BarkBox is a reader-favorite monthly subscription box for dogs.

BarkBox customizes your box to your dog’s size. For reference, this review is for the medium size, which is recommended for dogs 20-50 lbs. Our beloved rescue dog, Rufus, is around 40 lbs. and is 12 years old. He can be a bit picky about toys but usually loves treats.

If you have a younger pup or just one who needs toys of the rough and tumble variety, I highly recommend trying the Super Chewer subscription (read our reviews to learn more!)

My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

March 2021 BarkBox "The Great Barkini's Magnificent Magic Box" Review

The March box included 2 toys, 2 bags of treats, and a chew - this is close to what you can expect with your monthly subscription, though it does vary for everyone once in a while.

Sometimes, these items are marked as 'Sold Out' on the BarkBox app - but they have a little 'As Seen In BarkBox' section of the BarkShop where you can grab items featured in monthly themes.

Bark Mega Moo Jerky Bites, 3 oz.

Rufus is always obsessed with these jerky bites. He will eat one piece in seconds and then sniff and scratch at the bag so much that I'm almost worried he is going to eat through the bag. This jerky is a beef lung recipe which sounds disgusting but the bag says this is the filet mignon for doggies. These are made with 70% beef lung that also happens to be super nutritious, and each piece is made without any grains. I love that these are healthy, filling, and so good for Rufus!

Bark Oinky Jerky Bars, 3 oz.

These jerky bars are made with real bacon, a favorite among everyone in my house, including Rufus. This jerky is super chewy so really easy for Rufus to eat quickly. It is also made with 50% fresh pork. Another favorite for Rufus that he can't seem to get enough of. I love taking these with us on a walk or using them to convince him to go outside on a rainy day.

The Pet Gourmet Chew Stick in Pumpkin & Honey, 1.4 oz.

This is a large chew that is made in small batches with pumpkin and honey. It is also grain-free which is a big plus! Since these are on the large side you always have the option of breaking pieces off for your dog to enjoy bit by bit. Rufus normally doesn't like these chew sticks so I broke half of it off for him and left it near his bed, hoping that he would graze and go back to it throughout the day. All afternoon he ignored it, but once my daughter got up from her nap she brought the half over to him and he quickly ate it all. I was shocked! So lesson learned, always have my kids give him the treats he normally doesn't take from me. I have found that my parents' dogs really love these so even if Rufus won't always eat them, we are happy to share!

Hat Hare

This toy has a squeaker and it crinkles! The rabbit can come out of the hat like a true magician. My kids are obsessed with the movie Frosty so they thought it was pretty cool that we now have a magician hat and rabbit! I really love that the tag recommends putting a treat in the hat before the bunny to see if your doggie can get it out. Rufus isn't a huge fan of toys, but he did get excited when we put a treat in the hat so that did the trick to get him to play. Though for now, my kids can be found playing with this fun set instead.

A Dove And Beyond

The handkerchief part of this toy has crazy crinkle in it and boy is it loud! Even if I just move it with my foot it gets everyone's attention. Rufus actually seems to be rather scared or irritated by this toy and doesn't love when we crinkle it. The dove is so cute though, popping out and makes a fun squeak. My parent's new puppy really enjoys toys like this so we might be passing it along to her since Rufus seems a little scared of how loud this one can be. Since Rufus is a rescue dog, we are used to him being sensitive to louder sounds and certain movements so it's sometimes easier to just eliminate something that seems to put him on edge rather than keep it around hoping he will play with it.

Verdict: BarkBox was super magical this month. The toys were so cute, as always. They both had crazy crinkles in them, so we will keep the hat but pass the dove along to my parent's dog Pixie. Rufus and my kids are loving the magician hat though and we even found that Rufus will play with it if we put a treat in the hat. So fun! The treats again were a huge winner. I love that the treats come in a resealable bag so we can take them with us on walks and they stay fresh longer. As Rufus gets older, we are focused more and more on making sure that he has healthy food and treats. This box always brings the fun and healthy items that I feel confident giving to Rufus. Plus, he gets a lot of extra love from everyone on box arrival day, which I know he appreciates!

I received a repeat from March 2020, the Australian theme. These are super cute, so I’m a bit bummed..
