).

There were tons of amazing Mom reviewers on this site before the hostile takeover. Again hundreds of readers have asked time and time again what happened to those (much loved) reviewers and all the CEO will say is that “they moved on”. While it’s perfectly natural for an occasional reviewer to move on, I think we all know that many people don’t quit at once. It’s pretty obvious they were fired and no one will admit to this.

Another thing that has become glaringly obvious is that anyone over 25 was also let go. This site had turned into an influencer style site because all the new CEO cares about is money. The problem is most 20 somethings aren’t the ones with disposable income to spend on boxes. She’s alienating her core audience and doesn’t care. None of this is the fault of the reviewers that work here now, they were hired to do a job and they are doing it. I think our anger is being misplaced by being angry at them.

Hi, Joy ♡

I greatly appreciate your understanding that it would never be my intention to review a box that a parent on the MSA writing team would want.

In October, I volunteered for the Little Feminist book review because of my previous experience as a teacher and simply because I love children’s books.

Again, thank you for your understanding, and for taking the time to read♡

♡April

April

Hi, Sarah

First, I simply just want to say I’m sorry.
It was difficult for me to read how I made you and other readers feel, but I am glad you said something. Having you or anyone else feel that my reviews were insensitive or insulting is an awful feeling and would never be my intention. That being said, even though that was not my intention, it doesn’t mean that your feelings aren’t valid, and to me, that means I’ve missed the mark as a writer.

I believe in transparency, so when reviewing subscription boxes geared toward children, I do note not having children of my own and enlisting the guidance of parents and their children when reviewing these products.

My thought process was, even though I may not be a parent, I can find out what resonates with some families and what doesn’t.

I enjoyed having the opportunity to review the children’s series, not only as a former teacher but getting to see what books kids respond and gravitate to has always interested me because it’s often not what I expect.

My reason for explaining all of this is that it felt like the most authentic way to convey an accurate review since I don’t have children of my own. I appreciate you letting me respond, and I mean it when I say I hope we can continue to have dialogues like this.

Deanne

I don’t think this comment is very fair because I went to read the one with kids books after your comment, and not only does she have a love for books and was a teacher, she had volunteered kids help her choose, so that’s pretty much you complaining a lot without even reading the review. I can understand not liking someone’s writing style for these reviews, but don’t get overly dramatic.

April

Hi, Deanne♡

I appreciate you taking the time to read my previous book review♡ I really enjoyed writing that one.

♡April

Colleen

I think you are putting effort in, but these reviews are just weird. Seems like the same people comment on your reviews. This does not seem authentic, and I’m not even sure what this is. It’s just weird.

Reply ButtonReply

Snow

I’m confused as to why you think this review is weird and inauthentic? April showed us the outfits and tried to have a little fun with it 🤯 I actually liked the first outfit so much that I went and ordered it (fingers crossed for picking the right sizes! 🤞) People just seem overly harsh and too serious sometimes. This site is supposed to be fun and bring a little joy to people’s lives….lighten up! 😋

April Stettner

Hi, Snow!♡

Yayaya, I’m so excited you got the Coca-Cola outfit! I know it’s going to look great on you. If you have questions about sizing next time, I’m happy to help if I can.
I wish there were a way where (everyone who felt comfortable) could upload pictures wearing their outfits. I feel like that would be so much fun. I’d much rather see the clothes on MSA readers, honestly, haha. ♡

Also, thank you for being kind. ♡

♡April

mandi

When it came to the other review it looked like Ellie sent people over to comment, which isn’t her fault. I think this is a pretty good, legit review, and I was kinda harsh in her last. But I also think since there are a lot of new reviewers they don’t have the same familiarity with boxes that we do, they seem a little excited and maybe we’re a bit jaded about this stuff? I’ve commented on a bunch of random stuff for like 5-6 years (I also see another Mandi in the comments at times) and I recognize other names here-I think the post is pretty safe and I liked the comments about fit and styling.

April

Hi, Mandi! ♡

Thank you for taking the time to revisit my Ellie reviews! That made me really happy when I read that this morning 🙂 I’m glad that my comments about fit and styling in this one were helpful. I keep on trying to improve, so if there are ever any questions about Ellie’s clothing or future product reviews that you think “I wish she would talk about XYZ,” please feel free to tell me! That really helps me.

