CURATEUR
3.3 overall rating
243 Ratings | 52 Reviews

Every season Rachel Zoe and the CURATEUR team will hand-curate more than $400 worth of their favorite fashion, beauty, and lifestyle items. The box costs $99.99 per quarter and ships to the U.S., Canada, the U.K., and Australia. This box seems to always have a wearable fashion item of some sort, usually a piece of jewelry, skincare and makeup, and a home or lifestyler item, making it feel very well-rounded. It is not uncommon to see CURATEUR-exclusive items that are one time collaborations with higher-end designers.

First Impressions

My box arrived with a handy booklet full of info and pretty, editorial-style imagery. This booklet always feels like a fancy little magazine and the extra info on the brands/designers is a nice element that makes the box feel well-rounded and fashion-forward.

What's Inside the Box

Parrish LA Stevie Poncho - Listed Value $148

I am admittedly not a poncho person but if I have to wear a poncho, one like this will certainly do! The color-blocked stripes make it feel a lot more structured than a poncho usually does and the knit is tight and a nice medium weight. I wish it wasn't 100% acrylic but at least I know it will be easy to care for. The design makes it look like the piece has sleeves when you wear it but while they aren't attached, the weight of the material keeps them in place nicely. Against all odds, I do think this will be a layer I reach for this fall and if you are someone who gets chilly in the office, it would also be a winner for a quick little stylish layer in a color palette that will go with so many things.

Here are a few shots in my backyard. Will did a pretty good job this time, although I didn't upload the ones with my mouth hanging open or some of my head cut off.

Naaem Khan Rose Candle - Listed Value $95

I was hoping to see a candle in this box! They feel so fall and I am ready to enjoy their warmth and glow in the upcoming chilly nights. This one is scented with a lovely rose fragrance that does feel a little summer, but since we are technically between seasons, it works for me. If you aren't a rose fan, I am not sure you are going to love this, but even if you end up regifting, the votive it arrived in is stunning enough to impress. It is textured with a bead-like pattern and coated in an iridescent finish that is especially lovely with the glow of the candle peeking through.

Here it is on my mantle.

Nuori Vital Repair Serum, 1 fl oz - Listed Value $60

FYI: Though this serum is advertised from CURATEUR as being "a serum from Nuori’s skincare line not available from the brand’s store", it seems to share an ingredient list with the Nuori Sun Repair Serum.

I don't know a whole lot about this brand, but the ingredient list is where I generally start for a skincare item, regardless of brand. This one is pretty solid and focused on calming skin, boosting it with antioxidants, and adding moisture. The big ingredient callouts are moisturizing hyaluronic acid, calming chamomile, soothing aloe, brightening vitamin C, and more. Visually, this is a white cream with a medium weight and quick absorption. After application, I really didn't feel much of anything which makes this a great choice for underneath makeup during the day.

Fekkai's Shea Butter Intense Oil, 1.7 fl oz - Retail Value $28

I can never seem to get enough oils. And this is a body + hair oil blend in a very pretty bottle, so I was helpless not to choose it. This is absolutely not an oil I would ever use on my face (hello coconut oil) but I loved its lightweight finish and moisturizing power on my legs and elbows. Because it has wonderful oils inside like jojoba, sunflower, shea, prickly pear, and castor, it gives a nice sheen and long-lasting nourishment to my skin, somehow without any grease or film. It also makes for a great lightweight hair oil, taming flyaways and adding shine in a snap. It has a very, very light scent that is nutty, floral, and sweet, with just a hint of coconut.

OR

Jillian Dempsey's Kohl Black Eyeliner - Retail Value $20

I mean I always have a hard time waxing poetic about a black eyeliner but this one is well pigmented, smooth, and buttery. The blending end makes a smokey eye in a snap!

Oma the Label Abuja Bracelet - Retail Value $29

FYI: This brand site states this bracelet is 6.5 inches with a 1-inch extender. Mine measured pretty close to that (see below). This piece is 18k gold plated brass.

Gold bracelets have always been an on-trend and stylish option because you can wear them solo or stack them for a custom layered look. This particular one has an interesting chain style that feels very unique. It has a good weight (not too heavy but heavy enough to feel substantial) and features a strong clasp and extender.

OR

Oma the Label Timepiece Bracelet - Retail Value $89

FYI: The bracelet site lists this bracelet measuring 7 inches. My tape measure suggests it's a little shorter than that. This piece is 18k gold plated brass.

I loved the slightly more industrial look of this watch band-inspired bracelet but I feel like the non-adjustable size might be a make or break for some subscribers. It feels exactly like a nice quality watch band: heavy, sturdy, and easy to love.

My wrist is about 6 inches at the smallest point but closer to 6.5 inches where I like my bracelets to sit. I found this bracelet pretty comfortable!

