CURATEUR Summer 2021 Review

My box arrived with a handy booklet full of info and gorgeous summer pictures.

Melinda Maria Star Lariat Necklace - Listed Value $120.00

This was easily the item I was the most excited about this season. Paperclip chain, celestial token, and a soft gold? I am sold. In terms of design, this is one of my favorites I have ever gotten in a box. It feels really unique and special, and the quality is quite nice too. I wear a lot of lariat style necklaces and even though I have been leaning towards smaller delicate necklaces lately this one still feels really great with my current styling. It isn't tiny by any means, but it doesn't feel big or "statement" either.

I absolutely love it.

Here is a shot with my trusty tape measure for size reference.

Rachel Zoe Capri Tote - Listed Value $105.00

This purse was the reverse of the necklace because it isn't my style at all. First, I should never be allowed to carry a cream purse because I am a walking disaster. Second, I have gotten to the point where I only carry crossbody bags and purses because between my dogs on leashes or shopping bags, I don't feel like I have extra hands to spare on my normal day trips out to town. I could see this working for someone who likes to carry handbags but for me, this just isn't functional. I can appreciate the very useful interior pouches and pockets and even the canvas finish (I think it could be waxed to protect it and keep it clean) but I don't love the Rachel Zoe label very much. I plan on regifting this to a friend who might find it more appealing than I do.

Super cute, just not exactly my style.

Walter Baker Cozumel Towel - Listed Value $110.00

FYI: Subscribers can choose between this item or a Walter Baker Tulum Caftan.

I am not one to normally care about fancy towels (especially not $100+ towels) but I have been sitting outside a lot with the dogs during the afternoon and between covering my backseat for them in the car and our picnics, it is nice to have larger blankets and towels on hand. This is much thinner than what the word 'towel' would suggest but it is still somewhat cushy and very minimally chic.

We were sitting on it which explains the wrinkles! You can see how Charlie wanted me to put it back down on the ground.

Onekind Golden State Nourishing Facial Oil, 1 fl oz - Retail Value $45.00

I am always down to try a new facial oil! As someone with dry skin, I regularly sleep in heavier oils like this one to wake up with soft and glowy skin. Nourishing is the perfect word for this oil. It contains loads of fatty oils like safflower, apricot, rosehip, sweet almond, jojoba, sea buckthorn, and carrot seed. It also has aloe and vitamin E, as well as essential oils like orange, ylang-ylang, patchouli, sage, basil, and rosemary. It has a stronger scent of herbs, flowers, and a little sweetness. This is probably going to be a better oil for drier skin because it is going to feel really heavy on oilier faces and some of the oils might cause some congestion depending on your skin. Either way, this sort of oil can also be used on cuticles and dry knees and elbows.

Marc Jacobs Beauty re(cover) Hydrating Coconut Lip Oil - Retail Value $29.00

My final item is a coconut-scented lip oil. It is a really good sort of coconut, sweet and natural and not sunscreen-like at all. It feels a lot more like a nourishing gloss than an oil, and certainly added hydration and a pretty glossy sheen to my lips. I ended up really liking this stuff and hope it can make more of an appearance this summer than any of my glosses in 2020.

Verdict: This quarter's CURATEUR was a little hit or miss for me and it might end up being that way for a lot of people depending on how they feel about the style of the items inside. My wins? That necklace, the facial oil, and the lip oil. These three items probably do end up being worth the cost of the box, but I think if I had been really into the purse or more excited by the towel/caftan it would have been closer to a home run. Items like purses always feel like a gamble for a high-value item because all of us have different preferences in terms of materials, straps, and shapes, and, frankly, this was a big miss for me. I do think depending on your feelings, this could be a great value, especially using our special link to save 25% off.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes, as of publication, this box is still available.

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

Oh I really loved the style of the necklace but I was horribly disappointed once it arrived. It is super cheap and nasty. Looks like like something a young girl would wear after winning it at a carnival. Why would she offer up utter crap like that??

Just got it and it was missing two items. I emailed customer service and am waiting for a response.

Has anyone received the Curateur box and had something missing? I’m missing the necklace from the summer box. Their customer service is great, but always seems to be an issue that I have to contact them about quality issues, now a missing item.

I used to love this subscription. The necklace is really cool. And the Marc Jacob’s summery lip oil is great. But the rest of this box is trash. 2 items can’t make it worth it. Especially when that bag is that cheap looking and badly designed. And ANOTHER Caftan! They end up looking frumpy on a lot of women. Although you could possibly belt it and create something. The towel looks thin and wrinkly. And they have 1 skincare item that should, and used to, really shine. Not this time, or last. Why heavy oil? Why not a water cream, sunscreen, bb gel cream, something Ladies use in the summer. This box is horrible. And I was charged after canceling months ago so I’m stuck with it. I honestly don’t know what to do with that bag. WHY with that logo? I can’t gift it and I don’t even want it! It’s not big enough to be a beach/pool bag, which I would’ve been able to use. This is a stupid size/style choice for summer. I would’ve thought Crossbody, shoulder or beach tote. Ugh
If I curated this box… Cute Romper with the caftan print in 4 sizes sizes xsm-sm, m-lg, xl-xxl, xx3-4, Faux leather Wrap belt/ Cute belt?, same necklace, same lip oil, straw beach/pool bag.
I don’t know why none of these companies have tried a romper or jumper. I think they would be so popular. Hello subscription box companies are you listening??? If it’s been done before… We don’t want it!!!! And we don’t want much skincare and beauty in our LIFESTYLE and Fashion boxes. Talking to you too Causebox/Alltrue.