Thank you for also mentioning that you are familiar with other readers who have commented on my reviews.

♡April

April

Hi, Colleen ♡

I appreciate you sharing this. I don’t like that my reviews may seem inauthentic to you or any reader. I wouldn’t want to feel as if I was being pushed towards a product that wasn’t useful.
I try to be diplomatic in reviews because I know what works for me may not work for someone else.
If you find a common theme in my reviews that pinpoints it, let me know. I’ll keep working on this. ♡

Lauren

I felt that way in the last post, especially with all the random men commenting (sorry, that just seems unusual for a sub box for women’s workout gear) but I recognize a couple commenters here from other posts on both MSA and another sub box site. I actually think most of these are legit this time. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Side note: I like both these outfits. Still not ready to commit to Ellie but if the reviews I’ve read, these are some of my favorites so far.

Reply ButtonReply

April

Hi, Lauren ♡

My first Ellie review had a lot of room for improvement, haha. My idea of what I thought people would want in an athletic clothing review and what they actually wanted was very different. I also understand looking back at some of the commenters where people were probably like, “what the heck.”

I’m glad you enjoyed this month’s outfits, though! I appreciate you taking the time to read.

♡April

Ann

I get the same feeling. Something is really weird with these reviews. Unnatural.

Reply ButtonReply

The other Sarah

I’m so happy you said that as I feel the same way. There’s something just off about these reviews. The first one was atrocious and the comments were sooooo fake, but this isn’t much of an improvement. It’s way too influencer style for me between the wonky “I’m just casually hanging Christmas lights on a wall” style photos and the stale writing. Sigh. I guess I’ve aged out of MSA and maybe subscription boxes in general.

Sam

This looks so good!! I don’t actually drink soda but I looove the Coca-Cola top!

Thank you Sam! ❤️

I agree, the Coca-Cola top is my favorite. Anything somewhat nostalgic makes me happy 😊

Snow

April, both sets are fantastic, but I have to agree that the first one is truly fab (like I really really want it!). The only downside is having to wait until spring to show it off (I don’t belong to a gym but I do have an all access pass to the great outdoors lol). Thanks April for the review. I like your pictures and your upbeat attitude. 😊

Reply ButtonReply

April

Hi, Snow! ♡

You need to get it! I understand if it’s much colder where you are, though. I’m not the biggest fan of the gym either and agree outdoors is definitely preferred!

I really appreciate your kind words Snow♡ I try to have fun in most situations haha. I do really enjoy being able to interact with the MSA community and hearing different people’s experiences. I appreciate you taking the time to read; it means a lot to me!

Oh, JEM was truly outrageous! I like the first set the best. I’m going to look into it. Smart to list the measurements…

Reply ButtonReply

Snow

You realize once the theme song of JEM is in my head I can’t get it out, right?!

Reply ButtonReply

April

haha you know I had to refresh my memory on that sweet theme song, Snow! 🙂 I was definitely doing a karate kick off the couch (in the ’80s) to “No one else is the same!”

♡April

April

Haha, yes!♡ I just googled what JEM’s earrings did because I felt like it involved some form of teleportation.

I’m one of those tall people that have a freakishly long torso and arms so hopefully, the measurements will help others determine what size might work for them.

♡April

mandi

Love that first outfit! Are we allowed to buy one off items or is a subscription necessary?

Reply ButtonReply

April

Hi, Mandi!♡

The Coca-Cola one is my favorite too 🙂 So, Ellie does require a subscription for boxed sets (even if it’s just a one-time purchase). You do have the flexibility to pause, skip or cancel at any time, which is nice.

So, if you were interested in getting the 2-piece set: Coca-Cola sweater and the leggings, that would be $39.95 (not including the current 25% off deal) That way, you could try it out and see how you like it.
There is an option to purchase individual items, but I don’t see the items from “The Classic” collection in there. It might be because of the WildFox collab.

I hope that helped! Let me know if you end up getting your set and how you like it!