And here is a shot with my tape measure. I hope it helps you decide if your choice is based on bracelet length!

Verdict

This quarter's CURATEUR felt like it landed better than the Summer box, at least for me. I actually quite liked the poncho (who am I?) and thought the bracelets were both great choices and on-trend for this season. I also loved the candle and its rose scent, as well as the oil and the serum. It was nice to not see a scarf in sight, especially as those are such easy "fall box" items that I don't often use. This is always one of those boxes that people are either going to love immediately or maybe have less exciting feelings over, but for me, this felt like a win. If you are a new subscriber who likes the vibe of this box but is on the fence with what is a higher subscription price tag, use our code below to get $25 off your first box and see if this fashion curation is a good fit for you. I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

Does anyone know what the surprise/bonus item is?Curatuer is very hit or miss for my tastes. But I’ve never had a shipping or billing problem. I only pounce when there’s a great discount LIKE the $40 off now. The hair oil and bracelet most interesting to me. But since I’m pregnant and it’s getting warmer, I will make use of the poncho. Thank you Megan for measuring the bracelets! I really want the timepiece bracelet, so I’m choosing that one but the other may fit nicer–LOL. I won’t be pregnant forever. Love your reviews!

It seems like they changed their game a bit. I’m wondering when the extra gift will be offered. They didn’t mark down the summer box either. (Not like the previous ones..I think $30 off was the top discount.)

An acrylic poncho? Seriously? I know RZ can do better. How about curating some decent quality into this $100 box.

I love the poncho and the bracelets. I´m just waiting for a gift with purchase, I´d like to get something else.

Just to note I did read on the Curateur website that the gold bracelet that looks like a watch band is actually adjustable! You just need to take it to a jewelry/ watch place.

FYI – you can also order a tool set to do this yourself. It’s just a little stand to hold it, a small rubber mallet, and a thingie to push the peg out… if you look at the second photo of the bracelet on the plain background, you’ll see little round pegs on the three links on the upper right. Just hammer out the pegs, remove the links, and reinsert a peg to put it back together. It only takes a minute and the kit is only about $6.

Megan, I like the lipstick, I think it is a fun pop of color. I wear lipstick like that sometimes too. You do you.

This box is tempting to me. That poncho is super cute and I love both the bracelet options. Going to be a hard decision between this and the Fall FabFitFun box.

Ummm…yeah, so Megan looks good in that poncho, as good as anyone can look in it, but to me it looks like a rag – no structure at all, just this floppy, cheap rag looking thing, I absolutely don’t get it. There was a sweater a couple of years back from FFF that everyone jumped on for looking like a rag but this is far worse, IMHO. At least that sweater had some structure and I still throw it on to walk my dog. But this thing? I wouldn’t even walk my dog in it – but of course, to each his/her own.

Agree. That poncho is hideous IMO. And does anyone really believe that Rachel Zoe would ever wear that thing? Ha.

Thanks, Megan, for modeling the poncho. It looks amazing on you!! It looked long on the tall models so I was hesitant since I am short but I really like how it looks with your black leggings without looking long. I may just go for this box after all.

Megan

thanks so much, Zo! I am not terribly tall (5’5) and I thought the length was pretty good.

I just signed up for the box after your review. I like the poncho on you and I think I will keep it in the office for when I get chilly. The candle is beautiful, I love gold so the bracelets work for me and Id like to try the Fekkai oil. With your coupon code it comes out to $20 an item and worth it.

Nice review, Megan! Nothing in this box jumps out as must have except the candle but it’s not a bad box at all. The jewelry pieces in this sub just aren’t my taste but these bracelet options are neutral and versatile.

And thanks for modeling the poncho – really helps to see it on a woman to get a better idea of how it wraps and hangs.

Megan

Thanks Maddie! I thought it looked a lot more structured on, so happy to help. 🙂

Amy in KC

The poncho looks great on you! I thought it was ugly in the spoiler pics, but it looks so much better on a real person. The candle also looks beautiful.

The jewelry from Curateur is never my taste.

Megan

Thanks Amy! I liked it better on too. Ponchos are just way too hard to imagine without a body in them.

Snow

Hey Megan, I think you accidentally listed the poncho for the candle. Nice review, though! I love how green your backyard is! I am hanging on to August with all my might…..hate seeing summer come to an end 😭

I think this is a pretty solid box, though slightly predictable. Always fun to see what each season brings with this subscription, so thank you for the thorough review ☺️

Megan

Hey Snow! Thanks for the catch! Agree with the predictability factor. But I always seem to look forward to this one somehow. Probably the jewelry. And the yard is so green! I am a summer girl so I am going to miss it a lot come this fall.
