CBD seems to be everywhere.

You'll find it in everything from beauty products to sleep aids, in the form of tinctures, oils, salves, balms, capsules and gummies. This powerful, popular herbal ingredient can also be found in cocktails, sodas and snacks — but what's all the fuss about?

Thomas Arters

Prospect Farms, a seed-to-store provider of all-natural, organically grown, premium CBD wellness products for people and pets, is here to be your guide to the CBD universe.

"Transparency and wellness aren’t just words. They are a lifestyle. An ideology. We live it everyday," Thomas Arters co-founder of Prospect Farms recently told My Subscription Addiction.

Here's what you should know before selecting your next CBD product.

What is CBD?

"CBD" is an actually an acronym for Cannabidiol, a non-intoxicating, and naturally occurring compound most commonly found in Cannabis Sativa L. (which is also known as Hemp).

CBD is one of more than a hundred documented cannabinoids and is carefully extracted from the resin of the Hemp flower.

According to a report from the World Health Organization, “In humans, CBD exhibits no effects indicative of any abuse or dependence potential ... To date, there is no evidence of public health related problems associated with the use of pure CBD ... CBD is generally well-tolerated with a good safety profile” which is important when considering how to implement CBD products into your lifestyle.

Wondering why it seems to be in everything?

"Following the 2018 Farm Bill which legalized the cultivation of hemp, the formerly dormant industry has seen a global rebirth supporting new brands and products containing CBD," Arters explained.

What is CBD used for?

CBD can be used in a number of forms, from a dropper of oil in your coffee to promote a sense of calm as your day begins to massaging a balm onto your skin to relieve aching muscles.

Some studies show that CBD may relieve pain by affecting receptors of the endocannabinoid system, which can help regulate pain, mood, and memory, in addition to many other physiological and cognitive functions.

And we're still learning more about all the possibilities of CBD. "While encouraging, there is a great deal of research that awaits the industry to better understand both the considerations for treatment as well as any limitations that may exist with the use of CBD," Arters told us.

How do I know what CBD is best for me?

With so many products on the market, selecting one best suited for your needs can be a daunting task.

"With thousands of products and brands to choose from, it is very easy to be confused and that’s okay. We are just beginning to educate ourselves around what products are more beneficial than others," Arters explained.

Prospect Farms prides itself on using high-quality ingredients in all of their full spectrum products (which are commonly considered more effective than products that are derived from CBD isolate).

"We consider a quality CBD product to contain full spectrum extract with its introduction of CBD to the formulation. Full spectrum means that an oil or product contains all the naturally occurring cannabinoids and terpenes and is synonymous with the 'entourage effect' – which refers to the increased effectiveness of these products due to the different components working synergistically."

What should I be looking for when shopping for CBD products?

When looking for a CBD product, one of the most important things to consider is the quality of ingredients used.

"CBD is just one ingredient that makes up a small yet very powerful portion of the product. The other 95% matters too," Arters said. "At Prospect Farms, we work with the most effective, natural, and complementary ingredients with wellness in mind. From the off-the-chart polyphenol count of our Ultra Premium Olive Oil which contributes a great deal of antioxidants to the additional, rich oleic and linoleic measures of our grapeseed and avocado oils, we carefully consider and select every ingredient that goes into our products."

Another tip? Be on the lookout for a thoughtful supply chain and quality control measures.

"Being seed-to-store means everything happens right here on our farm in Prospect, Maine. We genetically select the hemp seeds, germinate, organically grow, harvest, dry, extract, formulate, bottle, package and ship fresh to our customers directly from our farm in Prospect, Maine. Few brands can say that," Arters explained.

Built on a 400-year-old farm in Prospect, Maine, Prospect Farms' dedication to providing their customers with high-quality CBD products began long before their 2018 launch.

"We see ourselves as the present stewards of this farm land, and are dedicated to preserving this legacy as we are to creating products that help our people and our pets live well, naturally. This isn’t just a hobby for us. This is our passion," the website reads.
