Everything in the box. Yellow Buffalo suede work gloves, brown-knit glove inserts, and two packets of waterproofing gel all atop a brown box.

First Impressions

Bespoke Post always has good presentation. This month the gloves, liners, and sealant came neatly packed in a plastic bag. It makes sense when you consider that they are packaged by size. I appreciate that Bespoke has so many different sizes of boxes (and bags) to fit the item you ordered. Sleek, simple, and recognizable.

The box typically comes with a card to let you know what's inside and a little bit about each item. This one includes a flow chart to help you decide if you should weatherproof your new gloves. Basically, if you're going to use them in the rain and snow, seal them up. Directions to do so are on the plastic bag they come in.

Gary Buffalo Suede Work Gloves - Retail Value $80

The main event of this box is a pair of golden buffalo hide work gloves. According to this website, buffalo hide "has superior abrasion resistance making it durable, rugged, and strong." All the strength of the large animal hide with the softness of suede. Although I haven't put them to the test yet, I feel like I could wear these for a long time and not irritate my hands. Bespoke says they are puncture and tear-resistant. All my gloves wear through on the fingertips, so I'm interested to see how these fare in that region. There is an "elastic clinch cuff," which I don't feel does very much. There is also a small tab with a hole in it at the front of the wrist. I'm not sure if there is a function to them. It almost looks like they are meant to be strung together for sale in stores. Gary has been making these gloves here in the U.S.A. for 25 years. They are so handsome, it's almost a shame to get them dirty.

There is a size chart to find which size is right for your hands. I was between small and medium, so I went with the larger of the two. The work gloves without the liners are slightly baggy on me. Part of me wishes I could try out the small size to see how it feels. However, when I wear the liner gloves inside these ones, it is a perfect fit. Since I plan on using these mostly in the fall and winter, I'll be wearing both. While Bespoke only offers the gloves in gold, the site also has a black option of the work gloves. There are also mittens and fancy gloves.

Note: These gloves, and literally everything at GaryGloves, are sold out. A note on the website says that the "one-man-team" in charge of Gary LLC has gone to grad school and the only reason the site is still active is for informational purposes. If you want to purchase these gloves, there are links to sites that stock them, but I clicked every one and Bespoke Post is the only place that they seem readily available. I find all of this peculiar.

Gary Wool-Blend Liner Gloves - Listed Value $20

As I said above, these liner gloves make the work gloves fit so much better, but I do like the option not to use them. They are an 80% wool, 20% Nylon blend, made in the U.S.A., and, according to Bespoke Post, "crafted to U.S. Army specifications." I'll be honest, I didn't notice that these gloves were separate from the others when I ordered them. They are nice, warm gloves on their own, but are the perfect pairing with the work gloves. I modeled these on a 90-degree day and it was miserably hot. While I would skip them during the summer months, I cannot wait for the first snow to bust the whole set out.

Sno-Seal Leather Treatment Gel - Estimated Value $1

Included in the box are two 1/2-oz packets of Sno-Seal beeswax leather protection. The card that comes with the box guides you on whether or not you should seal your gloves depending on the work you expect to do. If you do decide to apply the waterproof treatment, there are instructions on the plastic bag the set comes in. It's worth noting, according to the instructions, that sealing the gloves will change their color slightly. I haven't decided on mine yet, but suspect I will seal them for the winter.

Note: The 8 oz. jar, which is sold out, sells for $8. These packets add up to 1 oz. I consulted my calculator and that comes to $1. Another minutely interesting note is everywhere sells the 8 oz. jars, but each place has a 7 oz. jar pictured. So I don't know which one is the truth. The real takeaway is that it is easily available for when it is time to reapply.

Verdict

"Grip" was actually the first thing to pique my interest when I first started reviewing Bespoke Post. I've been putting it off for months, but with raking and shoveling seasons right around the corner, I couldn't think of a better time to jump on a pair of these buffalo hide gloves. While both the gloves and liners are good on their own, together they are great and make me feel like getting outside to do some chores. I like that they included the waterproofing option, but leave it up to you. I also really like unbranded items. There is only a small tag in the work gloves and nothing in the liners. They were exactly what I wanted and was expecting. These gloves make me even more excited for the fall and winter. This reminds of me a Tom Waits lyric I think about often: "What I miss you won't believe, shovel'n snow and raking leaves."

To Wrap Up

Value Breakdown: The items of this box clocks in at $101. That's more than twice the cost of the subscription and an incredible value. While I will say $80 for a pair of work gloves is a little steep, that's the value of a Bespoke Post subscription. Time will tell if they are worth the price tag. For now, I am very happy with the items and the value of this box. With the roughly $50 I saved, I could buy some topsoil and grass seed, which my yard badly needs.

Can you still get this box if you sign up today?  Yes, the "Grip" box is still available at the time of this post. Or you can pick from one of several rotating boxes.
