Cocotique “All About the Pretty” March 2021 Review

The back of the Cocotique info card describes all the products included in this month’s box. It also provides information on where to purchase the products online and exclusive discount codes where available.

Bonus Item: Canvas Tote

The box comes with a bonus reusable tote bag each month. I love this element! I think it is commendable when brands promote low-waste options. I love the text, "Be a blessing to someone today," printed on the front of the bag.

LOTTABODY Elongate Me Curl Stretcher, 10.1 fl oz - Full Size! Retail Value $4.99

I've received LottaBody's Elongate Me Curl Stretcher from Cocotique before, and it has become one of my absolute favorite products for nourishing my curls and reducing frizz and shrinkage. This product is formulated with nourishing ingredients, like enriched milk protein and honey, that work together to control frizz, lock in moisture, and prevent shrinkage. Everyone in my family with curly or 4C hair loves this product. I apply the curl stretcher after washing and conditioning, and I've noticed a substantial reduction in frizz, and once dry my hair retains much more length. I am super pumped to have received this product again, and I do and will continue to purchase it on my own.

KISS COLORS & CARE Edge Fixer Glued,  30 ml - Travel Size, Retail Value $6.99

OMG! I'm so excited to receive the Kiss Colors & Care Edge Fixer Glued in Pineapple from their new collaboration with rapper Saweetie. Let's send that babe some positive thoughts. She was lookin' a little desperate on that elevator -- I hope all is well with her. BUT what I can say is that this edge gel is amazing. It's a water-based pomade with a non-greasy and non-oily formula, infused with biotin B7. So, not only will it slick back your edges, tame your baby hairs, and help you rock that sleek high ponytail, but it's also going to strengthen your edges and promote growth! The scent is like a delicious pineapple candy -- I love, love, love it. After application, the gel laid my edges beautifully and held them all day, with no frizz. If you're looking for a good water-based edge gel, you may want to give this a try. In my opinion, you will not be disappointed.

SEKKISEI Emulsion Enriched, 20 ml - Estimated Value $7.14 (Buy a full-size 140 ml for $50.00 here)

I always feel like a Hollywood starlet when I add an emulsion step to my skincare routine, like, "Who even is she?" I'm thrilled to have received this Sekkisei Emulsion Enriched, and I'm very happy with the size of this sample as well. This brightening emulsion treats dullness, prevents dark spots, and increases suppleness, leaving behind hydrated, silky smooth, glowing skin. Formulated with an amazing blend of herbal ingredients, including fagus extract, for anti-aging and firming; evening primrose extract, as an anti-inflammatory; rose myrtle extract; elecampane extract and coix seed extract, for brightening; angelica extract and melothria extract, for hydrating and moisturizing -- do you feel fancy yet? After trying this emulsion, I have to add this awesome J-beauty product to my skincare repertoire. It has definitely kept my skin moisturized, and my face feels smoother and looks brighter. The scent is a very light, pleasant herbal scent that reminds me of a spa experience and is enjoyable but not intrusive.

PALMER’S Coconut Oil Formula Coconut Oil Body Lotion, 50 ml - Estimated Value $1.19 (Buy a full-size 250 ml for $5.95 here)

I really enjoy the Palmer's brand. All their products are formulated with ethically and sustainably sourced ingredients. The quality is there, and everything is reasonably priced. I've received the Palmer's Coconut Oil Formula Coconut Oil Body Lotion in a past Cocotique box, and it's still just as enjoyable now as it was then. The scent is absolutely divine -- it's like diving into a creamy piña colada. Formulated with ingredients like Vitamin E oil, sweet almond oil, coconut oil, and monoï oil, this body lotion has a luxurious, rich texture, and leaves my skin feeling wonderfully hydrated. There's no greasy residue, and the product absorbs quickly into my skin, locking in moisture and leaving behind just a hint of the delicious tropic scent.

RUBY KISS RK Stix O' Miracle Lip Balm Cocoa Butter, 0.14 oz - Full Size! Retail Value $2.99

I am a lip balm hoarder -- I honestly may have a legitimate problem, but that's a discussion for a different day. Let's talk about this Ruby Kiss RK Stix O' Miracle Lip Balm Cocoa Butter. First, I love the size -- it's a super chunky lip balm, not like those thin little chapsticks that I know I have a hundred of but can never seem to find. Secondly, the scent is a delicious cocoa butter scent that is deliciously creamy and nutty at the same time. The product itself has a smooth, creamy texture that is a mix between chapstick and vaseline. There's no greasy residue or stickiness. It absorbs quickly and leaves behind refreshed moisturized lips. Infused with cocoa butter, shea butter, aloe vera, vitamin E, almond oil, and peppermint oil, this lip balm is perfect for hydrating and conditioning my dry, cracked "behind-the-mask" lips.

DESIGN ESSENTIALS Almond & Avocado Moisture Primer Pre-Styling Whip, 12 oz - Full Size! Retail Value $12.99

Design Essentials Almond & Avocado Moisture Primer Pre-Styling Whip is an ultra-light layer of nourishment for those of us with extremely dry hair. With a whip-like texture, this moisturizing cream works as a primer, coating your hair in a rich layer of moisture before styling. I love how light this product is. It doesn't weigh down my curls, smells delicious, and it makes my hair feel hydrated and nourished, in spite of a past hair coloring "incident." With key ingredients like almond and avocado, this product is ideal for nourishing and strengthening hair, preventing breakage, and providing intense moisture, leaving behind super shiny and healthy-looking hair.

