First Impressions

Sea turtles and race cars seemed like perfect themes for my kiddos this month! We were eager to read the stories upon opening them!

Inside the Lillypost October 2021 Box

Lillypost always sends us a set of Finnley the Fox stickers along with a little note that introduces their coloring contest for the month. Kids can draw directly on the box and incorporate Finnley into the monthly theme, then share it on social media for a chance to win a prize. This month they shared some fun facts about the rainforest!

Let's Go Ted by Sophy Henn - Retail Value $8.95

Every kid loves getting creative with cardboard boxes and in this case, Ted turns his into a racecar, a digger, and even a spaceship! This cute book is fun for any imaginative kids but especially fun for little hands with the giant flaps to lift for some tactile fun. This book is simple, sweet, and a fun choice for younger kids!

The Boy and the Giant by David Litchfield - Retail Value $16.99

Little Billy has never seen the Giant, although his Grandad has told him plenty of tales about the way the giant has helped the people of their town. He comes to the rescue and is always willing to help, although he always manages to remain out of sight. Billy begins to doubt his existence, but his Granddad tells him to keep an open mind. When Billy sees the giant he becomes afraid and runs away, but soon realizes his mistake. In the end, he learns that people are afraid of things that are different, but the giant is really nothing to fear and he sets about making things right. This was another cute and sweet story with some really beautiful illustrations that create a magical world!

Little Turtle and the Changing Sea by Becky Davies - Retail Value $17.99 (found here for $15.79)

The story begins when Little Turtle first makes her way into the ocean and realizes its wonder. She loves her home and the beautiful things she encounters and the friends she makes, but as time goes by, the ocean begins to look a bit different. Garbage is beginning to take over her beloved home until some divers come to the rescue. This story is unique and just sad enough to evoke some empathy in the readers and shows children that their actions have consequences. While the story doesn't get too tense, the author included some great educational information at the back which could lead to some great discussions. There is a glossary with some important words, some information on the Great Garbage Patch, and details about how plastic can harm marine life. Best of all, they give some tips on what you can do to help and they provide some further reading and online resources. I could see this being a great introduction to recycling and taking care of our environment in a classroom or homeschool setting!

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!