Not a big fan of this box but just wanted to say that your haircut is gorgeous, Megan. Looks great on you.

Mary Z

Now they are saying they’re almost sold out and hurry up get one for 25$ off!
Do we believe it???

Reply ButtonReply

C02

Nope. Now they have gift with summer purchase….Kade Spade insulated cooler.

Reply ButtonReply

Molly

Yep. Which you receive if you cancel and create a new email to sign back up. Their loyal customers get charged $100. No gift. No discount. So a year of seasonal boxes… $400 versus $200 if you wait until mid season. HUGE difference. Why would anyone stay subscribed??

D

How cheap does this usually get towards the end of the season? I might buy this for like $40…

Reply ButtonReply

Missy Roth

It’s around that. I paid $54.11 after tax and such. I always cancel and wait til end of season when they send a discount for wanting me back.

Reply ButtonReply

Ashleigh

Combine that with the unmentionable R discount of usually $15, and you’re down to $35. That’s where I got in for spring.

Ashleigh

There was a $50 off spring. Just google spring curateur 50 off. It just wasn’t advertised here. That would probably be my buy point for this box also.

Mary Z

I did not see that they had 50$ off the spring box. I think 40$ was the biggest discount for spring, unless I am missing something.

C02

Does the celestial pendant clip off the necklace? Melinda Maria’s similar necklaces (20″ St. Christopher and St. Mary) have this feature. Not a fan of moon/stars jewelry. I would get this box if it does. Not a fan of the gauze “towel” that will look like a rag in no time or the cheap looking bag. The caftan (robe) at least is polyester rather than viscose but who wears these in public? Seriously.

Reply ButtonReply

Mel

Didn’t Mrs. Roper from “Three’s Company” wear these along with Rhoda from the Mary Tyler Moore show? LOL

Reply ButtonReply

Jean

This isn’t the most exciting box but I’m liking it more and more. The necklace is definitely the piece I’m most looking forward to, and the towel and lip gloss will definitely be used an enjoyed. I wish they had not included another facial oil (and a heavier one at that) in the Summer Box – surely some other type of skincare – a luxe sunscreen, a facial mist – would have been more appropriate to the season? The bag is actually ok for me, but all the pictures I’ve seen make it look so wrinkly. I’d probably try to steam it so it looks a little more crisp and polished.

Julie

I think I may jump on this if it makes it to 40 or 50 off. I really like the necklace and, believe it or not, the caftan thing. That bag is ugh, though.

Reply ButtonReply

Deb

One of my least favorite boxes so far. This one really missed the mark for me.

Reply ButtonReply

Michelle

Megan, I love your hair! The necklace is really pretty I think. Going to add it to my followed listings! Lol

Reply ButtonReply

Snow

Right? The first thing I noticed was Megan’s hair! Love it! 💕

Definitely like (love) the necklace. The bag is super duper boring. A heavy facial oil during the summer just seems wrong and I need color on my lips!!!

Reply ButtonReply

Carol

This sub isn’t really my style, but I like that necklace a lot!

Reply ButtonReply

Jane

The necklace reminds me too much of the P & G logo.

Reply ButtonReply

Traci Lehnert

Haha, my dad retired from Proctor and Gamble and now that you mention it it does! I still kinda like it though.

Reply ButtonReply

Anna

This box is so predictable, every quarter a bag, jewelry, etc…so disappointing.

Reply ButtonReply

Alexa

The bag is the reason I’m not getting this box. It’s so impractical and looks cheap. Even the big beach tote a few summers ago that was made out of paper straw was at least functional. If this box had the Caftan AND the Towel and no bag I might have purchased it.

Reply ButtonReply

Molly

I agree. I would love the caftan and towel instead of the bag. If it were a big beach/pool bag with longer handles… and please stop with the name on the bag. Not impressed. I was charged and it shipped after I sent an email but before they got back to me. Pretty convenient.

Megan I love your shoes!!!

Thanks! They are my first Tevas. The colorway was called “90s multi” which i couldn’t resist!

Reply ButtonReply

Alice

Megan, I live in Teva waterproof hikers, and I have several pair of their leather boots. They last forever, are so comfortable.

Stephanie

That towel is thin! I think a piece of paper is thicker.

Reply ButtonReply

Laura P.

It looks like it’s a Turkish towel? Those are thin and dry really quickly. It’s the only item I’d like from this box.

Reply ButtonReply

Jody

Megan I thought of you when I saw this handbag. It made me think you (could) would paint something lovely on it. I would not use it unless some art work went on it.
I am sad to see the necklace so small. I thought it was going to be longer and silver. Bummer.
Always up for anything coconut!

Reply ButtonReply

Megan K.

Ummmm painting it is SUCH an amazing idea!!! Maybe I will hang on to it for now. I have a bunch of new acrylics that would be perfect. Even a messy splatter treatment could be incredibly cool.

Reply ButtonReply

Cynthia

If you decide to paint it, please post pictures of your finished bag. I’m sure it would look awesome!

Lauren L

I hope they offer another $25 mini (welcome? intro?) box this season 🤞🏽

Reply ButtonReply

Jennifer

That last welcome one was so nice! I wish I’d bought two (although then I would have had two subs to cancel, so maybe not…) Initially I got the purse because I wanted to paint it with either a starry night effect, some sunflowers, or some other design depending on what outfit I ended up wanting to pair it with – but my sister talked me into leaving it white for now since it will match a fancy dress I have. I’ll wait to paint it until it inevitably gets dirty. She wanted one too! And the cuff and hair cream were nice as well.

Nothing in this box besides perhaps the face oil and necklace really interested me, though. The minimal black/white stripe look isn’t my style.