TWISTED SISTA Amazing Dream Curls Cream Gel, 12 oz - Full Size! Retail Value $8.99

This Twisted Sista Amazing Dream Curls Cream Gel has a delicious fruity scent and uses the amazing combo of almond, coconut, and avocado oils to elongate curls, reduce frizz, and provide a strong styling hold. I received this in a past Cocotique box and gifted it to my goddaughter, who had absolutely wonderful results. This product is truly a "dream." It holds all her curls in place off her face and there is no sticky or crunchy texture or flaky residue left behind at the end of the day. It's the perfect combination of crunch-less hold and frizz reduction that helps create any beautiful curly hairstyle with a bounce.

HYPE 7-Free Nail Polish in Mint, 0.30 fl oz - Full Size! Retail Value $9.99

This Hype 7-Free Nail Polish in Mint is a plant-based polish that is free of the seven most common toxic chemicals used in standard nail polish. Instead, this bold plant-powered nail enamel is made with corn, potatoes, and yuca. I love the idea of this. I'm always thinking of how the toxins in nail polish could be seeping through my nails, into my body, and slowly killing me. That could be because I've watched too many documentaries -- or it could be true. I love the wide brush applicator and the color. The enamel itself is a touch more watery than, say, a standard polish, and it does take two or three coats to be completely opaque -- but if the choices are "be poisoned by toxic chemicals" or "apply another coat," I think I'll just apply another coat.

RUBY KISS RK Jellicious Lip Gloss in Cotton Candy, 0.5  fl oz - Full Size! Retail Value $1.99

This Ruby Kiss RK Jellicious Lip Gloss in Cotton Candy has a glossy pink tint that makes your lips shine with just a hint of a pinkish flush. The gloss applies smoothly and the indent in the applicator is the perfect shape for easy application. This iconic tube packaging is like a blast back to the 2000s and takes me straight back to high school, making me feel like I'm in Lil Mama's My Lip Gloss is Poppin' video. With a lightweight jelly-like texture, this gloss is infused with mango butter and acai berries to promote soft and healthy lips. The scent is a little bit too "Victoria's Secret's Lovespell" sweet for me, so if that was your jam, you will absolutely love the smell of this gloss.

RUBY KISSES RK 24hr Eye Definer in Glitter Black,  0.31 g - Full Size! Retail Value $2.99

Okay, I never thought I would be super pumped about a black eyeliner, but this Ruby Kisses RK 24hr Eye Definer in Glitter Black has a dusting of shimmery glitter throughout -- and I love it. The liner is a super soft pencil that glides on smoothly and is waterproof and smudge-proof. The formula is creamy, rich, and super comfortable for all-day wear. I really enjoy how the bit of shine from the sparkles makes my eyes POP.

The Verdict: I really enjoyed this month's Cocotique box. There was a great mix of products from a lot of awesome brands. LottaBody's curl stretcher is an amazing product that I was so happy to receive again. The brightening emulsion is from an awesome J-beauty brand that I was very excited to be able to try, and it has visibly smoothed and brightened my skin in just a few days. Ruby Kisses' cocoa butter lip balm and Jellicious lip gloss are a perfect lip nourishing combo and complement each other well in this curation. Twisted Sista's curl gel and Divine Essential's moisturizing primer are another great combo from this box. When used together, they leave my hair feeling hydrated and luscious, while holding its style. The Edge Fixer Glued in Pineapple smells absolutely delicious and it is water-based, making it perfect for laying my edges without the worry of breaking out along my hairline. Ruby Kisses' 24Hr Eye Definer is an easy-to-apply, comfortable-to-wear, soft pencil, and I love the surprise dusting of glitter. Hype's toxic-free nail enamel is an absolutely beautiful color -- I love the mint -- and I'm happy to have something that is also super-safe to use. Lastly, the Palmer's coconut oil body lotion, another repeat, but a wonderful staple that I've enjoyed in the past and will enjoy again. With a retail value of $60.25 on a $25 box, you get a large variety of products and your money's worth. I was definitely impressed with this box!

To Wrap Up:

Can I get this box if I sign up today? No, you'll likely receive the April box, but one-time boxes are usually available in the Cocotique shop for $25.

I was actually excited to see a Cocotique review on here but was very disappointed in your “commentary” on Saweetie.

“Let’s send that babe some positive thoughts. She was lookin’ a little desperate on that elevator — I hope all is well with her” is so shady and not at all positive and not at all a contribution to what this post should’ve been about. I get that this is probably just your tone/writing style but that kind of incident, whether it’s actually classified as domestic violence or not – is not and should not be joke fodder.

You could’ve ended with the positive thoughts bit but the rest was going too far. I’m not commenting as any kind of Saweetie fan, but as an MSA reader & subscriber for YEARS, and also as a Black woman who is tired of seeing incidents like this become a joke – especially when they involve Black women.

I like this box because it’s about supporting Black women and I got excited about your review but that sentence left a really bad taste in my mouth. I’m really disappointed that this was not edited out by either yourself or the editors of this blog.
